Great comfort food Japanese spot with a sizable menu. Ate here on a Friday night and there was only one party that was just leaving. Waiter was nice, albeit a little odd and of few words, and slightly inattentive when taking the order.Went with the chicken katsu curry, the Fuji Summer chicken fried rice, grilled shishitos, and the gyoza. Got an Ito En to drink. The waiter repeated the order back when I made it, but when he brought out the food and didn't bring the rice or shishitos, he seemed surprised when I asked about them and there was a bit of a wait for them. He may have forgotten to put the order in.The shishitos were spicy and grilled nicely, but the sauce was too thick and a bit too sweet. The curry was great, with chunks of soft carrot and good flavor, and the chicken was super crispy on the outside. The fried rice was delicious, with a good amount of chicken and vegetables and very flavorful. The gyoza had an especially good dipping sauce. I didn't like that the rest of the Ito En wasn't served alongside the glass they put it in. The glass didn't look tall enough to have been able to accommodate the entire bottle plus the ice, so I suspect that they only poured what could fit in the glass and then kept the rest in the back. Other Japanese places give you the rest of the bottle, which they should when you're paying for the whole thing.Small issues aside, the meal was delicious and it's nice to have another place in the East Bay to get Japanese curry. I wouldn't go out of my way to get Japanese here, but would come back the next time I'm in the area.

Was in the mood for some soba so stopped into this Japanese spot with a diverse menu. Ended up with the tempura soba meal, one roll (don't remember which one) and an okonomiyaki. Everything was decent, but nothing was spectacular enough to make me hurry back for more.

Lunch date here with a friend and the lunch specials hit the spot. The food came out fairly quickly and was made to order. I enjoyed my grilled salted mackerel and the tempura squid which is an unusual menu item I've never seen before. My friend enjoyed her udon and spicy tuna roll. I do think it's unusual for a Japanese place not to offer hot tea so management may want to consider that for the winter time, but other than that, everything was good. The tables were clean and orderly and the other diners seemed to be enjoying their meals.

Was so excited to try a local place out but was very sadly disappointed. First of all, my friend called in our order and when she had asked whether they give discounts to nearby healthcare hospital workers, the man on the phone laughed and said they do not at this time. There are other shops on the street that do give discounts, so it was a valid question. We ordered to go and these are the things we ordered:- spicy tuna roll: pretty pricey more than $11 roll with little tuna. The only thing spicy was the sauce it seemed. Otherwise, the rice and other ingredients seemed fine.- 49er roll: the salmon looked more pink to me than orange and again the roll itself is not that large. The biggest issue I had was that there were large chunks of lemon that were not edible at all and had a lot of the white bitter area. Usually the 49er roll has very thin slices of lemon that are fine to eat.- Tonkotsu ramen: the ramen soup was bland and lacked depth of flavor. It was quite milky. The spicy sauce that comes with it was just a regular chili oil with some chili flakes, which is not what usually goes to make ramen more spicy.Overall, I was very disappointed in our experience.

Gal up front was nice and pleasant. Greeted and seated us. They have a large menu and that may be some of the items aren't as good as other places imo We each tried a lunch special with different items. I had chicken teriyaki and curry rice. Chicken yaki was actually pretty good. The curry was not my speed at all. No heat, not much of a curry flavor. Almost like a stewed tomato sauce and rice.Chicken karage was oily/greasy and had a good bit of fish taste to it. Presumably because it's fried in the same oil. Water has like a lemon cucumber taste to it. I can't stand cucumber. Alot of better options on the same street. I liked the little shop but the food is not for me.

TLDR: a portfolio of menu choices, plenty of seating, and nestled in a cute neighborhood. My friends and I dined here on a week night and were seated right away. They got sushi rolls and a Japanese curry combo which they raved about. My grill squid was just ok as it didn't have the charcoal flavor typically associated it, and the portion size seems to be small. Perhaps I picked wrong? All in all, an easy breezy dinner in a quiet neighborhood!

If you're craving Japanese this'll do in a pinch. They have the standard rolls and fishies such as tuna, yelllowtail and salmon. It's a no frill spot so don't expect seasonal fish or omakase on the menu. They have an extensive roll and bento option typically found. We ordered the chirashi and sushi sashimi combo. The fish weren't quite as fresh yet it didn't job of satisfying our Japanese itch. We would probably come back for the lunch specials since that is easier on our wallet. Keep in mind parking isn't easy in this area.

I was excited to try this new restaurant tonight, had reviewed menu, decided what to order, and we showed up at 6:15pm to find it closed. Sign on door says they close at 5pm. Website says they are open until 9pm most days of the week. Website and Yelp need to be updated.
