JP's Family Restaurant & Sports Lounge

We came here on a weekday morning and were greeted and seated right away. We ordered the chicken and waffles and the breakfast burrito with bacon. We also ordered the fried pancake to share.The fried pancake tasted like something you could get at the fair, but it was also very tasty. It also tasted kind of like a churro. The chicken and waffles were huge. My partner really enjoyed the fried chicken and the waffle was both crispy and fluffy. However, the chicken was bone-in, and pretty much chicken wings. I think that the menu should have indicated that this was the case. I think our least favorite thing was the breakfast burrito. It had more meat than it did anything else, and we could barely taste the salsa, cheese or sour cream. We also saw little egg in there. But it was still good, just not what we were used to. The bacon was neither crispy nor did it have much flavor, so they could work on that dish. Overall, the food and service here was great and we would come back to try other things.

Came in for Sunday Brunch about 12nish and got a table right away. Sever came over fairly fast with coffee and ice water.Meatballs were just okay, a little mushy and the marinara sauce was watery with no flavor. Would no order again.Chilaquiles with chicken, over easy eggs, tortilla chips, salsa verde, queso fresco, red onion, sour cream, & avocado was very good and large portion.Chicken Fried Steak & Over Easy Eggs with home made County Gravy was really good. I especially like the gravy, it came with lots a little chunks of sausage.I have been here once before and had their wings, with was pretty good as well.

I originally drafted this review but forgot to post it. I visited JP's for the first time on October 26, 2024, and I can't believe I hadn't noticed this spot before. It's definitely a hidden gem that everyone should check out. The food was pretty good overall, but the fried pancake oh my gosh, 10/10! (I forgot to get a picture)We came after a hike, and while it was somewhat busy, we didn't have to wait to be seated. However, I got the feeling that if we had arrived after 11 a.m. the place would have been packed. By the time we were finishing up, the restaurant was definitely filling up, which tells me it's a popular spot. I highly recommend checking it out, and I'd definitely go back!

Okay I learned my lesson! The Host was welcoming and barely waited 5 minutes to be seated. The waitress Shiela looked as if she either was overworked or didnt want to be there. She asked "Do u know what u want? I was asked? and I replied yes, then without writing down which I didnt mind. I told her my order and she left just to come back and have me repeat it again! The food came out and it was fine and was told my toast would be out later! like what? Was never asked for my coffee to be refilled or anything else. I had to flag her down and ask for coffee . It wasnt that busy for valentines day. My waitress was also the bartender but atleast smile and check on me. Food was fine but not service and Im sorry but I wont be back.

This is a tucked away Gem so far.The food is delicious & the service excellent.I've brought a few here that have never heard of/seen this place before. I most recently brought my mom & an old friend here for drinks and food. We had a good time & the food was mouth watering per usual. I was craving a cheeseburger & other things on the menu so I took the chance to order extra since others were with me and I wouldn't feel obligated to eat it all. I ordered the cheese burger, garlic lemon pepper wings and the artichoke dip and they did not disappoint. I've have many items here including the shrimp (multiple ways on the menu), the chicken Marsala and the breakfast menu items...all flawless over my visits. The service is great and everyone helps out here...there is the host/hostess assisting you, but everyone seems to help out/be involved here. This place gives Mom & Pops with the food and service.I recommend this as a chill goto place for good drinks, great food, and friendly service.

The food and service at this place is worth trying for yourself. I have had 5 pleasant experiences here since I moved back to California. Today I ordered the Bbq ribs. The meat is plenty and it slid right off the bone. The garlic bread is toasted perfectly and with lots of garlicky flavor. I also enjoy the chili here, just the right amount of kick after a few scoops. I will keep coming back for sure. I enjoy eating breakfast, lunch, and dinner here.

I've been putting this review off for a while now because of the inconsistency. It's truly a hit or miss for me. The service is always polite and refreshments are always being replenished, however, the food (I've done both lunch and breakfast multiple times and gotten various items) has always been a bit inconsistent. They used to have potato salad (available with lunch items) and corned beef hash (as a breakfast item) I was told they no longer carry it. So, I stopped ordering breakfast bevause that's all I would get. As far as lunch, now I have to get a side salad because my potato salad has been taken off the menu. Theyre prices are a bit high for what it is. I don't mind paying it as long as it matches the quality of the food - which I feel it doesnt.They have indoor and outdoor seating, mostly locals vosit this place. The crowd ranges from mostly families to more mature individuals. Seems to be ample parking along with plenty of space for an event.I always see local law enforcement eating there when I stop in so I at least feel safe while eating there.

I was intrigued by their revamped menu featuring bbq so much that I had to check it out. I was a bit disappointed that the menu didn't explicitly show a combo meat dish but needed explanation by a wait person. My bad. The dining room was an extension of the bar with multiple big screens broadcast sporting activities. From prior visits, it looks like many familiar diners. So narrowing my choice, I had to asked the difference between the short rib vs beef back rib. In either case, there was only one piece. From the kitchen, the short rib is much tender whereas the beef rib considered to be more flavorful from the seasoning. So I opted for the short rib, salad and garlic bread with ice tea. The wait person was attentive to refill my ice tea glass. The short rib was so tender that the bone slided out with a slight tug. The meat was tender as advertised and flavorful with or without the bbq sauce. The sauce was on point and rival any bbq joint. It was to my liking, on the sweeter side. There is something about house salad with simple thousand island dressing that's always so good. I had enjoyed my short rib though I thought it was a bit on the pricey side and perhaps another choice would be closer to a price point I prefer but I will save that for another review. Nonetheless it was a good meal.

Best sports bar set up in Castro valley, food is outstanding, especially the breakfast and dinner menu!

Always fast! Free ice cream for kids' meals ! Even offered to service friends who were very late. My faves: Tender brisket, Korean tacos, Cobb salad, Lavender shine cocktail, Bloody Mary w bacon Yummmm!! Family-run biz with great outdoor dog-friendly area!
