Have been ordering for John's Deli religiously for years, and only from Stilwell Avenue! There has not been a sandwich, an appetizer or side dish that has not been enjoyed by everyone. Call it what you want, that motor oil Johnny Roastbeef Gravy is legit crack. Whether it's on roast beef or chicken cutlets it is delicious. Always order an extra cup to dip on the side. The sandwiches are well worth the price each one better than the next. The Apollo Creed, the Benjamin Bubba Blue, the Eric Murphy, the Tommy DeVito, Tony Montana, Jesse Pinkman - just to name a few must try eats. The buffalo cauliflower is fantastic and a perfect starter. The rice balls and potato croquettes are awesome too. Even the french fries are good. The customer service given to take out orders is above and beyond. If they are short on something or don't have a particular bread they will call right away to check on how they can make it work for you. Really great stuff keep up the good work !

I was here for the first time ever a couple of weeks ago. I have heard good things about this establishment for what feels like an eternity. I was very disappointed in the portion sizes for the cold sandwiches. Although the food was fresh . I found them to be way over priced for the disappointment of portion size. I am a small person who doesn't eat much. If they got me to say it was small it was small. I have had bigger and just as fresh at the local stores paying half the price or less. The service was ok. To be honest with an establishment as popular as they are they could hire happier servers with better knowledge on how to prepare a roll and hero . The ambiance is that of an old dell which I found to be very comfortable and cute.It was immaculate as far as cleanliness.

I had the Vinny Chase cold sandwich which was decent. Good amount of prosciutto, although it was cut pretty thickly so it required an amount of chewing. The tomato and red pepper salad was a nice touch. I'd try a hot sandwich next time. The bread was just okay and the size wasn't big; I'd rather pay five more dollars at Lioni's. Wouldn't go out of my way to visit but it's worth another shot. Their potato salad was good!

Been here a couple times but always for the cold sandwiches. Came by again and opted to try some hot ones now. I got the Jimmy Conway (Turkey, Swiss, Onions, and Gravy) on a 9 inch hero and it was just okay really. The turkey was a little dry and the cheese and gravy helped, but it felt like there wasn't enough of either to balance out with all the turkey. It felt like the balance of the sandwich was off with too much meat and not enough accompaniments with it so it just ended up tasting kind of one note. I did see someone get the Johnny Roast Beef and that looked super good so maybe that's more my speed. I'll probably try that sandwich some other time though!

As a Brooklyn native and sandwich lover, I can't believe I didn't come here earlier. John's deli serves up some delicious, made to order sandwiches with clever names and unique flavor combinations. We ordered the Eric Murphy with extra cherry peppers and the Dr. Tancredi to share. Both sandwiches were generous portions and with chips and a drink the total is about $40. They have indoor and outdoor seating. The owner was very personable and made us a little fried shrimp after we inquired about the weekend seafood sandwiches. Great customer service, very delicious sandwiches ( gotta get that sesame seed bread!) will definitely be back for more.

The Chicken Noodle Soup was good but as much as I paid for a Pastrami Sandwich and ask for Swiss cheese, I got no cheese and a paltry amount of meat. I was looking forward to a good sandwich but was left disappointed. Physically I can't make it to the LES to Katz or Dave's in Bed Stuy. For the cost, get the flavor and orders correct.

When I'm in Brooklyn, I like to stick to my goto spots. I live on Long Island and if I want a warm roast beef sammy? Forgetaboutit. They'd look at me like I had two heads. I've never been to John's deli, lemme see what the hubbub is all about. Walking in, I'm a man on mission. If there is one thing that irks me, someone in front of me and not being prepared on the sandwich offerings. It's like being in an ice cream shop and the person in front of me wants to try every flavor. They're licking the spoon and commenting, Hmm the vanilla notes are very pronounced. Me? I have cash in hand and read the entire menu. I walk in and I'm surprised by the size of the deli. It's a small powerhouse with a few tables. The menu board is to the left on the wall, no one is in front of me and I ask for the Johnny Roastbeef. Roll or Hero I'm asked. I wasn't prepped for that choice so I said on a roll please. The roll was freshly baked but it was a scooby snack, I shoulda went for the the hero. The Johnny Roastbeef is freshly sliced roast beef with sautéed onions, mozzarella and gravy on a freshly baked roll. Look at my picture, the sandwich guy was an artist with the gravy! One bite and it was a slam dunk. There is something about warm roast beef and gravy, to have it on a handheld sammy is epic. John's deli, I'm glad we met. First time here and I had a great sandwich. I can't wait to return.

The order was simple: Johnny roast beef on a nine inch hero with the gravy on side. It was an amazing hero. There was plenty of roast beef with cheese and onions. The gravy is so savory. I got the gravy on the side since I was traveling with the sandwich. The place is nice and clean. The staff is helpful and friendly. Parking can be a pain, but it's worth it. I will definitely be back.

Very small place. If you're not looking for it it is easy to miss. Glad I did not miss it!!!It's a small establishment, clean with indoor seating (3 tables) and outdoor (two tables) as well. We ordered the classic roast beef on a The sandwich was packed (not too thick) with savory, juicy & tender roast beef topped with caramelized onions that perfectly complimentary the beef. It really was a bite of delight. The guys at the counter where very nice and quick. We will definitely return
