Very nice hidden gem in San Leandro. We were looking for Chinese food and yelp pulled this place up. I wouldn't. Call it Chinese at all, more Thai fusion. Very very tasty with organ meats which are done in a variety of ways. The service is very pleasant. She made mw u suggestions and helped us order better. The ambiance was cute. Clean and comfy. The restrooms are clean too.

Based off of previous reviews, my boyfriend and I were definitely hesitant to try this place.. but because it seems that there are no other Chinese skewer spots in the vicinity (Allie Daddy switched from skewers to sushi, and we didn't feel like driving all the way out to Fremont/Milpitas), we gave this place a shot. The menu is pretty light, so it makes it easier to decide what you want to eat. We ordered a little lighter since we weren't too sure of the place yet.Skewers:Beef Skewers ($4.99 for 3) - Good flavor! However, not consistently cooked... the first skewer my boyfriend tried was completely raw in the middle. The other two skewers were cooked a good medium rare. Lightly seasoned and a little sweet in comparison to most Chinese skewer spots that hurt throw on a ton of cumin. We notified the workers about the raw skewer and they recooked us a new batch, but overcooked it the best time to make sure it was fully cooked through -_- but it still had decent flavor and was still somewhat tender with a slight jerkier consistency..Pork Jowl ($4.99 for 3) - Cooked well. Fatty, large pieces. Solid choice.Lemongrass Chicken Wings ($9.99) - This dish threw me off. It came out looking like a xylophone sorted from biggest size chicken wing to the tiniest wing they could cook. And it looked absolutely NOTHING like the picture someone else posted of the same chicken wings (confirmed with the waitress that the picture was of the same order; just cooked differently). So weird. Tasted fine though. And they gave us 6 wings instead of 5, probably because the wings were so small.Cheese w/ Beef Pancake ($8.99) - THIS. This was good. So simple, yet comforting. Beef was tender, pancake was fluffy and crispy, yet glutinous. The only note is that it's a bit oily, so they could probably lay it on a paper towel to absorb some of that oil or something underneath, but otherwise I loved it.Personally, I'd come here again. But based on the reviews, that's probably because I didn't try their Thai food. Lol, the theme of Thai food confuses me for that place. Don't think I've ever been to a Chinese spot trying to be a Thai restaurant too. But safe to say that their Chinese representation of food worked for us. We did get a bubbly stomach shortly after though, heh, so be forewarned.Ambiance wise, it's a cute small, cozy spot.

You do not get what you pay for at this establishment. Paid $15 for a small container of bones! Wtf, Thai Chicken basil that was all bones? They cut drumsticks into small pieces. Nothing but bones, fat and skin. Someone may really enjoy this type of meal but not I. I was beyond difficult to eat without using your hands. Horrible.

Super cute little Chinese café at the former site of Licensed 2 Grill! Even though L2G will be dearly missed, I'm glad a worthy spot has now taken its place. The owners and workers at Hometown Kitchen are all relatively friendly, young and hip. They speak Cantonese and Toisanese (possibly Mandarin, but I didn't verify). During my visit, no English speakers were present, so I can't critique their proficiency. The menu is quite extensive, with a mix of Cantonese/HK (porridge, clay pot, rice bowls, various noodle dishes, organ soup, waffles, etc.) and a bit of northern cuisine (skewers, pancakes). In true Chinese numerology fashion, all prices end in 88, which is the sign for good luck and fortune!Speaking of prices, as of right now, everything is extremely reasonable. When I ordered a few skewers (chicken and pork belly) at $2.18 a pop, I was expecting a single strand, as most other places tend to offer.I was shocked and pleasantly surprised when I was served up THREE whole stacked sticks. And they were all plenty delectable to boot! Furthermore, the Beef Organ and Turnip soup ($11.88) was quite tasty and fresh as well.Another member of my small group also ordered the Pork Belly with Black Bean Sauce Rice Bowl. Although I didn't get to try this one, it seemed to be a hit, and is best devoured with a heaping serving of chili sauce to balance the taste. As of this writing, Hometown Kitchen is still in "soft opening" mode, so do expect offerings and pricing to fluctuate. I most definitely will be returning to sample more items, and am very happy to have another great option very close to my "hometown."

Service is terrible. Calling the restaurant for missing delivery lunch. The lady who picked up the phone was so mean!!! Although the delivery driver delivered to wrong palace, perhaps the lady don't know what happened. But the lady should check for the customer at least? Never call back and update the situation! And when I call backed, she hanged up my phone!!! Totally disappointed. Will never order again

Shrimp pad thai was too sour and wet. 5 good size Chicken wings for $9.99. Fish sticks are thin but tasted good. Service was very good, place is very clean. Like the decoration. I want to try the noodle soup next, I can soup base, type of noodles and toppings.
