I'm new to the bay and this market is a 1 minute walk for me, so convenient. I want to love this place so bad because they really do have everything you need. But even for the bay the prices are outrageous. I do the math as I'm shopping, especially for produce. Then the cashier never rings up the correct price but twice as much as he should. Every time. They upcharge me by $20 at least each time. And they don't give you an itemized receipt either. Y'all need to do better. The people around here don't deserve to be taken advantage of.

I've been shopping here since the store opened. The Arab family that took it over 20 years ago put a lot into improving it. They are a friendly family and really keep the place stocked with quality produce thats locally grown, organic, and very reasonably priced. When they took over the store they realized that the Mexican run meat market was vital to the success of the venue and wisely struck a deal with the owner to keep it there. The Arrachera Steak and Queso Fresco Cheese sold here is the best you can buy this side of the border. (Arrachera Steak--top sirloin--when thinly sliced and marinated is excellent for taco barbeques; and, Queso Fresco Cheese, when cube sliced, is probably the most delicious appetizer in the world.)The produce, meat market, parking lot, this venue's taco truck, "La Esmeralda," the front door hot dog and churro cart, and proximity to the huge laundromat across the street have made this a routine stop for our family for decades. This is a must try for both organic vegetarians, and Mexican Steak or Cheese lovers alike. The taco truck alone features a huge variety of food, from routine tacos and burritos, to sopes, enchiladas platers, hamburgers and fries, and your choice of fried or grilled chicken with refried bean spanish rice and salad combos. Everything is very reasonably priced and delicious.Despite its small size, this venue is one of my most favorite in Oakland.Chow

East Oakland is a haven for liquor stores and mini markets, so it's kinda hard for little markets like this one to thrive, but despite the competition; this place has held its own for years and will continue to do so because they have all the qualities that a successful business needs to survive. First off, they are easily accessible from the Boulevard and have a private parking lot for your convenience, so you don't have to worry about being side swiped in your street parking, like many people tend to do. Secondly, this store offers tons of products, they are truly a one stop shop, not only do they carry mainstream goods like Tide and Coke, but they also carry many hard to find latin items like Flor De Cana. Lastly, the staff are always very helpful and usually make an attempt to remember you and your preferred purchases, it truly is nice to feel like more than a dollar sign for a business :)

The owner of this place is nice. The store is in need of a remodeling. My friend has been coming here for a long time. She had an issue here and it took a month to get it fixed. I usually only come here with my friend. This isn't a place I would drive all the way just to pick up meat and produce. Which means the customer service isn't the best.

The worst place ever! Produce is hardly ever fresh, meat isn't the best quality and is old, the canned goods are often expired along with the dry goods. They'll clearly rip you off if you don't pay attention by ringing up a different item code or just manually entering an amount for total!! I've gotten into arguments with the owner for over-charging items by adding fraudulent CRV charges. For example, I purchased a one unit item, but was taxed for a 12pk worth of CRV and tax!!! Not to mention that this place isn't recognized by the BBB is already a huge red flag!!!!

I wanted to like this place and support a local business, but, be aware that they charge you whatever price they feel like if the price isn't posted. I bought a 12 pack one day for 17.99, next day they tried charging me 19.99. Brought it up to the cashier and they gave it to me at 17.99. Shady.

This is a local neighborhood market... which I categorize under Mexican Market... it's not Mexican owned but carry all the Mexican products... any-who... I use to do all my shopping in here... both meat and produce are super cheap. Not always the best quality but extremely cheap... I stopped shopping there because the checkout lines are basically nonexistent... and there is always confusion and arguing going on regarding who's next. I shopped there for years... new the employee's etc. One day I went brought some stuff and the kid behind the register for got one of my products. When I got home I figured no big deal, I'll let him know the next time I am in... I did and the kid (teenager at the time) got all huffy and puffy with me telling me I was lying. As if I am going to lie for a few bucks. I felt because I shopped there several times a week I deserved better service and trust from them... I didn't like that he raised his voice at me... for one I am a full adult and two I am a customer (a regular one at that)... I decided it wasn't worth the annoyance and took my business elsewhere... down Foothill Blvd where tons of more Mexican Markets exist. There's where I have been shopping for the last 4-5 years. So today out of desperation for Chicken and too lazy to go all the way to the other markets - I went back in. The place looks pretty much the same. They always had cute meat counter boys :op I was checking out, a kid was working the register while the guy from above was supervising him. No one else was behind me so it's not like I was holding up the line... I was looking for my $1 bills instead of breaking a $20... the kid says "Oh just give me the $20". WTF... maybe I'm just being overly sensitive today but I thought that was extremely rude... the guy watching him didn't say anything just smirked. In the end I made their butts wait and gave them what I wanted too... Perhaps I walked into this store with steal a chip on my shoulder. I'm not sure... but I do know the next time I need something Imma take my lazy butt down to Foothill there the prices are basically the same and the people are TONS friendlier!
