It was nice to stumble upon what appears to be the last Mr Chau's location unfortunately. But luckily this location is holding it down!Everything still tastes exactly like it did in the 90's. With the same decor too! Very Nostalgic!Huge portions & a lot more tastier than skimpy Panda Express! I never understood how Panda got so much more popular than Mr Chau's. Especially with his commercials being played on every TV station in the Bay Area.At $14 a box, my left overs were enough for lunch and dinner the next day!Workers are nice and quick with service. I will definitely come back again.

Yeah gonna have to unfortunately give Mr. Chau's a low score, which is regrettable because they are a Bay Area classic. Who remembers those vintage TV commercials? But anyway, I think this is the only Mr. Chau's left in San Jose, and after trying it recently, I think probably for good reason. The price is way too high! $14.25 for a combo plate is quite steep, especially with cheaper options like Panda Express, Orient Express, and even Ranch 99 being available. The food is also god awful. The sides - fried rice and chow mein - were both unacceptable. The fried rice was somehow super greasy yet incredibly bland, and the chow mein was starchy and yucky. Not recommended. The entrees were actually halfway decent. House Chicken was pretty bad, like a super starchy teriyaki chicken, but the boneless ribs had a nice, smoky flavor to them. Kind of like a cross between peking spareribs and American bbq ribs.Nevertheless, if you take into account the overall taste of Mr. Chau's as well as the price point and value, I would say this place is a bust. I'm probably never coming back here again. The service was meh. It's run by a Mexican family and they actually spoke to me in Spanish at first, which was fascinating. But it was fast and friendly. The ambiance of the restaurant is kinda nice if you like nostalgic retro 80s and 90s vibes (bright neon seats and tables, the bench style you used to see at Taco Bell or Subway). The location is pretty trash though off of McKee, and the parking lot is small and hard to get to.Enough talk.

I grew up eating Mr.Chau's at the Sunnyvale location and hadn't eaten it since I was a kid...until my man asked me for solid takeout recommendations. I suggested it out of nostalgia and found this as the last location in the area. We got 5 2-item plates (~$15/plate) which includes a main carb and 2 proteins. I got the honey chicken and boneless pork ribs with chow mein. The chow mein wasn't greasy, was pretty bouncy, and had good flavor. Honey chicken wasn't good or bad, but I couldn't really discern its sauce from the ribs plus the chicken was stringy/dry. The ribs had an unappetizing artifical smoke flavor to them that threw me off. Bummer because I remember they used to make the best lemon chicken and that wasn't available. I also noticed if you spoke Spanish, the servers gave you way more food than if you didn't since I observed servings of the lady before me and my boyfriend who was after me.This place definitely hit the spot as a kid, but I'm not so sure now. My boyfriend and his family also mentioned how it tastes more like Mexican Chinese food than the Chinese takeout they're used to!

The owner needs to update the menu and fix the soda machine. The worker doesn't give you any opinion to order a 1 or 2 item. They always ask you wash 3 items you want. She was nice but me as a customer I would like to pick less food then more.

Hidden little place in a small plaza off McKee rd. I was craving Chinese food and decided to check this place out from TikTok recommendations. Pretty decent portions compared to the other guys (Panda Express) the rice was decent more flavor than those guys, chow mein had like a burnt after taste to it but it wasn't too strong. Orange chicken wasn't hitting the same I felt like it needed a bit of salt or something pretty bland IMO Spicy chicken was cool tho I'd probably go back and grab a container of rice and that spicy chicken tbh Would I come back tho? Ehh if it was just me and nowhere else around me was open fuc* it The price is decent like 14$ for a plate of half and half with 2 entrees There was a line when I walked in but it was moving pretty quick. So that was cool too Might of just came on a bad day who knows, check it out tho might have better luck than I did :)

The food was good for what it was! This is your typical chinese fast food so there isn't much to expect. There weren't many options but they had the classic. We opted to do 2 two-item combos so we could try 4 different entrees and get both fried rice and chow mein. Everything tasted good like regular quick stop chinese food. Broccoli beef had almost not beef or sauce. Service was very fast and simple. It's a very casual place for a quick meal and the portions are huge!

We came here before our flight back to LAX from San Jose hoping to get some good Chinese food. I'm not sure why this has great reviews. It was not good. At all. The ladies working were nice.

Before we get to the good stuff, let's take it back in time & reminisce those nostalgic Mr. Chau commercials. Do ya'll recall a comical Asian cartoon character with the heavy accent and high voice saying, "Chow Down at Mee-sah Chau Chineee-ah Fass Foo"??? Haha!!Hands down - and to be honest, the obvious, famous & popular Chinese fast food across the country reigns supreme - however, if you want to go back in time for even just a quick meal that'll take you down memory lane, you won't regret hittin' this spot up! Forsure though, prices have sky-rocketed these past few years, but their 1-item & 2-item entrees have the BEST bang for your buck!! (and it comes with your choice of steamed white rice, fried rice, and/or chow mein) - and you can even opt-in to have it half/half to maximize your craving satisfaction! $11.00 including tax, I ordered a 1-item entree (Broccoli Beef with HELLA vegetables plus half fried rice & half chow mein - 2 people could easily share this meal) - due to their super-duper, HELLA generous portions! The meat to veggie ratio is even-ed out & they do NOT skimp unlike that certain you-know-who that even have drive-thru locations across the country! LOL! Flavor-wise, it was aiight, but what matters most is that you got your meal in a jiffy & since this place does more on to-go orders, being able to dine in peace was quite a welcome relief from a busy day at the office! If you're ever in the Eastside & cravin' for some inexpensive Chinese food that's made fresh & even piping hot from a steam table, Mr. Chau's gets my fast-food vote any day. Highly recommend to satisfy your hunger / appetite!

Walking in has a semi-confusing vibe. Hispanic music is playing (which is fine, just found it interesting). This is a very cute, almost old schoolish dine-in set up. Very minimal searing ao odn't bring your group. Would be perfect for take out for a picnic though. The 2 ladies working are extremely friendly. They offered us a sample of whicher item we wanted to taste. EVERYTHING LOOKS WARM, FRESH AND DELICIOUS. Chow Mein:Mushroom Chicken: was delectable. House chicken: very flavorful.Honey Chicken: my daughter, says muy deliciouso.Bbq Boneless Ribs: YummyEVERYTHING WAS SO FRESH.
