Similan Thai Cuisine

After shopping at Draegers, we were looking for a very local place to eat, and Yelp came through again with this gem. It's located between a Chinese place and an Indian place, so an Asian restaurant trifecta. There's a nice physical bar, but they only serve wine and beer. Pity. The menu was like a souvenir hardcover picture book, and each page had great images of the dishes. The mint spring rolls sounded great, so we ordered them, plus a pad see ew for The Wife, and a seafood hot plate (hold the calamari), that was served sizzling, just like fajitas. The rolls were tasty, not too minty. She likes the pad see ew very much, and noted that the Chinese broccoli made it more bitter than usual, but that was ok. My seafood hot plate was FABULOUS!! Pretty spicy, but enough to hide the flavor. The sauce was tangy and perfect, and the fish, shrimp, scallops and mussels were just the right quantities, along with red and green pepper slices and onion. Knowing I couldn't reheat this well, I was forced to finish it there. Oh well!For dessert, I had fried ice cream, which was Mexican standard but quite nice, while she had fried banana with ice cream, the perfect thing for her. I drank two glasses of pinot grigio at $13 per glass, nice pours. There were soooo many other dishes we wanted to try, so we'll be back. My new favorite Thai place in Danville! If only they had a full bar...

Order take out because the reviews were good,especially the Thai iced tea... it was really disappointing the Thai iced tea had a bad tea flavor like it was old or it was the last bit of what was left over. We couldn't drink it yuk! I'm not sure what's going on with the food we ordered last night? The pat thai was good but the pad see Eew was very greasy and had a fishy smell. I know we ordered it with prawns but it was so fishy we couldn't and was afraid to eat it! That's normally my favorite. And why no one mentioned on yelp that the yellow curry is super spicy... i love Thai food and never had a bad experience like that.

We always get take out from Similan and the folks are always friendly. Their thai ice tea is also really good. If you get a chance to eat there the food comes out piping hot and is so delicious! Highly recommend for take out and eat in.

It has been awhile since our last visit to Similan Thai Cuisine. I forgot how much we liked the decor. Today, we ordered what felt like the entire restaurant. We were feeling adventurous and asked our wonderful server, Apple, to help order authentic dishes that are cooked Thai style and not Thai-American style. Oh boy! Get ready for your tastebuds to be awakened by the flavors. We were very happy with our orders, and were so glad to find out that Similan is a family owned and run restaurant. They really know how to cook Thai food because they lived in Thailand before moving out here. Everything was so amazing. We can't wait to return and try something new!

I've never had a bad meal here, it is outstanding! Their noodle soups are usually what I go for, specifically their Yen Ta Fo & Tom Yum Noodle soup. Just incredible! Also get the soft shell crab appetizer, SO delicious!

I have ordered takeout 3 times. The first time they forgot utensils and straws for the thai tea. Second time everything was great. Third time the bbq chicken was soo dry and hard. Lunch combo is a great deal and worth it! You get a ton of food, 2 items, salad, soup and rice. The thai iced tea is 10/10Thai bbq chicken was perfectly juicy and floral the 2 out of the 3 times. 10/10 I ordered it every time. Yellow thai curry perfectly spicy and great balance of meat veggies and curry 10/10The cashew nut chicken- they fry the chicken and toss in the veggies. I would like to see more cashews and chicken 8/10Chicken satay- was a bit on the dry side.5/10Bbq pork- tasted juicy and flavorful but I found the portion size to be small 8/10Sticky rice- this is my must have at any thai restaurant 10/10Overall this has been a great thai restaurant. I look forward to my next visit and hope the problems I had were only a time issue.

I tried all the Thai places in the surrounding 10 miles, and I have my favorites. Using GrubHub, I chose Similan because I hadn't tried it before, and I just needed a Thai food fix.* Wow* 100% delicious I ordered some of my usual suspects:==============================1. Green Curry w/beef -- as good as I've ever had it [$14.95, 5.0 stars]2. Ginger Eggplant w/chicken & shrimp [$16.95, 4.5 stars] -- wonderful.3. Rice [$2.50, n/a] -- I always like when a place includes rice with each dish, but alas, it's a separate charge. Despite, it was as expected -- good!* I'm intrigued to try many other things* I will go in to eat there soon!

The pumpkin curry is very creamy and tasty - needs more pumpkin as despite it coming in a half of a kabocha bowl, it didn't have enough kabocha chunks to split between two of us. You can't go wrong with the pad Thai - it's a standard and hard to err with this one. Lemon grass chicken was the one dish we would all skip - it needed to be more savory than sweet - and we could t taste the lemongrass as the sauce was quite thin and not flavorful. Service was excellent - water was refilled, we were greeted promptly and seated right away. Ordering was easy and our food came out quickly. We got there at 6:30 and the place really filled by 7 pm on a weeknight.

Inconsistent. Sometimes it's really good and other times just average. Just the other day, I ordered pad Thai with chicken. It came with very little, and very dried, pieces of chicken. With big chunks of tofu. The noodles were dry. It's close to my house which makes it convenient.

Such delicious food. Decided to have a late solo lunch. Decided on the lunch where I can choose two substantial items. This lunch also comes with a coconut chicken soup. That was light and creamy with shredded soft chicken and mushrooms.The big plate comes, and it has bbq pork with a sweet dipping sauce. Great portion of pork. My other dish was their yellow chicken curry. They simmer the curry for hours, and the chicken is falling apart.Also tge plate had a decent green salad and perfect rice.The service was attentive, and the food came out quickly.They have a sister restaurant Andaman Thai. Also a highly recommended restaurant.
