My friends and I came here for dinner on a Friday evening. Parking in this plaza is pretty tight. We luckily found parking, but I can see the lot being completely full during busy times. Food:This restaurant has vegetarian versions of many common com tam plates, which was very exciting for me. I ordered the vegetarian com tam combo plate and the vegetarian nem nuong rolls. Both items came with vegetarian sauces made with veggie fish sauce. They were both great. My friends ordered the main combo plate and enjoyed their food. Service:Service was quick. We were seated immediately upon arrival. Our food came promptly after ordering. TL;DR - Give me all the vegetarian com tam

I've been coming to Com Tam since I was a kid! My parents would always order takeout from them whenever we were in SJ. I always loved their Com Tam / rice plates. The restaurant is in a busy plaza with limited parking so we would always order takeout. Many years later, I finally came to eat in-person.I ordered #11 which included bbq pork & fried shrimp cake. My friend ordered #1 special rice combination which came with a wide assortment of options: broiled meatballs, fried shrimp cake, shredded pork skin, egg cake, bbq shrimp, and grilled shrimp meat on sugarcane. I was a bit disappointed by my #11's portion size - especially by the size of the bbq pork but everything still tasted yummy. I would definitely spring for a large combo platter such as #1 next time. The restaurant had several parties enjoying their late weekend lunches. Service was fast and they came out with small bowls of delicious green onion soup first.

My dad said this place serves the best com tam in San Jose and I agree!! Everything was well seasoned, fresh, and fairly priced. Each rice plate comes with fish sauce for dipping (add some chili sauce for the perfect kick) and broth. The service is fast and the restaurant is very clean.

I'm surprised this spot isn't that crowded because it should be! This restaurant serves authentic Vietnamese rice plates. Each plate is loaded and you can get any combo you want. There are so many combinations on the menu, so pick whatever you like. The meat is super flavorful and everything else is so delicious. Everything is made in house. Staff is super friendly and can help you order whatever items you want.

When I lived in the Bay 10+ yers ago, I would make a concerted effort to eat here if I happen to be in the area because it was that good. On a recent visit, I was glad to see that not much has changed.I ordered the #3 which is Cơm Tấm Sườn Nướng, Tàu Hủ Ky, Bì, Chả, Tôm Nướng, Chào Tôm which is one of their combination specials. It includes quite literally everything and roughly translates to: rice with a BBQ pork chop, fried shrimp cake, shredded pork skin, egg cake, BBQ shrimp, and grilled shrimp meat on a sugarcane. It's one of their greatest hits entrees and well worth the price at $22.50.Every single component of my entree was well executed. The BBQ pork chop + shrimp were BBQing. The fried shrimp cake was frying and grilled shrimp on sugarcane was grilling. And proportionally, each item in this combination platter was substantial - no skimping in these parts. Personally, I think the most important player of this platter is the tàu hủ ky which is the fried shrimp cake. I've encountered plenty of dry, overly peppered versions and most places aren't generous with their portions. But the tàu hủ ky here was perfection. It was plump, meaty, and had the perfect amount pepper. If you love cơm tấm the way I do, this place is well worth the visit.

*Parking: Located in a plaza so parking was relatively easy and free *Experience: Waiter mainly spoke Vietnamese but you can just say the number of the item you want. Friendly and quick service! I did have some concerns about the health ratings here due to reading other reviews but we didn't run into any issues asides from maybe some hygiene etiquette required for the guy in the counter who was blatantly picking his teeth. I pray that he washed his hands before making the coffee. But I guess you didn't really go to a true local Vietnamese restaurant until you have some fears about hygiene. *Food: We got the #2 com tam thit nuong combo plate which comes with grilled pork, shredded pork skin, egg meat loaf, and 3 different types of shrimp. The combo also comes with a dome of broken rice and a side of soup. We also ordered an extra side of soup and the pork spring rolls (nem cuon). I shared this with my husband and we were stuffed. We actually didn't even finish one of the spring rolls and had to pack it to-go. Coming from LA, this is the closest thing we can find in SJ that's actually not bad in terms of quality and quantity. Everything was pretty solid and cravings were satisfied!

The food was amazing! The owner and staff were super friendly. We had the grilled pork and shrimp vermicelli bowl which was our favorite. We also got the shake beef and the soup. We all cleaned our plates and will be back soon.

Tried and true spot for rice plates. They have any combination you can possibly want and if it's not on the menu, you can customize your own plate. Everything tastes authentic and very generous portion. Only downside is the parking lot, so plan accordingly or do take out.

I'm not going to lie. I had a large cup of Dunkin' Lava Cake Iced Coffee that's going on for a limited time before this. I've been going here since '94. This place is timeliness, traditional, nostalgic, classic, and old fashioned. This is one of those things that never changed, everything is the same. The only thing changed was the ceiling Crown Moulding and newer Granite tables, but that's it. It's like taking a step back in time, but in a good way. I had a lot of memories here as a kid, I grew up in this neighborhood. I noticed how there's another Dry Cleaners and professional Alteration Shop, another Doughnut Shop, and the same Café you might've seen on the ten o'clock news 9 years ago in this Plaza. There's some memories I slightly want to erase, but a lot of memories I want to keep here. It was here or Vung Tau Restaurant, Nha Trang Restaurant, Cao Nguyên Restaurant, Han Kee 2 Restaurant, or Danh's Garden every weekend for years upon years. A lot of things went down there. This was a mandatory stop everytime I went to Senter Foods. And I also have some personal history, at Lẩu Hải Sản. Some people out there said 14 years ago, that the Cơm Tấm in Orange County was better than this. I disagree, this is the most standard, back to basic, and most consistent Cơm Tấm around. And there's nothing that compares to the original location, for historical significance. This should be the benchmark. I didn't have something to say about that up until now. It remains undefeated, all these years. And I remember, this used to be one of the only Cơm Tấm spots that did Củ Kiệu or pickled White Scallions or Leeks. I like Củ Kiệu as much as Capers, Kim Chi, Giardiniera, blistered Shishito pepper, Sautéed Bell Pepper, Fried Serrano pepper, pickled White Asparagus, pickled Jalapeño, Sauerkraut, and preserved Plum. This is a Cơm Tấm Sườn Bò Đại Hàn or Korean Beef BBQ with fried Green Scallion. This is the good stuff. They say what it really comes down to at the end of the day, is how good the Nước Mắm Pha or Sauce is. I haven't had this in 14 years, this is like my first time after a very long time. The Korean Rib was juicy, Beefy, there was a very good Char on it, and it came sizzling hot off the Grill. The Củ Kiệu hit the spot, like always and everytime. I was thinking this was going to be a 3.9-4.1 stars, but I give this 4.2-4.3 stars. It was very good.
