Sunrise Restaurant is kind of like the hot food section of a Ranch 99 Market or Marina Foods... but without the attached Chinese supermarket. And that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's pretty much cafeteria-style (at lunch time anyway). You tell the server what you want, pay at the cashier, and then seat yourself. There's ample seating indoors, with maybe 12 tables that seat 2 or 4 each. Each table has a yellow tablecloth and glass top. Though the building shows its age, the tables are nice (and clean). There's a couple small patio tables outside as well.Decent food, reasonable prices, big portions. My 3-item combo ($6 after tax) was way more than I could eat. It completely filled the 7"x7" styro to-go box. (If you order for "here" instead, you get a styro plate on a red plastic tray.) The 2-item combo ($5.50 after tax) might have been a smarter choice. The lunch combos come with your choice of chow mein, fried rice, white rice, or brown rice. I went with chow mein, which was flavorful enough but lacked any sort of meat. (Most places put beef or barbecue pork or tiny shrimp in their chow mein.)Maybe I'm totally whitewashed, but I really enjoyed the sesame chicken. Bite-size pieces of lightly battered fried chicken, with a sweet glaze and topped with sesame seeds. Like the orange chicken from Panda Express, but a little better. I know, I disgrace my heritage. :[ It could be worse, I came looking for Chef Chens... which sounds ominously like Mr. Chau's.I also got the beef stew with white radish (daikon) and the soy sauce chicken. Not bad. The beef was really tender. Both the server and the cashier were friendly.A banner hanging outside listed some specials:+ free egg roll with orders over $30+ 10% off orders over $100+ free delivery (!) with orders over $15It's a decent lunch choice for businesspeople in the area, because it is super quick and cheap for the amount of food that you get. Pretty limited vegetarian options though.

So Tetsu N. wanted to have Chinese for lunch, but I had to be in a meeting after lunch, so wanted to be close by. After checking around places near my office, the only Chinese restaurant that we hadn't gone to before was Sunrise. Ed H and Ron L also joined us on this one.At the restaurant, Ron L and I remarked that the place has been there forever, and we remember it being there at least 10 years ago.And it is amazing to me that this place still exists. The last time I was there, it was in 2001, and I was given a strong reminder why I haven't returned. Now, I am the first to say that you have to go into a restaurant knowing what to expect. I know this is a "pick 3 times" kind of place, so I am not expecting quality food. In fact, I came in with the assumption that it is a Chinese restaurant that caters towards non-Chinese people. But after eating the food here, I think it is a Chinese restaurant that caters towards non-humans.It's one of those pick 3 items type of place, and it also comes with soup. Definitely stay away from the soup. We weren't sure what the soup was, but it was flavorless and looked gross. It was this piss color liquid with bits of unknown stuff floating in it. Our guesses were that it was dishwater or toilet water. The food wasn't much better. Ed H, Ron L, and myself opted for brown rice. Big mistake... the rice is cooked with not enough water, and the consistency of the rice was not sticky, was not flaky. I don't really know how to describe it. The food wasn't all that much better. In retrospect, after Tetsu N. told us that he didn't think it was terrible, and when we noticed that he opted for chow-mien versus the rice, maybe we should have just had a plate of fried noodles instead. If you ever find yourself in this plaza and want some good food, go across to Better Bento...

My wife and I had dinner there last night. We rolled in half expecting it to be closed. At 8:00 on a Friday night, not a soul in there besides the staff, who were very friendly but did not speak much English. The building was definitely showing it's age and it was freezing in there. We ordered the Hot & Sour soup, a favorite and were immediately disappointed. Vinegar must've been their main ingredient. Very bland beyond it. The fried rice was ok, the Kung Pao chicken and the Mu Shu Pork also were on the bland side. My wife felt the Fried Rice was the best thing they had and that's not saying much. I won't be going there again.

i just ordered take out from sunrise. i got a flier or my door and decided to give it a try. free delivery with 18 dollar order. 1.) beef hong kong style pan fried noodles - deep fried noodles with a gravy sauce with sliced beef, some veggies, etc... decent, but the sauce needed some black pepper or black bean sauce to give it a little more flavor - 7.952.) sesame chicken - your standard americanized battered and fried chicken bits with sweet sauce. what I expected - 7.953.) iron skillet beef - this is typically one of my favorite dishes when ordered in the restaurant. I was skeptical of how it would turn out when delivered and not actually served on a hot iron skillet. my suspicions were confirmed. The beef came pale and almost looked like chicken. i should have ordered the black pepper beef or beef with string beans instead... but I couldn't resist the potential of the iron skillet. - 7.95overall I was disappointed. they did deliver in 30 minutes as promised. the prices were a bit high... the quality was not good enough to warrant the jacked up prices. my other complaint was that the to go boxes were a bit smaller than the usual ones. they were the styrafoam ones, but they weren't as deep as the ones I am used to. the portions still weren't bad, but maybe the shape/size of the container made me feel like I was being cheated. i may give them another try because i am so lazy and they deliver... but I'll have lowered expectations.
