Kigawa bistro is a hidden gem in San Leonardo. The restaurant was quiet and the staff was very friendly. The food - My friend and I came here for lunch and decided to try the all you can eat option. We tried many different type of dishes and they were all very tasty. There was a lot of variety on the menu and all the seafood tasted very fresh! Our favorite items were the oyster, shrimp, scallops, and unagi fried rice. The unagi fried rice is a MUST TRY!! Sadly, our stomach wasn't big enough to try everything on the menu so we would definitely come back again!

There's plenty of fish in the sea and plenty of other good Sushi places, just not this one.I was told this place had great Sushi; apparently, that person has never had great Sushi let alone good Sushi. The tuna and spicy tuna smelt like a french who*re house and a pungent taste with cartilage. The salmon wasn't much better; mushy with the grey skin and both un-edible. My husband had a Bento Box and meh...average.All and all, paid $90 for two bites of the Sushi and 1/2 a Bento box. Edamame was good though lol. My thoughts, Safeway has fresher Sushi so run don't walk from this place and save your money for Sushi restaurant that doesn't serve RANK fish.

We ordered the Lobster Ramen, 8-piece Sashimi, Katsu Chicken, Vegetable Tempura, Lion King Roll, Kamikaze Roll, and Sake Nigiri. We arrived an hour and a half before the kitchen closed, and they were happy to seat us and take our order. The service was as expected, and overall, the food was enjoyable. The sashimi was fresh and generously portioned, while the Lobster Ramen had a rich, flavorful broth with tender noodles. The Katsu and Tempura were fried to a light golden perfection, and the rolls were well-prepared.However, I'm giving 2 stars because the Sake Nigiri was never brought to our table, though we were charged for it. When we asked, the server mentioned it was included with the sashimi, but it clearly wasn't, as Sake Nigiri is served over a mound of vinegared sushi rice, which was not in the bowl. Unfortunately, they didn't adjust the bill or bring out the missing item.

My first time here and I enjoyed my Black Garlic Ramen. The service was bad, miso soup spilled on our table and he saw it. He didn't do anything. We had to ask for napkins so we can clean it up. And he gave us one. So we ate a with a miso soup on our table still. Bad business.

Another good family dinner. My mother in law had a hard time ordering wine. After talking to the other waitress, it seems our waitress didn't know what wine was or didn't know the English word for wine. The other waitress had to explain to her what we wanted and called it something else. In the end my mother in law got her glass of white wine. A must for dinner. All but, one time they didn't serve wine. It was almost a deal breaker. She's used to having wine at dinner. We saw someone brought their own bottle of sake. Maybe we should just carry our own bottle of wine just in case. They redecorated since last time we were there. They removed the room divider near the bathroom and put up a fabric room divider on the door so the entrance to the bathroom is disguised. With out the room divider and their bookshelf it really opens up the room. It looks so much bigger with more tables. They got rid of the long table too. Now they just have 4 seater tables. I assume if you have a larger party you can put two tables together. They also add fabric runners on the ceiling with a Japanese motif. They also hung lanterns. It's really nice. They still kept the plastic pumpkin basket on the sushi bar along with the waving cat.Dinner was good. I ordered the bento box. I had the California roll and fried tofu appetizer . It comes with miso soup a salad with superb dressing. I believe it's miso dressing and rice.Service was good other than the miscommunication about the wine. They took our empty dishes when they brought the different courses. There was only 2 other parties there while we were there. It was a very relaxed environment. We weren't rushed out. We never have a problem getting a table. We were a Friday around 6:30 p.m. They also have their own private lot. There was plenty of parking space this time. Some times it fills up, but we've always gotten a spot, sometimes the last spot, but that still counts.

Honestly, we had decent service and food was tasty; however, I looked at other tables and the tables were occupied for a protracted amount of time due to only one server during dinner time and orders were slow to get to their tables. Two sushi chefs who I'm not sure speak any English were not very helpful when I approached them for assistance while the server was in the kitchen prepping bento boxes. Honestly can't blame the server as she assisted us whenever we waved her down, but she definitely needed HELP.The four of us shared a dinner bento of Kalbi, Chicken Katsu, and Tempura. It was very good with two nicely done strips of Kalbi, tempura that was crisp and hot, and one of the better Chicken Katsus that we've had in a long time. We also ordered a Sushi/Sashimi/Roll platter that consisted of 9 pieces of chefs' choice nigiri, 15 slices of five kinds of fish (salmon, maguro, albacore, toro, Haimachi) and three rolls. We thought it was a good deal and the fish was fresh. Maybe our timing was right as we got there before most of the crowd and ordered quickly.Oh well, get some help as the food is good.

Craving Japanese food to go. We ordered a Tonkatsu Soup Ramen with an extra egg and spinach and Shoyu Soup Ramen. Both were delicious and the broth was flavorful.

Small little spot off a main street, can't miss it, with adequate parking available. Service was great and accommodating.Karaage - (3/5): Great crunch and flavor, though pieces were very smallShoyu ramen - (3/5): Decent portion size, the pork belly was a bit fattier than I typically like but I enjoyed the ample amount of it. Omakase nigiri - (1/5): Never again, I not only had repeat pieces but some of them made me gag and I couldn't chew some of the pieces. I did not end up finishing the box. The fish was not fresh and some fell apart as soon as I picked it up. Hard pass.

Yelp check-in = Free soda. They honored each Yelp check-in, thanks. What an interesting experience...I am being generous with this review, more of 1.5 stars if even that.Quality/Quantity - D1 Chirashi Don - This was okay. The fish was fresh. I was starving when I got here, so the rice even tasted good, but only because I was starving. Not sure if I would have called this "sushi rice." It did not have the correct vinegar, sugar, and salt flavors that good "sushi rice" has.Kigawa Special Roll - As you know, we have to try the specials. This was okay. I think we would have enjoyed it more if the service was better. I think the poor service left a bad taste in our mouth, see below.Scallop Chicken Ramen - This was the best dish of them all. Decent portions. Good flavors. Good presentation. We did notice that "scallop" is singular and we actually only got half a scallop...Atmosphere - Small local restaurant. They used to own the location in San Ramon which is currently closed.Indoor and outdoor dining. Sushi bar seating.Private parking lot, thank you. Nice and convenient.Open 7 days a week from 11:30am to 9pm. But no one was here at 1:30pm...Service - What a failure...At 1:30pm, we were the ONLY customers. Actually we were the only people in the building??? As you can see from my pictures. We almost left. When the first guy arrived, we asked if he was open... As we would have left if he said no. He seemed confused, so we asked again. We then asked if we could sit at the corner table which confused him again... I think eventually he said yes. Then he hurriedly left.Another woman came, she was in a bad mood, maybe we disturbed their lunch...?As first time customers, we had many questions, especially about the sushi specials. She talked so fast that NO one understood her. I even think she mumbled her answers. My daughter wanted to know which rolls were which because the menu didn't even label it. When my daughter was asking, the waitress walked away mid sentence. So when she came back, we re-asked what one of the rolls were, and she said the picture is old and they don't sell that roll anymore. That's why we were so confused... At this point we thought about leaving, but I was starving. We even asked her if we interrupted her lunch...? And that we know they close at 2:30pm and we are fast eaters. We tried to make positive jokes to lighten her up and it might have worked (for a whole second).Lastly, we discovered that there were at least 4 employees, as they slowly came out from the back to hang out in the sushi bar area...Price - $65 + more generous tip then deserved. Hope it makes their day better.Owner Comments - Congrats on your success since 2018. We usually give businesses a second try, but we probably will not this time. Knowing that you had 4 employees, none with any service skills, left a bad taste in our mouth. Plus there are SO many good sushi restaurants in the area.

Love going to this place for a date or with family, they offer great sushi and fish for a nice fair price. The chefs plate in front of you and also they offer more than sushi and seafood, they have ramen which I always enjoy. The service is always kind and they are always so helpful.
