This place has never disappointed me.While the tacos are on the pricier side, this is somewhere where I think it's worth it.The flavors pack a punch and the service is quick. Make sure you try the plantain taco and the shrimp tacos. Have heard great things about the surf and turf taco as well.Highly recommend you make this a stop when visiting San Pedro Square.

My mom and I came here after a mishap that prevented us from continuing with our previous dinner plans. We got two tacos as well as the daily aqua fresca which happened to be watermelon. The service and ambiance for Loteria Taco Bar is the same as most other places - San Pedro Market is relatively crowded, and you can see people going about their day and getting food while waiting for the beeper they give you to go off. The service is relatively friendly, though nothing remarkable. The food itself was quite oily, and the sauce was very spicy. I probably should've suspected that it would be like that but for some reason I decided to try it anyway, which made the aqua fresca very helpful. The aqua fresca, both before and after eating the taco, was very refreshing, but I ended up finishing it before finishing the taco which made the spice a bit harder to handle. Overall, it wasn't the best, but it was fulfilling enough to finish. I'm not sure if this is the type of food that I would go for again, but it was interesting to try.

First of all, the service was great and that is the only reason why the stars are even reached to 2 (stars) but this chicken burrito was cold, unseasoned chicken, unflavored ass red rice(make believe red rice at this point) and out of the can pinto looking and tasting beans. The chips were crispy and not stale and the salsa had a good kick and to be honest the salsa was the only thing holding this burrito together. I remember when I used to go to San Pedro in my 20s this taco bar used to be 10x better! what is happening!? But as all good things... they don't last I guess. I am beyond appalled to have spent $20 on a burrito I could've asked a kid to make for me using make believe ingredients in a make believe kitchen and have it taste better. You're better off going to la Vic's down the street! Better yet a taco truck! Do this info what you will. Do as I say, not as I do.

It's an ok taco/burrito/nacho place. My burrito just didn't have something special to it. It was just okay. And just okay is not okay. All jokes aside, you can't REALLY go wrong- it's decent.

I used to love this spot at San Pedro Square - it was my go to when I was there. I was disappointed to see that their prices have gone way up - I remember it being about $12/15 for three tacos and now it was almost twice that! Also they got rid of the taco that I loved, the kale and butternut squash one. I think overall their flavors are less creative now - I didn't see anything like the duck carnitas and whatnot they used to have. I kind of think a $9 taco should be substantial. I got the birria I think it was about $9 and decent but I can get 2 quesabirria elsewhere for that price that are better. The vegetarian one I got (plantain and black bean) was pretty good and I did like the shrimp taco - but they do seem very pricey for what you get!

We were looking for a quick lunch option around downtown San Jose and have always loved San Pedro square. Decided on Loteria Taco bar. You order at the counter and they give you a beeper to notify you when the food is ready. The service is good and friendly and you can see them cook the food right in front of you. We ordered the special of the day taco, the crispy pork tacos. My husband ordered some other taco that I can't remember and also got the garlic yuca fries. The crispy pork tacos had a lot of meat in it, but didn't have a lot of flavor. The pork was also dry. The chips and salsa were good though, so I drowned the taco in salsa to make up for the dryness. My husband's taco was smothered with so much of the juice the meat was sitting in, it was very soggy and disappointing. The one thing that saved the entire meal were those yuca fries. They were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and was seasoned perfectly. Overall, we were disappointed by the tacos but was still happy about the fries we ordered.

I've tried this spot a few times when I'm craving Mexican food in San Pedro square. They've got Innovative dishes like duck but I would say overall the flavor palette is mid..Nit to say it's bad because the food is good, it's just average. Price points are what to be expected and the portions are definitely worth the price. Service is always great and they take their cooking serious which I love to see. Needless to say Loteria is worth a stop by when you're in the SP square.

Marketing for this place is great. The food was not good at all. Ordered birria tacos, carne asada tacos, and carne asada fries. Fries were not good - not cooked all the way through either. The fries are thicker like wedge style fries, so that was unpleasant. The birria taco was super garlicky while also lacking flavor somehow. And the carne asada on the fries and the tacos was NASTY. Fries were $30 and untouched and tacos were $40. Don't do it.
