Stopped in here before a concert at the civic center. They were out of the Chardonnay and the bourbon we intended to order. Luckily we chose back up options. The space is quite small, no music, and the basketball game on tv. The bartender was Oscar who was very attentive and friendly. I always feel bad for servers working in a what seems to be an unprepared bar for them to work in. His service was great and he was doing the best with the environment created for him. We ended up ordering the red blend wine and an old fashioned. My husband said the drink wasn't too strong. No complaints about the wine. I probably wouldn't return as a San Jose local, but could see it being a good place before a concert at the civic center. Total for 2 drinks was $48 with tip, so if you're looking for an affordable drink it's not here.

Pros: Good guacamole, fat salty chips. Salsa is watery but good for heat. Atypical spot with glass walls for people watching. Not overly bright. Spacious. Good location, if you like downtown. Huge selection of dad beers (domestics). What could be improved: dim the overhead lighting, add some mood music, add more menu items, and deactivate the Yelp check in offer if you're not going to honor it.

I usually go out whenever I'm in San Jose but this time I didn't feel like leaving my hotel. The guacamole was good and the chicken quesadilla was a really great size. I went when it wasn't busy but after about an hour or so people are starting flooding in. There were only about 2 servers inside: one at the bar and the other floating around and delivering food so service was a little slow but understandable with so many people inside. It's sort of felt like a sports bar, very casual and can get pretty loud. Menu was minimal but the food isn't disappointing. Ie. I realized they no longer had ceviche and their salsa was actually just pico de gallo

My first time eating here since it became Cobre & Clay. I came right when they opened. I ordered the Birria Tacos! So tasty! It came with 3 tortillas and the birria meat in a bowl and it was a good amount! Good service! I asked the bartender (Oscar) his opinion of the birria tacos and he recommend to try it. Glad I did! I'll try the costillas next time lol... I liked the open area of the cantina. There's lots of light coming in from all the windows and doors and they have good music playing. It's at the corner of the street, connected to the Marriott hotel, and you can see Cesar Chavez Park. Overall yummy!!

Everyone needs to know this place is trash. So mad they have 4 stars. It is so misleading. It's overpriced for the most basic, mediocre Mexican food. The service is slow since the bartender manages the whole bar/restaurant. It's just not worth it! Save your self a trip and just skip it!

Busy night.. but no excuse for not having enough staff knowing there is an event. Sadly I don't think I'll want to come back

I'm picky when it comes to my chilaquiles. The salsa needs to be super flavorful, the tortilla chips have to stay crisp, cheesy. It's the perfect combo to the rich flavor of an over easy egg. Cobre and Clay's chilaquiles just hit the spot! Serving it on a skillet is genius! I could have this every day! Definitely coming back just for this perfection!

My friends were exploring the downtown area before we went to a nearby event and ran into Cobre & Clay, we wanted a small bite to eat before a long day so we decided to stop by and check what they had. I ended up ordering the chips and guac and they were delicious, well worth the price and the service was excellent and prompt. The cocktail menu looked good as well and we will probably be back to check out other things on their menu :)

The waitress asked for my credit card to open a tab. She charged $50 without telling me. Then we got an additional check on top of this. When I called later to ask about the $50 charges she said it was a waitress fee for her and she hung up on me. Beware! Don't get scammed by coming here!!

We came into Cobre and clay while in the downtown area for Sunday brunch. The Benedict was delicious very filling, the mango added a lovely freshness, we also had the chips guacamole and salsa. My daughter thought the guacamole was amazing she ate the whole bowl!Service was top notch they checked on us made sure food was to our liking and that we had all we needed. Oscar and Angelo did a good job serving us. The restaurant has fun music and nice big windows for people watching.
