House of Bagels

The bagels are ok but the drink selection is good. The food comes out quickly. There isn't much art or anything on the walls.

The taste of the bagels are pretty good but the size is small. Lady at the counter was unfriendly too. We ordered a tuna bagel and a lox bagel. But it was only after she toasted our bagels that she told us she ran out of tuna. Without apology, she proceeded to recommend other bagels to us. I still ordered something else because I felt bad but that wasn't a very pleasant experience.

Strolled in around noon and the place was completely empty, presumably because most of the business is at the early morning hours. Got helped right away. What drew me in was the sign about New York style bagels. I got the breakfast bagel sandwich on a cinnamon raisin bagel. Still have the good sweet smell you'd expect from this selection. Food was served warm. Bagel: a little small for the price but Inflation, not going to blame them so much. They toasted nicely so it has a nice crisp initial first bite. The contents are average, nothing too exciting going on here. Add a little salt n pepper with ketchup to taste to brighten this up for sure.

Meah The bagels were good there were some nice options but sometimes about this place just did not feel welcoming if you get what I mean It really felt like the place was closing

Like some others have said, the vibe is tough. I dont know if rents went up or crime just kicked them hard, but they are now charging $28 a dozen - not a bakers dozen - (considerable inflation) and the bagels are not nearly the size or caliber of others in Oakland. They never seem happy to see customers and, as mentioned, the place has the feeling like it might close. Ive been a loyal customer for years, so I asked about the price hike. They looked at me like I was crazy and like they've never seen my face even though I've gone there at least once a month forever. I want to support small family businesses that actually seem like they want to be there. It made me miss NYC so much. My bagel guy was always great.

House of Bagels has been in the Montclair neighborhood in Oakland for a long time. There are several other cafes/places with bagels including the supermarkets, I tended to go here or Noah's Bagels (they have a rewards program and occasional coupon days). Recently the Noah's went out of business/left, so this is the place.The owners, Chinese couple, seem pretty nice and thoughtful.I've enjoyed their breakfast bagel sandwiches, most recently I've really enjoyed their pastrami bagel sandwich which is pretty fresh.One of my favorite bagels after plain, sesame and everything bagels is sun dried tomato. For some reason a lot of places don't have sun dried tomato bagels anymore. They also have a sourdough bagel which has been added into my personal rotation.If you get your bagel fix on, this is a good place to do it.

I am so happy I found this place! Their bagels tasted great and came fresh! Plenty of bagel options as well as cream cheese options. They were able to accommodate a catering order for about 35 people and the entire process went smooth. The manager went above and beyond to make sure everyone was taken care of!!

This is a great locally owned business. A lot of bagel options and they are tasty!! My personal favorite is the veggie bagel on everything. Sooo good. They have a lot of bagel sandwich options that I can't wait to try. So much better than Noah's in my opinion, and it's always a good feeling supporting locally owned businesses!

Ordered lox bagels with avocado, chive cream cheese, and cucumber added with the normal menu ingredients listed. I asked again when receiving the food if the order was correct and had all of the toppings, she said yes. To my surprise, there was no avocado, chive cream cheese, or onion.. on my lox bagel :/Salmon quality was good but not worth it if not paired with the right ingredients. Not mad, just disappointed.As an employee, please make sure the customer is getting what they order. Especially if it's a take out order and they don't have the option to come back and get it corrected.

They provided tasty bagels, quick service, and multiple sizes of cream cheese and other schmears that we bought for the teachers' picket line. I hope they decide to donate more bagels to the striking teachers.
