Solid place to get Indian food in Palo Alto. We came for a weekday lunch and they have a buffet with good selection. The food was tasty and I really enjoyed it. We paid $41.36 (tax and tip included) for 2 people. There wasn't too many people when we came so we were seated quickly and the waiters cleared our finished plates fast. They also provide complimentary nan which I appreciate. Also at the buffet they have a variety of different sized plates, which is nice so you can get as little or as much as you want at the buffet. The interior is has many Indian decorations which makes the restaurant feel lively. There's also many tables to sit at inside.Parking: Downtown Palo Alto has many garages, so we don't find parking difficult here at all. We parked at one nearby and walked over.

My recent takeout experience at Darbar in Palo Alto left a lot to be desired. While it was busy on a weekend evening, which is understandable, the overall quality of the food fell short. There's only indoor seating available, so keep that in mind if you're looking for an outdoor dining option. My takeout order took a significant amount of time to be prepared - around 40 minutes.Masala Chai: This was a major letdown. It was watery and lacked the typical sweetness and robust spice profile of a good masala chai.Aloo Tikki: This was a complete waste of money. It was essentially just plain potato chunks, lacking any seasoning or traditional aloo tikki ingredients. The absence of chutney and the wrong texture made it a confusing dish. I'm not sure why it's even offered on the menu.Masala Dosa: This was the only saving grace. The dosa itself was decent, and the sambar had a good savory flavor. However, it only came with a sweet and spicy chutney and was missing the classic coconut chutney that typically accompanies a masala dosa (no big deal because every place does it differently).Overall, Darbar gets 2 stars from me. The long wait time for takeout and the disappointing quality of several dishes were major drawbacks. There are better Indian food options in Palo Alto that offer a more complete and satisfying experience.

My coworkers and I came here for lunch on a Wednesday midday. It wasn't very busy, and we were seated upon arrival. Food:For lunch, they have the lunch buffet with a good variety of curries and dishes. The cauliflower they had on the buffet line was my favorite item. You are given some naan at the table, but the naan is not unlimited. You get a basket or two of naan depending on your party size. We were four people so we got two baskets. Service:Service was pretty quick. We were seated and given some naan. Then you have at it at the buffet. Once done, you can pay at the front. TL;DR - great lunch option in the area, wish I got more naan

Friday night dinner choice Kheema Masala Dosa, lamb crepe delicious spiced pancake with sambar. This southern Indian restaurant service was exceptional. The place was busy but never felt rushed. Street parking might be a challenge but worth it.

We dropped in to Darbar for a Saturday evening dinner and were fully impressed. The Interior is pretty straightforward with a couple rows of tables down the middle and along each wall. We were greeted by two very nice women upon entering, and shown to our table. The place was completely full by the time we left. The menu is pretty extensive and caters to vegetarian and non-vegetarians alike. We decided to have the non-vegetarian dinner which is a selection of items (both veg and non-veg) that come out together on a tray. From the menu: Lamb Curry, Butter Chicken, Malai Kofta, Lamb Samosa, Pakora, Rice, Dal, Naan, Papad, Raita, Chutney, KheerNeedless to say, this was a whole lot of food! And a great deal....we could have split one meal... but of course did not...LOLEverything was exceptionally prepared and flavorful. Service was excellent and friendly throughout the night. This is a great place to enjoy some really good Indian food.

Darbar consistently has delicious take out and the food holds up really well via Doordash. We usually order:Palak paneer - creamy spinach base with cheese cubes; well seasoned and spiced!Butter chicken - delicious strips of dark chicken meat in a creamy tangy sauce. The sauce is soo good on rice or with naan. Curry chicken - this is one of our favorite chicken curry dishes around this area!Samosa - love the tamarind chutney!
