We ordered:Salted egg tofu - large portion that came with portions of riceSoup dumplings - good with thin skin and lots of soup however disappointing that the order only came with 4 for the price of $14Char siu - decent sized portion with half fatty/lean meat, good seasoning and sweetness on the meatSquid tentacles - large serving and squid was not overcooked/chewy, dish had a nice spicy flavor!Service:Overall pretty good except that they forgot one serving of rice and after removing our dirty plates, they forgot to give us new plates when the duck arrived.Ambience: Front of the restaurant is small and cozy, nicely decorated with a warm feeling. The back of the restaurant was larger and had a more casual vibe. Overall, a good experience. We were able to take advantage of a discount on the whole duck which was nice.

Yong Chuan in the Lower East Side caught my eye with their half-off Peking duck special, and while the duck itself lived up to expectations, the rest of my experience was a bit mixed. Here's the breakdown:Peking Duck Perfection: The half Peking duck was definitely the highlight of the meal. The skin was crispy and flavorful, the meat was tender, and the pancakes were thin and delicate. It was a classic done right, and the half-off deal made it even better.Stir-Fried Pea Shoots with XO Sauce: This dish was a pleasant surprise. The pea shoots were perfectly cooked, retaining their crispness, and the XO sauce added a wonderful depth of flavor with a hint of spice.Disappointments: Unfortunately, the stir-fried shredded eel and Kou shui chicken were a bit of a letdown. The eel lacked flavor and had a slightly slimy texture, while the Kou shui chicken was bland and underwhelming. Despite the misses, I'm tempted to return to because I saw a neighboring table order a fried prawn dish that looked and smelled absolutely incredible. It's definitely on my list to try next time.Overall:Yong Chuan is a decent spot in the LES, especially if you're looking for a good Peking duck (even better if they decide to have the half off deal again!). I'd recommend sticking to their other specialties and perhaps venturing out to try some of their more unique offerings, like those tempting prawns! Overall service was great and ambiance was top-notch.

Don't be fooled by the pictures and the random restaurant review sites. This is just another Chinese restaurant. They try to make the vibe more Mr. Chow than your local take out spot but it's essentially the same. The Ningbo cuisine they boast is ironically not better than fan favorites like your dimsums and soup dumplings or duck. The service is slow and disengaged. The vibe is also trying to fake a sense of class and not really classy; check out the bathrooms and you'll know.No need to go out of your way to get here especially since there are some great Chinese options a few blocks away from it.

I came here for the half off Peking duck deal. We got the wonton in chili oil appetizer, fried string beans and half a Peking duck which was very filling for 2 people. The string beans were really good, with crispy outer skin and good seasoning. The Peking duck was also perfectly cooked. The skin was very crispy and the meat was succulent and tender. The servers were very attentive and constantly refilled my water and keeping the table neat and tidy. The decor is classy, bathroom was clean. Prices is a little steep but expected for an upscale place. I would highly recommend trying this out during their half off duck week.

Overall food is good, but I'd say kinda limited options on the menu, especially for veggie, and price is a little high. Regardless, I came here for the pecking duck and I think it was great, especially when it is 50% off, until 4/30. Food came out quick.

We came here as they had a 50% off Peking duck deal. The duck was very delicious, with perfectly crispy skin. They had a lot of toppings/sides to make your wraps, which I loved. We also got the string beans which were surprisingly addicting. It was very flavorful and had a great texture. We also got the wontons in chili oil which wasn't too heavy and not too spicy. We shared this with just two people and it was just slightly too much but we ended up finishing it all. It's on the pricy end but delicious

Fairly interesting new Chinese restaurant that claims to make food from Ningbo. The menu definitely skews a bit modern and upscale, and the prices reflect that, but I think Yong Chuan is worth a look if upscale Chinese is what you're looking for!Overall, the food was executed quite well. I really enjoyed the Peking duck and pea shoots. Service was great as well, if perhaps a bit overly attentive.

I only tried the Tai Zhou Rice dumplings (Pork, bamboo shoots, tofu, and scallion filling) from their dim sum menu here and it was just soso. Wrapper of the skin was too thick. Tasted like tang yuan. They used the same vinegar dipping sauce here as most places do for Xiao Long Bao. This dimsum definitely needed the dipping sauce because the dim sum on it's own was just mid. I only did take out but from what I can see, it was a dim lit restaurant at night and very nicely decorated and looks like an elevated Chinese cuisine place. Looks like a good place to take someone on a date or someone's birthday. Hopefully their other dimsums are better than the one I got.
