I recently dined here on Luna new year, and I absolutely loved my experience. It definitely was everything I expected and more. The food was very authentic, the staff was very welcoming, and the restaurant decor itself is absolutely gorgeous. I will say it does get really packed so definitely make your reservations before coming in. Expect your breath to be taken away.We ordered half duck, steam ginger fish, and orange chicken. All 10 out of 10. I'm really glad that I chose this restaurant to have my lunar experience. What actually surprised me was prices, it very reasonable. The staff is very hands-on and quick. The portion size are very generous. Can't wait to come back. Or be that person to tell other tourists/friends to experience this place for themselves.

This place's PR machine was working overtime when this place first opened because it seemed like every nyc restaurant publication was singing its praises. Cantonese food, once the only Chinese regional cuisine known to American palates, has been outshined by newcomer regional cuisines like Sichuan, Henan, and Fuzhou. Having grown up with Canto classics I will always be nostalgic for a good tofu claypot fish over rice or chow fun with wok hei, so I happily visited for dinner last year. The hype had died down by the time I visited, so I didn't have to worry about waiting for a table or having our server/kitchen be overwhelmed with orders which is what seemed to happen to customers who visited soon after they opened. All dishes I tried were so good that I ended up asking them to cater a 100 person party I threw the next month. I appreciated being able to work with their staff, who were all fluent in English, to plan out the menu for my party and how many trays felt like the appropriate amount of food. They underestimated how much my group would need because they assured us there would be plenty of food but we ended up running out. Still, all the food was delivered on time and totally delicious.4 stars feels like an appropriate and accurate rating for this restaurant.

My friend's family is Cantonese so I trust her judgement when she selects restaurants for us to try and I was not disappointed with Uncle Lou. We got there early and got a table and they were ready to take our order. My husband and I ordered some veggie dumplings (very tasty) and sesame chicken (best I've ever had) while my friend and her husband ordered some crispy noodle seafood, stuffed eggplant and tofu and then an eggy-tofu dish that was very custardy. Everything was great. I loved the sauce and the variety of textures in the seafood dish and the tofu-egg dish was really tasty. The standout for me was the stuffed eggplant and friend tofu. That was really a "wow" and I had to restrain myself from eating all of it since they ordered it.Service was super efficient and kept things moving. This is a popular place so go for a late lunch or an early dinner if you don't want to wait. If you do wait, your mouth will be watering as you see and smell the wonderful dishes being served!

This is a somewhat fancy/pricy restaurant serving really delicious Cantonese food.We came here for lunch the day of the Chinatown Chinese New Year parade, and the place was packed. This, plus a sign telling customers that they were understaffed that day, meant that service was slow. Food, however, was phenomenal. From the dim sum menu we had shrimp rice noodle rolls (#20), and har gow (#2). We then had saucy beef chow ho fun (#101) and water spinach sautéed with fu ru. All these dishes were delicious, but the MVP of the day was definitely the braised pork belly with mui choy (#L16). The pork belly comes sizzling hot in a clay pot, and it is served with pillowy warm buns. This pork belly packs an insanely delicious flavor! I loved this dish, and would come back just to eat more of it.Yes, this place is beautiful, and yes, prices are definitely high with most main dishes $20 and up. However, portions are large, and one dish is good enough for 2 people. We had plenty of leftovers to bring home.

First meal as well got in to NYC was at Ubcle Lou for lunch. We were sat pretty quickly through the lunch rush and ordered honey walnut jumbo shrimp and eggplant in garlic sauce. The shrimp were truly jumbo and both tasted fantastic. Service was good, fun location in Chinatown. Overall really enjoyed this meal!

What an amazing experience!I wanted a restaurant that would make it worth it for lunar new year and I was recommended this place, and I'm glad I picked it! Coming all the way from LA, I wanted a night that I could remember forever. The wait was long! About a 2 hour wait. I'm sure it's not that busy every day, but def make reservations if you can. The ambiance is very New York. I felt like I was in a movie shot in NYC. I loved it. The food was delicious! Great portions and pretty presentation. Now I can remember this night for the rest of my life. It was a very special dinner for me.

If it wasn't for the horrendous wait, i would've given 5 stars. Because the food was amazing, like some of the best cantonese food i've had in the states. We waited an hour to get seated and the whole system of waiting sucked. They kept seating groups after us, it didn't really feel like they went in order from top to bottom. I know sometimes restaurants skip around depending on party size but most of the groups were 2-4 people. As for food, I highly recommend the garlic fried chicken! I could eat this every day. Coconut Walnut shrimp was good too and the sticky rice. They give a lot of pea shoots and lo mein, but I think I would go for something different next time. Overall, the noise level was decent, I didn't have to shout

Location: Chinatown, Manhattan: Accessible by N, R, Q or 6 trains @ Canal Street Subway Station is the closet walking distance to this restaurant. Wait time: Came here on a Thursday evening around 6:40pm. The wait for 3 was about 20 mins. Party will not be seared unless your whole party is present. Reservations are accepted (wish I did my research before heading over haha). There's a good sized waiting area with metal stools.Food: We ordered 3 dishes: Peking Pork, Stuffed Eggplant /Stuffed Pepper/ Stuffed Tofu and a lamb stew plus one bowl of white rice and a bowl of brown rice. Each entree was huge, tasty, authentic and tasted fresh. Service: Our server, Daisy was AMAZING! She was so attentive to our needs without us even asking. She refilled our tea 3 X plus, gave us extra napkins and even changed our plates. Definitely one of the best services I have ever received any restaurant and I've been to many. The owner Uncle Lou also stopped by our table and asked how everything was (I thought he was the mgr but found out he was the owner from our waitress). Another male waitstaff also checked in on us during our meal. I have to say service is amazing!Ambiance: The decor is inviting with red lanterns hung around the restaurant along with wooden walls. They also have a bar if you're in the mood for alcoholic drinks. There are 2 unisex restrooms that were clean and had bathroom hooks on the door. One was larger so it should be handicap accessible and large enough you can push a stroller in to change your baby's diaper if needed. Pricing & Portion: The portion was generous and pricing was affordable. They offer a 9% CASH discount. We even had leftovers to take home. Our bill including over 20 percent tip was $100 in cash for 3 huge Entrees and 2 bowls of rice shared. If you're lower Manhattan and want authentic Chinese food with great service and ambience then you need to give this restaurant a try!

This was my favorite meal in NYC! Two adults and two kids and we split a few dishes with plenty to take home. It was packed but they had a great system for keeping things moving and the wait didn't feel that long. Will definitely return when I visit NYC again!
