I finally found it after walking around. It was not a store front. It was just a booth. I wouldn't able to locate it without the sign. It was located inside a farmers market. I got the rebel within, chocolate chip and matcha snickerdoodle cookies. Out of the 3, the chocolate was the best. I couldn't taste the matcha since the lemon flavor overpowered it. The rebel within was okay.

This is not an actual store it's just a pop up at the Palo Alto farmers market on the weekends! I was hoping to run into Emily Mariko while I was here and though I didn't, I did see that they had the rebel within and had to try one of these infamous muffins.Pretty good, but I would recommend it warmed up for sure. The egg was absolute perfection and the salt that it came with was super fun but the cornbread muffin itself was okay for me. They have a ton of other yummy looking baked goods though, I'll try and stop by another time!

Craftsman and wolves was not as good at the farmers market as it is in SF. I got the rebel within. And the seasonal kouign aman. Both were good flavor wise however I feel like it was not as fresh as it could be. There was so many pastries here and I wanted to try them all. It will definitely have to be back to try them all but will most likely hold off until I get to San Francisco location.

I've been wanting to try "The Rebel Within" for a while now and saw that they were on Locale! I ordered:1. The Rebel Within2. Japanese Milk Bread3. Croissant pudding special Everything I ordered was tasty! I especially liked how fluffy the Japanese milk bread was, how the croissant pudding seemed just as good as my favorite bread puddings, and how decadent and savory the rebel within was!

If you live in Palo Alto, don't miss out on getting these amazing pastries at the farmer's market! Although they are famous for their Rebel Within, I actually enjoyed a lot of their other pastries a lot more! The havartadelli croissant (ham and cheese) is super flaky and the sauce inside really enhances the flavor! Their seasonal mistress truffle croissant stack and xiaolongbao croissants are amazing with runny egg in the middle - highly recommend warming them up at 350 F for 5 mins. Their morning bun is also super delicious and flaky, not too sweet - again, recommend warming it up. Be sure to place your orders online to skip the line and not miss out on the ones that get sold out quickly!

Summary: Their offerings do live up to the hype! For those of us that live in the Peninsula/South Bay, you do not have to trek up to The City as long as you can wait patiently until a Sunday morning. That is because C&W is at the California Avenue Farmer's Market in Palo Alto on that day! You can preorder on their website or purchase what is available at their kiosk. The Rebel Within was delicious after being reheated per their website. We also tried the following: Egan's Addiction, Chai Lemon Ricotta muffin, Morning Bun, and Impossibly Bulgogi Scone. All were delicious! We definitely plan on going back on another weekend to try their Crx Loaf and Crx Pudding!

As for ambiance, it's located in farmers market at the Palo Alto location, there's no sitting C&W, but plenty of sitting areas around the market. The service is typical of a farmers market, the staff is welcoming. I purchased the Rebel within and the ham & havarti cheese croissant, the Rebel within was pretty good and will buy it again...:) , the ham & havarti cheese croissant it's another story, that is the croissant pastry is well made , there's ham in it, but, where's the cheese? To my disappointment It was absent, felt more like a ham only croissant, hence taking a star off. I would definitely come back for another Rebel within and to try their other pastries...:)

~ L O C A T I O N ~ Cal Ave Farmers Market, which can be a little crowded! Very nondescript black canopy stall on the same side as Izzy's/Joanie's with a fancy display case. There often is a line!~ S E R V I C E ~They cannot warm up items for you, so you purchase the items to take home and warm up at home. They sell out FAST. And they have weekend specials! If you have the foresight, I highly recommend pre-ordering!~ F O O D / P A S T R I E S ~Ham and Cheese Croissant $5Make sure to toast it when you get home! The lamination is great! And the ham is very high quality. The Rebel Within $8.50The cost of this little muffin is almost inhibitory but it's worth it! Don't let the price tag scare you away. This is one impressive muffin! Make sure to warm it up! THIS IS A MUST because the egg inside is soft-boiled and then refrigerated so its cold inside. You want to warm it up so the runny egg is warm! Preheat oven to around 400-450F and pop this little guy in for 5 minutes! Then cut it down the middle and watch that golden yolk runnnnnnnnn! This is served with tabasco salt that's packaged in a 1.5 mL microcentrifuge tube! Don't forget about it! The salt is a great pairing with the egg! The muffin is delectably moist and has a delicious caramelized onion flavor! This is the scotch egg of baked goods!~ O V E R A L L ~Pricy, pricy! But to be honest its worth it. Very instagrammable and very delicious lololol. Some places aren't worth it, but this place is! I will be back to try the kouign amanns!

COVID reviewThis is a SF bakery but you can order online and pickup on Sunday in Palo Alto's farmers market. Super smart move for the South Bayers! So I did just that with 3 items, the Rebel Within, CRX pudding (just for weekends) and Cocoa carrot muffin. It was such a joy when I cut open the Rebel and the egg yolk oozes out! It's just perfect! When I picked up my items, they were all cold and I asked instructions in case I wanted to heat them up. In the end I didn't. I was told to put it in 415F for 8 minutes. Felt a hassle to spend so much time preheat the oven and warm it for so short time. But if I did that the egg might be fully cooked. As my friend told me she didn't get a soft yolk in her SF store visit. So really happy overall! CRX Pudding - it's so soft and silky inside and tastes good! But I just can't tell what's inside. Cocoa carrot muffin: I like it not sweet with enough cocoa flavor! Well, can't find the carrot but still very satisfied with the not-so-sweet flavor. Overall a big thumbs up!

TLDR: Solid pastries. "The Rebel Within" just get it.**NOTE** This location is a booth at the Palo Alto Farmer's Market SATURDAY ONLY. You can order online ahead of time and pickup here, or go and see what's still available. Food:(4.7/5) The Rebel Within (soft boiled egg thing): GREAT. The star of the show. A really strong ham/cheese muffing. Strong additional green onion/savory flavors. The base would make a really great scone/muffin on its own. The perfectly soft-boiled egg takes it to another level! The yolk was perfectly jelly and added extra richness. A full breakfast in muffin form. It's pretty heavy, and could carry you through the morning. Great idea. Great execution.(4.0/5) BlackBerry Almond Muffin: A dense, moist, flavorful muffin. Large chunks of blackberry mixed in. Very fruit forward without being too sweet. Nice crumbly, sugary, chunks on top were a bonus. (3.9/5) Kouign Amman (Nectarine filling): An interesting step up from your standard KA. A HUGE amount of nectarine filling. Not too tart/sweet. Like a homemade nectarine jam stuffed inside. Great cross-section and filling/pastry ratio. The filling could have been even more Nectarine forward, but still very good.(3.0/5) Croissant Pudding (Saturday/Sunday only): A standard bread pudding-type dessert made with croissants instead of bread. This added even more buttery richness, but looses the croissants' signature layering and textures. It's definitely tasty, but not mind-blowing. (2.0/5) Dark Chocolate Croissant: SKIP. Worse than a standard croissant. It had great layering/lamination. Well baked, with a great dark chocolate color. But the flavor didn't come through. Not enough sweetness to counter the dark chocolate's bitterness. The bites with actual chocolate chunks were pretty good. Though, a standard croissant would have been a better play.Other: - Best to order online beforehand. Pickup time doesn't matter. Your order will already be packaged when you arrive.- They sell out of "The Rebel Within" pretty quickly.
