Very cute decor. The elderly couple was so sweet. Gave my son a cookie while we waited for take out. (Although, I wished he asked me before giving him anything because there was cookie drama later on. I digress.) I ordered the pad thai and pad see ew. These are my go-tos whenever I try a thai restaurant with a pretty common menu. Their pad thai was on the sweet side. I like mine more savory. It's served on a bed of shredded lettuce which I really disliked. I dont like lettuce with hot food!! The pad see ew was ok. I remember the noodles being thinner than usual and there was no chinese broccoli in it (what a bummer). I honestly was not super into it because I prefer lao-thai cuisine and this place seemed to lean more toward a sweet-thai style of food from the two dishes I tasted. I remember it cost about $40 for the two dishes. I recommend checking it out for the experience!

Delicious and wonderfully odd visuals. We did not have drinks, but all the food was excellent except the boring Pad Thai.

Is this business still open?. I've tried calling on various occasions. And drove up to see about ordering in person and it's dark...lights out.. not open despite hours posted here and google.

This place formerly would have been a 4-5 star, but the quality hand flavor have taken a sharp decline after ownership changed. I ordered some of my favorites and was deeply disappointed when the flavor was nowhere near close to what I knew and loved. The previous owners have since opened a spot in Alameda, so I guess I'll have to travel to get a taste again.

I love this place! Pat is so kind and attentive. The food is savory, and comforting. I crave the Barbarian soup on a weekly basis. The prices are incredible and the experience is unforgettable. Don't forget to bring cash!

I heard about this place from a friend, so we decided to try it out. When I entered the place, it felt a little bit like traveling through Narnia because the decorations inside were so different from the outside (the inside had a bamboo aesthetic). When we ordered, we asked if they had the Duck Curry because many other reviews mentioned it even though it wasn't on the menu. Since they were out, we ordered the following (for a total party size of 2):Fish Cake - This tasted good and was a little spicy (note: I generally don't eat spicy food). The sauce that came with it was spicy and sweet. The cabbage underneath the fish cake was probably just for looks because it was dry. Panang Curry - I liked this, though the beef was slightly tough (note: you can choose whatever meat you want). We were able to request that this dish be made Mild, though it still tasted a little spicy. The curry reminded me of gravy in terms of flavor and color. Jasmine Rice - You have to order this separately because no rice comes with the curry. Pad Thai - We decided to get this because of my low tolerance to spice. We chose pork for the meat, and this tasted good and freshly made. The noodles were on the thinner side, and they were really flavorful.Normally, one entree and one appetizer is enough to fill us, so we were surprised that we were able to finish everything. However, both of us were a little stuffed afterwards. Total price was $36.40 (before tip), so this was a really good value. It was cash only, but I think that might have been because the credit/debit machine wasn't working (they had a sign that I quickly skimmed). All in all I enjoyed this place. The food was good, and they had a lot of reusable dishware. There's a quaint charm to this place, and our server (who I'm guessing is also the owner) was very friendly.ECO NOTES (Dine-In)Dine-In Dishware: Reusable plates and bowlsNapkins: Single-use disposable paper napkinUtensils: Metal forkWater cups: Short-stem wine glass, though the default is a combination of Thai tea and water (as described by the server), which is interesting and also might be caffeinated. If you want just water, you'd likely have to specially request it.

I don't even want to write this review because it's a well kept secret right now. Food is AMAZING and cheap. Pat the waiter, the $3 surprise beer and after dinner fruity drinks make this place so so special. We have been going almost once a week and will be back tomorrow. CASH ONLY - but you only need like $40 - $50 for 2 people.

They only take cash and I walked in without any. The owner said I could drop off my payment later, which is something you just don't see every day! They really are a neighborhood hidden gem, in every way - from decor to service to food. Just downhome, delicious Thai food.

This is the best Thai food I've ever had. I love the atmosphere and it's walkable from my house. The best kept secret in oakland. I don't even want to write this review because I don't wanna share it with the outside world. Fifty stars if I could

Old Weang Ping is magical. I came across this place when I first moved to Oakland in 2011, and it quickly became a favorite. not only is the food great, the restaurant itself has great ambience and the owners are the nicest people. I've brought so many people to eat here through the years... family dinners, dates, lunch with friends. now I live within walking distance and bring my kid for mother daughter dates. she calls it "the calm restaurant". our favorite. I'm overdue for a visit, it's been a whole month!
