The first time I visited Nikutei Futago -- don't ask, they renamed themselves, and then rebranded themselves again, I have no clue why, it's so confusing -- I ordered a la carte and we enjoyed the Wagyu platter, the reimen and the wagyu tartare. The food was good, the service was fine and I loved the ambiance, since we were seated in the little room by the main door, and it felt like a private booth. When the bill came, I thought it was really expensive for what we ate, but I did enjoy the wagyu quality (it was melt in your mouth good). They really take their time with the service, so be prepared to be there for AWHILE. The second visit, I splurged and got the wagyu tasting and I have to say, it was overpriced, not every dish was delicious and the service was terrible. Some elements of the meal were good, but we waited at least 20 to 30 minutes between courses, we could never really get the server's attention and waited 45 mins for our dessert course, which was the worse course of the entire meal (talk about a bad ending). I think I also asked for more tea twice and never got it.Considering I was JUST at a Michelin star restaurant a week prior, and paid nearly the EXACT same amount? This was not worth the price tag, the service was so terrible and some of the courses were underwhelming. I wouldn't come back for the Wagyu tasting.

Great foods, super awful services. If you like their foods, go to their Chelsea location. DO NOT go to their Soho location.I am a big fan of their Chelsea (17th street) location, much longer before they open this Soho location. My husband and I used to visit that location very frequently and we became their VIP (with the Golden tongs). The services and foods are both fantastic at the 17th street location. So when we found that they open this new location, we were thrilled to try it. But it was a super disappointing experience. Here are some details of the awful services:1) The services was super super slow. Looks like their are only 2 servers. It's hard to find them when we need to. Between each dish we ordered, we had to wait about 20 min. And our server seemed to forget one of the dish (Katsu sando), so we waited like half an hour, and still got a cold one.2) No host to seat the guests. When we arrived at the time of reservation, we waited at the front door. There is a sign asking the guests to ring the bell, we did, but no one answered or showed up, so we walked in ourselves, but still couldn't find anyone. After about 10-15mins, finally someone showed up and gave us a seat.3) Given above 2 conditions (we were seated late & the dishes are served super slow), they still asked the table back 2 hours after our reservation time.4) The server's English skill was super awful, and hard to communicate. She had a hard time to understand some of our requests.5) She refused to change the grill. There was some meats stuck on the grill, so the grill started to smoke a lot, we asked her to change to new one, she insisted that it's not needed.6) Some non-grill items which were supposed to be served hot were completed cold. Like the Katsu sando - it was completed cold, like it had been made a hour ago before we got it. So we had to reheat it using the grill. If it was at another restaurant, I would ask for a new one, but in here, if I did, I probably had to wait for another 30 mins.7) The 10 second wagyu comes with an egg yolk. We ordered 2, so we were supposed to have 2 yolks, but she only gave one. I asked her, shouldn't we have 2 yolks? She said, one is enough and refused to give us 2 yolks. So I had to order another one with $3.

We ordered the pre-fix which comes with appetizers, rice, and beef for bbq. For 2 people before drinks, it came down to around $200 before tip. The quality of the beef was good, but the service was extremely slow and we were very disappointed that for how much we were paying we were supposed to cook our own meat. When we asked them to cook for us, they didn't know what they were doing either and cooked us meat that was still completely cold inside. We suspect that the grill wasn't even hot enough. When asked, the waiter said, "that's just how he was trained so he wasn't sure what happened. This is why it's recommended to cook your own meat. So if it's undercooked, you can throw it back on the grill to cook again." The appetizers and rice were all mediocre. For the price, the service and the food quality, take your money elsewhere.

While I think the set menu prices are a bit overpriced, the ambience, vibes, and service make this a solid pick for catching up with good friends or significant others. Each of the tables is located in a private room which makes it feel somewhat lux with the decor being very Japanese like. The grilled meats were solid and ingredients tasted fresh, but wasn't anything mind blowing.

Amazing food. Amazing service. We got our own little room with the sliding paper panel doors and everything. ALL the wagyu is from Japan. And it does not disappoint. Some of the best I have had. They have only been open a few months but you would not know it. A uniquely Japanese experience. Everything was exceptional.

Recently my girlfriend surprised me with an unforgettable birthday celebration at Nikutei Futago. She booked the tasting menu in advance and we were seated in a private room beside a beautiful Japanese garden-like setting. The ambiance transported us straight to the heart of Kyoto. The Wagyu, a Japanese Miyazaki A5 was phenomenal as expected as were the seafood pairings per each dish which we were told were flown in that morning. The true standout however was the impeccable service. In typical Japanese fashion, the delicate meats were grilled in front of us perfectly and each dish was assembled before our eyes. Our favorites were the thick-cut tongue and the filet mignon. For the tasting menu though keep in mind that all cuts are Wagyu therefore will be very heavy, just a couple of slices are enough to set you into slow motion [It's about quality not quantity]. Having dined at their sister restaurant Yakiniku Futago several times we were thrilled to experience this upscale counterpart. It was an evening of exceptional food, enchanting ambiance, and outstanding service.

An amazing A5 wagyu meal is just the tip of the iceberg. It was an experience of quality, service, flavors, and art of food. The fact that they get their beef from their own farm in Japan and source their ingredients from Japan is a testament to their menu. This is a must try experience.

Worse restaurant in New York I've ever seen. We made a reservation at 7 pm and arrived on time, but we had seats until 8 pm and get our glass of water 30 minutes later. I have no clue what's the point of making appointments in such restaurant. No one came out after ring the bell in the front door until we went in looking for someone. The waiter keeps ignoring us when we find her and asked us to wait without any apologies. I have to say that the quality of meat in here is OK, but the seasoning is terrible and so so so salty. I really don't think the price of the food and service matches its price. I believe there are lots more better restaurants with the same meat quality and a lot better service in New York. There are three waiters in this restaurant and the middle aged woman is the worse, she is the one who ignoring the customer and disappearing in the next 2 hour of dining.
