So I'm gluten free, and it's always a bit hard to eat asian food. The waitress seemed very knowledgable on whats gluten free or not, and she knew what had soy sauce in it (surprisingly, a lot of people in the restaurant business dont know soy sauce has gluten so hats off to her!) I figured the unagi sauce had gluten as well so we asked for the sauce on the side when we ordered the fries. I didnt ask if the fryer was separate. For the main course, we got the chef's special sashimi and this was amazing. All of the pieces wowed me. A lot of them were buttery smooth and delicious. It made me want a second order. For dessert, seeing gluten free mochi doughnuts offered made me so happy. One skewer had cinnamon sugar and another had the hojicha sauce and both was delicious.

We came back here to enjoy a slower Monday at work lunch. The service was slower here too - my husband finished his ramen before I even got my nigiri and appetizer of chips and poke. The taste was fine, not as good as I remember it (but I did not get the ramen). But it has been a while since I've been here. My biggest complaint was my husband and I are showing signs of bad food/mild case of food poisoning, probably from the nigiri. So maybe the "no fish Monday" rule still holds true. Ambiance is casual. Kids will do ok here, and high chairs are provided.

I came in wanting good sashimi, good service, and a nice (and clean) ambience for a dinner date.We loved everything er ordered and had good service . I liked the inside interior design, it's casual and comfortable and clean, warm lighting that's good for dates but also bright enough to be family friendly, not sure if that made sense. -Omakase Sashimi Experience (chef's choice of 12 pc sashimi, and you get an appetizer with it, and soup and salad).-grilled short ribs-Sashimi combination: 3 tuna, 3 salmon, 3 yellowtail-Daruma sushi rollI highly recommend all of the above to try. I appreciate the aesthetics on the plate.

I've passed by this restaurant many times but yesterday was the first I dine in. And I'm happy I did. The prices are good, the atmosphere is amazing, the food is beyond delicious! The menu is pretty extensive for a sushi place and I'll definitely be back to try some more food. The only thing would be keep in mind that the restaurant is pretty busy so make sure you are okay with some wait.

Had a great time here! We came in during happy hour & ordered three items:- the nigiri experience set was amazing, 10 pieces that were beautifully plated & with each nigiri piece helpfully labeled on a card. It also came with miso & salad, plus a mystery side dish which for us was a teriyaki grilled salmon that was so tenderly cooked & perfectly fatty. For the Nigiri set the salmon belly, kampachi, and toro especially were so tender, fresh, and delicious. Overall great value for price & and quality of the fish. 4.5/5 - Tonkatsu ramen: tonkatsu pork was soft and fatty, but the broth had a smoky almost burnt flavor which detracted from the experience. 3/5 - spicy tuna roll: was $8 for happy hour, tuna not too fresh & they used Tajin mexican spice mix on the rolls which clashed with the tuna roll. not really worth especially contrasted with quality of the nigiri set. 2/5 Service was great, and the ambiance is lovely! the decor is very Japanese inspired with a modern twist, and this October they had lots of Halloween themed decor which was fun. Overall loved the presentation of the nigiri set & would come back for it again!

I've come here a couple of times for lunch and was always happy with their prompt and friendly service. It was quick to get seated and the staff is attentive throughout your meal to ensure you have everything you need. They have some lunch specials - I always get the sashimi combo which comes with a bowl of miso soup. The sashimi is 2 pieces of 3 different kinds of fish and is always fresh, although I wish the actual amount of fish provided was a little bigger. I also got their uni spoon the last time I came and it was so delicious. It's a cold app but has a great combo of sweet and savory flavors incorporated. You can also get a cup of tea on the side for only $2 - it's hot and comforting and you don't have to get a whole teapot like at some places, which ends up being too much for one person. And the teas come with free refills.

Saw Eighty-Eight pop up a few times on my IG and figured to give it a go! Primarily came here for the omakase, albiet untraditional, it is served all at once to the table. Scallop Carpaccio to start, Omakase with mochi donuts for dessert.Service was very accommodating to dietary restrictions and was almost entirely able to make everything gluten-free. The omakase in comparison to my friend was a bit different in fish offerings, but happy she was able to have substitutions. Scallop Carpaccio ($20) was great! Tender and sweet Hokkaido scallops, topped with ikura and dressed in their yuzu kosho, truffil oil and ponzu sauce. Light, refreshing and a perfect way to start the meal.Omakase Nigiri ($60) came with 10 pieces served with miso soup and salad. Out of the pieces, not too many were stand out. The Hokkaido scallop, maguro and uni were good, ofc. Though the rest of the pieces were easily forgettable. A gripe I had was the rice was on the firm side and underdone, the nigiri fell apart easily, hence the star deductions. If I were to come back again, I'd probably opt for the Omakase Sashimi instead.Enjoyed the thorough service and quality of fish provided!

I've been here twice and I think there are better sushi spots in the Bay Area.In terms of ambiance, it is pretty average. The service is decent and there is some decor, and it's definitely more of a casual place. For food, I've tried many of their dishes and below are some initial impressions- omakase: this is well plated and looks nice, but I think you can get it fresher elsewhere- garlic tonkotsu ramen: in general, I think getting ramen at a sushi place is never the move. The ramen here was decent, but I would not come back for it- rolls: I think they try hard to do fusion rolls, but it didn't really work for me. I tried the carne asada roll, and the flavors just didn't come through well at all- grilled short ribs: this is an appetizer but it's rly good as a entree as well. Out of everything on the menu, I enjoyed this the most and it was very well priced- salmon sashimi: I enjoyed it but the plating was really bad. I wish they offered fresh wasabi with this- the shooters / spoons: it's super fun to try but taste-wise it was too fishy for meThis may be a great place if you want something that is very fusion-y but if you want authentic Japanese food I'd look elsewhere.

3.5 stars for an above average sushi spot in the San Antonio shopping center. I kept getting IG targeted by them, and was happy to finally check it out. It's a pretty standard Chinese owned sushi restaurant with a LOT of choice. Pleasantly surprised by the freshness of sushi, cleanliness, and speed of food coming out. I would stick with the rolls (vs the ramen or other cooked items).* Agedashi Tofu ($10) - 3 stars: Pretty standard, not super crunchy, not salty enough, but satisfying nonetheless!* Miso Soup ($5) - 3 stars: From a packet, it was fine? Ordered this because my stomach wasn't feeling well.* Poke Chips ($18): A large portion of fresh looking poke! I could not taste this because I was unwell, but friends said it was good.* Tonkotsu Ramen ($16) - 2.5 stars: What a good deal! But very underwhelming in taste, do not order.* Daruma Roll ($23) - 4 stars: Tasty and fresh! More mild tasting, but really good. Liked the jalapeno and tobiko added a nice crunch.* Lion King Roll ($18) - 3.5 stars: I'm just not a big fan of cooked sushi because the salmon generally isn't tender, good if you like baked rolls?

The garlic edamame is the best I ever had! Plus, the 49'er roll and spider roll were sublime. We tried the refreshing sake flight too and that's the only thing I don't recommend.
