Came here for a quick but delicious dinner solo. First off the food is FRESH & QUICK. I ordered the Siu Mai, BBQ Pork Buns and steam chive dumplings. The Siu Mai and dumplings were outstanding. They came out hot and steaming. Pork buns were good but nothing impressive. For the 3 orders of food and a sparkling water it was around $24, which now a days seems rather cheap. The inside is small with a few tables and chairs. It is not a fancy sit down place, more so like a casual eatery with options to-go. Overall, if I am craving dim sum in the Alameda area I'll be coming back here for an affordable, quick and fresh meal!

So, I've been curious about this place because I wanted to see how Dim Sum Best of Taste compared to our local dim sum takeout-only spot. Their menu for dim sum is relatively small, but I think it's a good thing when restaurants focus on a few selected items. Generally, to me that means that they should have perfected these few dishes. This place is quite small. They have a few counter seats near the window, two tables for 4, and one for 2. We opted to dine-in since we only wanted to try a few things. Ordering and payment is made at the counter first and food is served fresh and hot when ready. Between my partner and I, we shared:1. Black Bean Sauce Chicken Feet - We were both pleasantly surprised by this first dish they served. The chicken feet were not overcooked, steamed just right. They were very gelatinous and the black bean sauce made them mildly sweet. This was my favorite of all the things we've ordered. 2. Lotus Leaf Sticky Rice with Chicken - Their filling is proportioned to the amount of rice in there. Their rice was very sticky. I like that the ingredients were not chopped too small so you get more mouth feel, but I think the flavor was more on the mild side. This was a nice, filling, and comforting dim sum dish.3. Deep-fried Pork Dumpling - These were chewy, mochi-like on the outside. Both savory and mildly sweet at the same time. 4. Pan fried Veggie & Pork Bun - I was looking forward to this dish the most. The filling is cooked perfectly. The bao itself was very soft and fluffy, and the baos also had a very thin crispy outer layer. However, even though it's good, there's just so much oil glistening on the outside, it was a little off-putting to me. Overall, a pretty decent meal. I found it quite interesting how they have a charge of $2 per person for tea. I guess it's similar to any other dim sum tea house you'd go to, but they're not a full-on tea house. There's only a few tables for people to sit down and enjoy their meal in-person, so I'm guessing they get quite a lot of takeout orders. It seems like a self-service place with the trash can placement. I feel like I should be bussing my own table, but there's also no bins to put our used plates and steamer baskets. They also have a lot of milk tea options (half their menu). Maybe it's more of a milk tea and snack place? The mix of different concepts is unique and interesting. Although I'm glad I gave this place a try, I'm also left a little confused about what this place is supposed to be. That being said, I wouldn't mind coming back to try a few other dishes from this place.

Tried this spot for the first time today and it was pretty decent for a quick lunch! Obvs it's not the same experience as going to yum cha at a dim sum restaurant, but all the food was good and came out nice and hot. Service was also super fast, and you can see them cooking baskets of dimsum from the window into the kitchen! There wasn't a huge selection of dim sum, but we got all the essentials like ha gow, siu mai, sticky rice, chicken feet, and spareribs. I especially liked the ha gow, turnip cake, and bbq pork bun in particular. The turnip cake was nice and crispy on the outside and super soft on the inside, just the way I like it. We also got milk tea and mango sago. The milk tea had an interesting flavor that I couldn't quite place - maybe evaporated milk? It was not my fave. The mango sago was nice and sweet.Overall would come back if we wanted take out or a quick lunch!

Dim Sum Best of Taste opened where Orchid Pavillon was. Indoor seating just 3 tables & a counter by window. Decor white walls with some furnishings. Quick service by male wearing plastic gloves. Obviously making dim sim in back. Eats ready in minutes. Offerings: food-steamed/pan fried/fried dim sum, boba-milk/fruit/special tea, smoothies, add ons..Bites: Portuguese egg tarts (3/6.49)-decent size, firm texture ala flan. Rich eggy tasting filling. Nicely baked crust. Definitely amongst best eaten. Traveled well.Shrimp steamed dumplings (4/6.49)-outer wrap too thick/doughy. Lotsa shrimp fillings. Slightly flavorful, otherwise bland. Adding soy sauce no help. No doubt farm raised shrimp utilized. 4ish stars too drafty inside. Doors open. Tarts traveled well. Dumplings didn't lose flavor it didn't have. Pricing of all dim sum very similar. Lack of seating makes grab n go a necessity.

Quick spot for fast dim sum takeout or to eat there casually at their window stool seating or handful of tables inside or outside.Prices are higher than other dim sum takeout spots in nearby Oakland or San Leandro. Most dim sum is currently $6.50 for 3 to 4 pieces. Quality and taste is comparable to about the same. I tried siu mai (steamed pork dumplings), har kow (steamed shrimp dumplings), and the Portuguese egg tarts. This spot is located on Webster, next to Alameda Pizza.

Review for the Portuguese Egg tarts! These egg tarts are so decadently delicious: creamy, vanilla custard with a flaky and buttery crust...and not too sweet! Have to say one of the best in the area and better than a popular spot in Oakland Chinatown. Dim Sum Best Taste offers boba, milk teas, fruit teas and smoothies and a few dim sum items:STEAMED:Soup dumplings, har gaow (shrimp dumpling), siu mai (pork dumpling), Chinese black bean spareribs, chicken feetPAN/DEEP FRIED:Pan fried pork buns, pot stickers , egg rolls, sesame ballsA couple of tables but set up for take-out. Located on Webster in Alameda. Plenty of metered street parking. Pricing a bit higher than Chinatown but these Portuguese Egg Tarts are addictive and a repeat item. Thanks sis for introducing me to these treats!

Date: 11/1/2024 Time: 1:40 PM 61° SunnyIt's the first of the month, and I had errands to run (bill paying time). By the time I was through taking care of business at Alameda Landing, I was hungry. Nope, I did not want Jollibee, The Habit Grill or Ono Hawaiian BBQ.I remember getting a message from a fellow yelper, Steve D, mentioning Dim Sum Best of Taste. I boarded the 96 bus and walked over to Dim Sum. The menu is taped to the front door. Dim Sum The Best of Taste is a family owned business. The chef at this restaurant has about 40 years of culinary experience in preparing dim sum. Very impressive!Perusing the menu, it took me a little while to decide what I wanted to eat. So many choices, so little time. Eats: shrimp dumplings (4 piece), egg tarts (3) and turnip cake (3). The shrimp dumplings were plump with shrimp and delicious, and the dough was not chewy, delicate and prepared to perfection. Wow! The egg tarts with its flakey, crispy crust and melt in the mouth egg custard were indeed to my heart's delight. I haven't had turnip cakes in so many years. I have forgotten how much I enjoyed them in a restaurant near Civic Center in SF.Beverage: taro milk tea without sugar. Refreshing, but I do miss the grass jelly or boba.Service was very good. Wait time for my pastries was not long. Employees were friendly and helpful. I even spoke some Cantonese with the male employee who assisted in packing my leftover dim sum.Small restaurant with seating capacity of about 12 people. Ambiance is a quiet, casual and comfy place to dine in. Definitely a return visit to have the siu mai and the black bean spareribs.Dine in or take out. It is all good!

Overview: No frills dim sum place, solid food, convienient but less variety than the bigger dim sum places----Price: Most items are $6.49 with a few being $5.99. This is around the same prices of Pacific Lighthouse (their large dishes are $6.85), and quite a bit cheaper than East Ocean (their large dishes are $8.95). That being said, dim sum in general has been getting more expensive nowadays. ----What we ordered:Dishes for $6.49:- Black Bean Chicken Feet (4 pcs)- Shrimp Dumplings (4 pcs)- Siu Mai (4 pcs)- Pan-Fried Chive Dumplings (3 pcs) - NOTE: different from traditional versions, these ones do not have shrimp, and are instead more similar to pot stickers with a mixed meat filling, maybe chicken or pork, in a potsticker wrapper.- Chicken Potstickers (3 pcs)- Portuguese Egg Tarts (3 pcs)- Garlic Steamed Pork RibsDishes for $5.99- Turnip Cakes (3 pcs)- Sesame Balls (3 pcs)The taste of the dishes are all on par to the other dim sum spots in Alameda. My favorites were the Portuguese Egg Tarts and the Sesame Balls. The creamy, slightly sweet egg custard contrasts nicely with the light, flakey crust. The sesame balls were huge with a crispy exterior and a soft, chewy interior filled with either red bean or lotus paste.----We came at 11:30am on a Saturday and there was no wait! While there is less variety than other places, they're a lot faster and friendlier than traditional cart-style dim sum restaurants. Parking can be tough on Webster Street with street parking, but we found parking in the surrounding residential areas and walked. Seating:- A couple two-seaters outside- 3 window seats inside- 2 four-seaters and 1 two-seater inside----Drinks:- Milk teas $4.75- Fruit teas $5.75- Smoothies (all with cheese cream) $4.25-4.75- Coffee $4.75- Signature drinks (Mango Pomelo Sago, Signature Fruit Tea, Matcha Latte) $5.75Toppings $0.50 each:- Boba- Crystal Boba- Lychee Jelly Extra:- Cheese Cream $1All drinks are 16oz. with adjustable sweetness and ice levels. I like their slightly savory cheese cream that balances out the sweetness of the drinks, I enjoyed both the strawberry smoothie and the peach one. **They have a promotion going on right now, if you buy $20 worth of food, you can get a drink for $1! (Does NOT include mango sago, matcha, or coffee drinks.)**----Overall: A convenient spot to satisfy dim sum cravings without the wait or crowds, great for quick eats or grabbing food to-go, fast and friendly service makes up for their smalller menu

1540 Webster St Alameda, CA 94501"Dim Sum Best in Taste" is a small casual cafe that serves dim sum, fruit teas, milk teas, and smoothies. It takes over the location of Orchid Pavillion, near Webster St & Lincoln Ave (and next door to Alameda Pizza). I discovered this place while flipping thru my Yelp activity log. It said "Opens 10am Saturday." OMG! I must get out of bed and try this new dim sum cafe! So I drove 1.5-miles up to Alameda's Webster Street, found parking, and headed to the cafe. A Yelp Review is a consumer experience. I decided to try a few favorites w/ hot tea. - Siu Mai, 4-pcs, $6.49- Egg Tarts, 3-pcs, $6.49- Steamed Pork Ribs w/ Garlic, $6.49- Hot Tea, $2.00The food came out fast. The hot tea took awhile, so they gave me free ice water while I waited. The Siu Mai and Pork Ribs were lightly seasoned. A splash of soy sauce made it taste just right. OMG, the egg tarts were good! The crust was delicately flaky and crisp. The filling was delicious. I was told their dim sum chef has 40-years of experience. Everything is made on-site. Interior has three tables and a bar at the window. Street parking, and there's a public lot a block away. No restroom.
