After hitting the Jack London Farmers Market with my family, we were looking for something to nosh on. Plank provided the perfect haven for the games but once they concluded, we wanted to try something new and exciting in Jack London. We saw Mia right by the waterfront ~ colorful, vibrant, and a taqueria/mezcal bar. Perfection! The staff is outstanding, and being with my family in the moment, you could really feel the love that this is a place and space for gathering and building/bringing your community. We ordered the margarita de la casa to start, guac & chips, and the quesadilla for the table. My husband ordered a burrito, whilemy dad and I hit alllll the tacos ~ they have a variety of taco style options here including options with the toppings and tortilla: De La Calle (corn tortilla with choice of meat, topped with whole beans, onion, cilantro), Tijuanese (hand made corn tortilla with choice of meat, guac, whole beans), Sonorense (hand made flour tortilla, choice of meat, salsa fresca, cabbage, whole beans), and Tacos de Papa (crispy corn tacos filled with potato and topped with lotsa goodness). Meat choices include pollo asado, pastor, and carne asada. While we visited, shrimp was on the menu as well as a chilaquiles that looked delicious. I love how simplistic and flavorful the dishes are - the meats incredibly well-cooked and executed, the drinks pouring. We def. did damage to the wallet, but after a large Sunday farmers market haul, we were more than treatin' ourselves! If you're lookin for a little pep in your step while in JLS, MIA provides. Check hours of operation before making the trip.

I've been here before and I've widely regarded them as the best tacos up here. Keep in mind I don't eat mammals. I realize there's lots of other options for those. But these tacos! The handmade Tijuanese is just amazing. And when you ask for hot sauce, they come correct. It's hot enough, but still some flavor. But where they shine is having delicious mezcal options. I need to try their one of their cocktails. So far I discovered Mas Bien and Leyendas with them. Both have an assortment of flavor profiles, but the smoke is light. So fantastic!

Cute little Mexican place in Jack London Square. It's order at the counter and then sit and eat your meal. The food is ooooookay but nothing memorable. The guava pastry I was so excited for but ended up being not so great. Probably popular with the local lunch crowd.

Visited on a Saturday evening around 6pm with a friend, there were several other groups seated inside and on the patio but plenty of bar seating. Drink: cocktails are mainly mezcal and tequila based i tried the Paloma - nice and refreshing, tart and bright with a subtle sweetness, citrus juice seemed fresh squeezed, there was a tajin rim tajin which added a nice spicy kickFood: Sonorense Al Pastor Taco - good, generous portion of meat, pork was well seasoned and tender, wish there was slightly more char but taste was delicious, meat was diced so no spit roasting here and no pineapple, taco was topped with diced white onion and cilantro no sauce, they did bring a bottle of red salsa which I tried a dab of and it was pretty good roasted tomato with a mild spice level, single tortilla house made flour tortilla which had a nice toasty griddle and slight chew Service was fine, order at the register and they provide a number and bring food and drink out to you when ready. Team was efficient and food came out pretty quick, drinks took a bit more time but not an overly long wait. Overall really enjoyed my experience here, food and drink were both good, price felt fair for the quality and portion size but on the pricier end. Beautiful bar area and love that they have patio seating, a great addition to the Jack London area. Would love to come back to try more of the menu.

Love this place! It was such a pleasant surprise. I was drawn in by the Horchata espresso, which I tried along with some tacos. They also had this cool Coyotas snack (like a Mexican pop tart) that I first tried at a previous event, and I was excited to find it here too. The atmosphere is cozy, the aesthetics are great, and the staff were super friendly and helped me figure out what to order.

Hidden gem in Jack London Square Oakland with authentic Mexican food. Their bar is chic and beautiful with lots of mezcal options. The bartender will walk you through all types of Mezcal flavors, similar to what you would get in a wine tasting. I've never learned so much about Mezcal in a short amount of time. The food is delicious and if you miss Tamarindo, these are the same owners! Family recipes, fresh ingredients, super flavorful. Homemade devil hot sauce if you dare to try it! We enjoyed our fabulous dinner of:- All 3 tacos meats: Carne Asada, Grilled Pollo, and Carnitas- Tacos De Papa: One of my fav dishes. Crispy corn taco filled with potatoes. Their spin of a vegetarian flaunta. - Mula: Handmade Corn Tortilla, a tall Quesadilla with guacamole and melted cheese. We had ours with steak. So good! They really designed the restaurant aesthetics to be a cool spot to grab a quick bite or lounge around. You walk up to the front and order and grab a number. It's casual but it's also nice inside for a date. The outdoor patio area is a bonus to bring your dogs. Super dog friendly! And, plenty of parking in the Jack London parking lot.

Overall, not a bad place.. but being in Oakland, there are a TON of better places with better price points. There is street parking available or a parking garage next to plank. The restaurant is very small with not a lot of seating, but very cute and welcoming. There is also outside seating. The menu is very limited. But if you already know what you're getting into, you can order intentionally. My friend ordered the chilaquiles with carne asada and an egg. They said it was very good and well seasoned! We both ordered Jamaica that contained cinnamon and we both enjoyed them. Loved the cinnamon in it.I ordered a quesadilla con pollo and wow, what a let down. I was starving and it looked like I was served a soft taco. Not a full quesadilla like I was expecting (compared to every single Mexican restaurant I've been to) and it wasn't cut. So really, I didn't even know it was my order until the server told me it was a quesadilla. Flavor overall wasn't bad, but I had better. Also, it was super wet and soggy upon arrival. Literally dripping juices. So the homemade tortilla that I would have loved to experience was very slimy. The texture was gross. Honestly I ate it because I was extremely hungry. I asked for chips, and luckily we had those to help fill me up (I devoured them because the quesadilla was such a small proportion.) if you're going to just fold it in half, at least use a large burrito tortilla and cut it. Also, definitely needs more cheese. Such a lackluster meal. Sadly I would not personally recommend this place, but I also wouldn't tell anyone to not go. However, if asked I would tell people to not order the quesadilla until they make improvements.
