Such a blessing to have an Indian snack food place so close to home!We usually drive to Fremont for evening tea time snacks like Pakoras( fritters) and samosas. But the cook here knows how to make really tasty snacks. The mix veg pakoras are always crispy and flavorful. Their chaat is also very good. With the weather turning cold and rainy this is the place to go get some piping hot Indian street food. It's an Indian grocery store so seating is limited. They just have one large table, so that's something to keep in mind. But the yummy food and free chai make it worthwhile .

A well organized store with the essential Indian groceries. They have a selection of frozen food and a freshly prepared food counter as well. Their items seems to be reasonably priced in comparison with others I've seen. We stopped by to pick up a few items but ended up buying many more after viewing the selection here. We were encouraged to buy some of the freshly prepared food after sampling some of their offerings. The gentleman at the checkout counter(Mr.Jasmeet) was extremely helpful asked us if we wanted rotis and then proceeded to have fresh rotis made for our order. They also take catering orders. We're glad we stopped by and found a new local store!

Love this store! They got all your essentials. The vibe is the store is nice and it is well organized. I wish I got pictures to show. The staff is welcoming to the point that I got offered a cup of chai while shopping & not only was it yummy but they were persistent on having me try different products (not in a pushy way but genuinely just inviting) and it definitely made me want to come back. Any Asian/Indian groceries needed this is my spot for sure.*from July 2023

Came here for peanuts and garlic to make roasted peanuts. Also wanted to get a Maggi Hot & Sweet Tomato Chilli (spelled this way) Sauce and got the 1kg bottle of the good stuff. Apparently, it comes in only one size. We were about to check-out when the gentleman I asked where the hot sauce was followed up with me if I found it. When I told him affirmative, he pointed to a Nando's Peri-Peri Medium Sauce. Said it was really good and I won't regret it. That's a really good salesperson right there. He informed me to tell him my thoughts on the sauce next time I visit. I think I will. It was priced at $2.99, way cheaper than Wal-Mart and Safeway.

New Indian Grocery and Cafe along Jackson thru Hayward to Highway 92/880. This new place took over Crossroads International Market which has since re-located to Castro Valley.Grocery has a variety of spices, grocery, frozen items, small produce with a cafe. I pass this area often so decided to try some food from their cafe...food is from their steam table but biryani is made to order. Ordered the following: :: Samosa - fried pastry with spiced potato and peas - pastry was a little thinner than I've had and not quite as crispy - still delicious 3.5:5 :: Vegetable Biryani - cauliflower, potato, carrots, paneer - flavorful and fragrant. Slightly different taste than I'm familiar with (couldn't pinpoint) but it's as tasty - 4/5 :: Curry Chicken from the steam table - mixture of white and dark meat - delicious 4/5 Definitely glad I tried as I love Indian food and have tried many in Berkeley/Hayward/Fremont. I was hoping to get some lamb/goat biryani but it was mentioned they didn't have any that day. The lady that assisted me was friendly, helpful and answered questions. With so many interesting items I mentioned she should offfer cooking demos for the non-natives. if I knew how to use the ingredients I'd definitely shop there. Especially, to make some of my fave Indian desserts: carrot halwa and gulab jamun :)Private lot available for parking

VJ's Indian Grocey & Cafe opens where Crossroads Specialty Foods once was. with the extensive shelving, referigerator units & steam table upgrades, the interior looks smaller than before. grocery section has the usual sections of condiments, produce, frozen meats, rice etc...the steam food only had samosas, veg. & non veg thalis when i went.buys:masala chana spicy roasted grams (chickpeas) 3.69-groceries had price listed, sales tax also charged for grocery. no other Indian does this. receipt doesn't show it. the register did.-pricing is the standard price for this item.eats: veg curry thali (9.99): any 3 veg curries, 2 roti/chapatis, pickle, salad, raita.-choose dal, chana masala, potato & peppers curries, passed on paneertasty, all small portions-got big piece of roti that can easily pass for 2 pieces. soft and fluffy, great for dipping into curries/dal..-didn't get pickle, salad nor raita. got a piece of gulab jamun, a fried dessert soaked in honey. yummy, very sweet. *menu seems to change with what's available, not what's listed.3.5 would have prefer the listed items, they are more healthier than the dessert.take outs:-wasn't offered chai like all the other patrons, didn't see any on display-the non veg thali (12.99) would have been a better value, more curry..-items of steam table not labeled, although it can be visually discerned.-VJ's fills a niche for Indian eateries and groceries in this area....small parking lot.-the steam table probably has different menu for breakfast, lunch, dinner. not posted.

Hate to give One star especially for a new store, Unfortunately it is what it is. All my excitement and 10 mile drive just to try street food evaporated with the food experience i got from them today.Short summary - Over charged , Waited about an hour for 2 butter Naans, Finally got FROZEN Naan that are heated up with no butter applied. Flies/Half closed bathroom next to kitchen/grocery , chaats turned soggy , hot jalebi turned cold - me SMH :( It all started with them charging me extra money for butter naan($3.99 vs $ 2.49 as displayed) , when inquired they tried to shrug but when i showed them the Menu got my money refunded and apologized . Well , its a new store so wasn't much bothered as mistakes like this can happen when you just opened. Then i waited painfully for about an HOUR for my 2 butter Naan's, Once in a while this guy comes and says Brother ,they would be ready soon. The drama continued with other workers/(owners?) etc in the store saying they are making them and would be ready in 5 mins when in fact what's happening is all their workforce is concentrated on Street food stalls outside. In the mean time this guy goes searching for Naan in frozen section, sneaks them into kitchen and when i went to ask for refund , Cashier rushes to the kitchen to pack those heated FROZEN Naans (See pics, I literally buy those tiny frozen Naans from Indian stores for a lazy day) , but forgot to apply Butter , i opened them and asked about it , now shaken as there were customers out there looking at of this drama , took them inside applied some butter and gave them to me. Did I mention not fully closed restroom door /Flies all around next to kitchen and Groceries (jaggery is displayed open right in front of Restroom) - well how can i miss them when I spent a full hour staring at the walls and grocery aisle's. By this time the chaats i bought are soggy, Hot Jalebi turned cold and I am rightfully outraged , Literally out of my energy to even confront them. What was supposedly a exciting street food experience turned into a nightmare and me advocating to all my friends to not bother trying this place. If In hundred years i ever want to go back, I will get their Live jalebi , Chaats and run away (after paying right price) without even entering the store.

Their Chole bhature are the best in the whole Bay Area. Try it once and you can tell the difference. I have ordered it many times and will continue to do so but I have tried their other food items which were just ok. Their naans needs improvement. Not sure what happened but when I took them home and tried to eat them, they were basically stretchy and unchewable. I hope they fix this problem. When eaten in the store, they are very good.
