For all the hype this place has as well as the steeper price point, I am super sad to give this place 2 stars. The stars given are purely for the outstanding bartender, Jon, and the free bread/butter as well as the small complimentary desserts that came after the actual meal. One of the hostess's was really sweet and accommodating, while the other one was a bit standoffish/not as welcoming. We came in as a walk-in on a random Wednesday evening after talking about trying Torrisi for the past 3 years. When we came inside, the hostess let us know that they had bar seating at 7pm available for two. After all the wait and excitement, sad to say this is my verdict:The main dishes were very...confusing, and it didn't go together well to be honest. The portions were also extremely small, that I was glad we had a small bite of pizza over at Upside before coming here.Less is more in some cases, and there was way too much mixing of cuisines and ingredients. The tortellini was decent, but the sauce was way too sour and acidic (which is not authentic Italian). The prawn raviolini was confusing and more like a dumpling, but even then, i would just eat my own handmade dumplings or head to Flushing/Chinatown. Lastly, the cavatelli with Jamaican beef was very salty and hard to finish. So, both of us gulped down lots of water and simply took the rest to go as it was too expensive to go to waste. My partner also ended up ordering a Torrisi Spritz, which was ultimately $25 for a few inches of real drink/liquor, and a huge rectangular block of ice.Food wise, for its reputation, Torrisi should just be more simplistic and go back to the basics...We won't be returning sadly and I am not sure how this place earned a Michelin star. Ambiance is great, but for food taste and execution, we expected a whole lot more. The headline is "chic Italian eatery", but it wasn't authentic Italian, but rather more gentrified and blended cuisine (my partner is 100% pure Italian as well and spends each summer in the south of Italy).
