La Esquina Taqueria (located in East Oakland, Ca) is the epitome of a hidden gem Mexican restaurant. If you're craving authentic Mexican cuisine that is simply divine, then this is the place to go. Service is top notch and the ambiance is pretty cool.We decided to try the Camerones A la Diabla, a regular burrito, sope, and tacos. Let me tell you, they were all absolutely incredible. The Camerones a la diabla had a delightful freshness to it, with a mouthwatering red sauce. The shrimp was cooked to perfection, and the rice and beans were out of this world. We indulged in two tacos, one with tender chicken (pollo) and the other with flavorful al pastor pork. Both were heavenly, especially with the combination of onions, cilantro, and salsa.Trying the sope for the first time was a revelation. The combination of the crispy masa base, onions, tomatoes, and al pastor meat was absolutely heavenly. As for the burrito, we opted for the asada meat. Our daughters couldn't get enough of the burritos and thoroughly enjoyed them. This place is truly amazing and a must-visit Mexican restaurant if you find yourself in the Oakland Area. First time here and I can tell I love it already! Ordered takeout. Everything was packaged in a sturdy paper bag.Staff was kind and attentive. Seating area is intimate, nice and cozy! Seating is in an enclosed patio, so there isn't much noise from the road. Clean, well spaced. I'd love to be hear with a beer and tacos. Next time I'll stay!I was craving a Diabla camarones burrito and they had no issue making it even though it wasn't on the menu! Double wrapped, nice and tight, it was hot throughout with good rice texture and the flavors were amazing! Enjoyable warmth and flavor, salsa upped the heat a bit :) loved the juiciness to the burrito so good from beginning to last bite!I also ordered the menudo for later. The tortillas are a nice size and look handmade! I appreciate the chili oil and how well it was packaged for travel. This place seems like a neighborhood gem. Surprised it wasn't busier!

Caveat: for what I got, a solid 3.5. But warning for future-me to check whether tostadas and salsa/hot sauces actually made it into the takeout bag to avoid a repeat of the sad-me who wants to rate 3 stars. But anyone can make a mistake so will consider one more try. The ceviche tostada was missing the crunchy tostada today, so I got just a nice serving of shrimp in a tasty, medium spiced tomato sauce and maybe quarter of an avocado (I ordered it with guac). I guess that would be good if I were Keto? I never. The veggie sope was solid, beans, lettuce, tomato, cheese, crema on top of thick sope. I ordered guac on top and got a quarter avocado diced here, so I ended up with half an avocado total. Sadly, did not get any hot sauce to kick it up so I decided to take home for a late snack. Note to self to use condiments before leaving premises. Agua Frescas: the Jamaica had a little smell - maybe soap? Maybe skip. But the pepino limon one was perfect. No ice to dilute the flavor!

It was delicious and the server was very nice. I wish the burrito had a bit more meat but it was very flavorful and I'll definitely be back.

Food took a while.... 20+ minutes for a take out order with 1 order ahead of mine. Person behind me looked a little impatient too. And I wish the music was a touch quieter. Made the wait a little worse. The nachos were a huge disappointment, the asada was dry and flavorless and kind of mushy? They also skimped on sour cream and jalapeños and cheese (nacho sauce, not real cheese), and overall a small portion. The regular quesadilla was fine, beans kind of flavorless though, but my kids liked it. The burrito was the best, but unfortunately I won't be returning, even if it's only because of an occasional trip to the zoo. The sitting area was great though! Hidden and walled up so you feel safer.

Outstanding little taqueria. Hand made tortillas, outstanding meats, and large portions. The place is very clean and the customer service is fantastic. I've ordered about 12 different items and all have been incredible. Usually get the quesabirria.
