We are very lucky to have authentic Nepalese and Indian food here in Grand area.I know my Nepalese friends tell me that a lot of their favorites are in North Berk or Albany area, but wait til you eat at Bayleaf. The gentleman who is always at the front is the most kind and welcoming individual. Service is an art. I ordered for pickup, and he also gave me some free potato samosas with my order. I had their steamed chicken momos and naan. I liked their regular naan more than the garlic, which surprised me. Momos are just like the delicious cousin to East Asian dumplings, so they're always so comforting. In typical Nepalese and Indian fashion, the dips are so flavorful and bursting with life. Colors from red to green and orange! I know my burps gon' be tasty for a whole day after eating Bayleaf. Support local y'all. They also have a neon-y interior/dark element vibe, and they're open on most holidays. They were open on Christmas and they have lots of space indoors for large parties.

I have only ordered Bayleaf as takeout, and have to say, it's one of the best Indian/Himalayan food I've had in Oakland. I ordered the chicken biryani and dhal makhani, and wish I ordered more. Regarding service, the staff was attentive with my order, however, I did not dine in, so cannot speak to dining service. The ambiance seemed calm and clean, but again, will have to assess when I dine in.Dhal makhani was velvety, smooth and very tasty, and the biryani had a kick of spice and was extremely well seasoned. I loved the authentic flavors of both dishes and can't wait to return with friends to try more dishes, especially the Indo-Chinese dishes like Manchurian and chow mein.

Excellent service. Very kind and patient staff who always remembers me and is still so very nice. They know what I love and can tell me my order. They also have gently encouraged other menu items. Amazing. This is a lovely place to dine solo or bring many friends. The momo's are remarkably addictive. There are vegan items. There are gluten free items.

I ordered veg samosas and chicken momo for lunch, and a few dishes to go for dinner (chicken tikka, dal tadka, butter paneer, and samosas). Everything was delicious and full of spice! The wait staff was very nice. I'll definitely come back.

Very nice staff and great service. This place is huge, so it can get a bit cold in here as an fyi. The ambiance could be improved and I have some ideas, but I imagine it's so costly to take over this space. The food tastes very homey and friend said it's the best naan she's ever had (and we have been to so many Indian food spots). The garlic naan smelled incredible. The menu is big, plenty to choose from. The veggie korma is comforting and tbh the chana masala was not my favorite (but not bad at all). The portions here are huge, rare now a days. Price point is good. Recommend for a homemade, cozy meal.

I've tried Bayleaf twice now, and both times I really enjoyed our meals. For starters, of course, we tried the Chicken Steam Momos - I thought they were solid, but some in my party thought they were only so-so. But who doesn't love dumplings? We also really enjoyed the Kale Chat, but make sure you toss it thoroughly before eating. The Indian entrees were where I thought Bayleaf really shined. On the vegetable side, we really liked the Daal Makhani, the Daal Tadka and Bangui Bharta. The first two were not spicy, but the Bangui Bharta was. For the meat dishes, I really appreciated that they used chicken dark meat in many of their dishes, like the Butter Chicken and Chicken Saag. I like a lot of sauce to dip my naan in, so the Butter Chicken worked better for me. The Chicken Vindaloo was not dark meat and was spicy, and others in my group like it.We had the butter naan both times, which was really good. The naan was crispy but not too crispy, and had the right amount of charring. And I tried an Indian beer - the Gorka Lager - a medium lager which really went well with the Indian food (but all beer probably does).A word about spiciness. Bayleaf was very good at accommodating different spice levels. I can't eat spicy food at all, and the kitchen was able to make the Butter Chicken and Chicken Saag without spiciness (but still flavorful). And they were able to turn up the spice levels on other dishes for others in my party.Overall, the restaurant is very clean, well lit and still very new. The service was very attentive and helpful. Both times we went on weeknights, and the restaurant was pretty empty. There is a public metered lot to the right of and behind the restaurant, which makes parking convenient.I'm not South Asian, so I can't comment on the authenticity of the recipes, but I can say my party has all enjoyed our meals at Bayleaf. Highly recommended!

I've come in here previously and had great korma. This time I tried the butter chicken lunch and was equally good. Good value and prompt service

Food was OK, but strangely not particularly memorable. The service was polite and prompt, and dishes were nicely presented, but had no particular accents or flavors. The food wasn't flavorless, but be aware that all dishes seemed particularly mild including in the spicy category. Mild was non-spicy and medium was mild spice present. Chicken and fish dishes were on the dry side. The space is nice and not much changed from original Greek restaurant that preceded Bayleaf. Removing the center divide wall opened up the space nicely however.

I was really looking forward to trying Bayleaf, based on Yelp and Reddit reviews.I ordered Aloo Saag and Prawn Curry. I asked for them to be medium spicy (they had choices on door dash). 1. The Aloo Saag was some of the blandest Indian food I've ever had and thus no spice at all.2. The Prawn Curry had a hint of spiciness. However the prawns were over cooked and mushy.Would not recommended
