I came here with 2 friends. Ordered 2 appetizers, 3 entrees, and 1 dessert to share. For apps, we had the Palo Duck Dumplings and the Roti. I am a person that cannot handle spicy at all and these were way too spicy for me. However, the Panang Neuh (Braised short rib curry) was not that spicy at all and loved it so much. It was flavorful and the braised short rib was so tender. I really like the coconut crusted chicken as well. Crunchy breading and the chicken was not dry. The mango avocado salad that it came with was refreshing as well. The only con was that our table was quite small and it felt very squished with our winter jackets and bags squished btwn us. I'm sure eating here during warmer weather would be more comfortable.

Delicious Thai-fusion spot with my favorite French toast in the city! It's pretty hyped up and can be tough to get a reservation so I honestly recommend just walking in (so far the wait has only been 10 min max), but to avoid it come during an off time or a weekday! The Thai tea French toast is my favorite thing here! The bread they use is this delicious cinnamony babka, and the Thai tea butter is to die for! Absolutely love! The breakfast sandwich is also good, and their Thai tea/coffee are both solid.

Finally made it to the infamous Thai Diner! They do not take reservations so I arrived around 6pm, put my name down for a party of 3, and we were seated around 6:30pm. I will say foot traffic started picking up shortly after 6pm. Something to note is that they do not have any waiting space inside, so keep that in mind depending on what season it is.First impressions once inside:- The atmosphere here is cozy and charming, with thoughtful decor that really highlights the attention to detail. It's the perfect spot for a casual dinner or a dinner date. The space also works well for larger groups--more people means more food to sample, making it great for birthday parties or celebrations.Food:- Typical NY prices... aka not the cheapest but with a group reasonable. $$- I will say, portions seem smaller here than at other Thai places, but still plenty of food served. Definitely best to share plates.- We decided to order some new/ unique dishes:1. Palo Dumplings (Duck Dumplings): 5/52. Roti: 3/5- The spicy sauce was good!3. Chicken Pad Thai: 3.5/5- Chicken was very good. Noodles were okay!4. Crispy Snapper: 5/5- SOOO good! Definitely the higlight.5. Crab Fried Rice: 5/5This was MORE than enough food for 3 very hungry people!Service:- Food came out within 10 minutes of ordering.- Everyone was very nice and always had a smile on their face.- Our waitress had great suggestions and constantly checked-in on us.- The team always made sure our water cups were filled!

The food here IS worth the hype and I'll defend my take on this! We went right at 10 AM for the weekend brunch and were immediately seated. Service was great, nobody was rushing us out, and all the food came out faster than expected. I had the Thai cheesesteak with fries, plus a pandan hot chocolate. Need I say more? This isn't going to be the same Thai food you get at Thailand, it's a fusion with a diner flair to it. All of the food we got was so flavorful and we were already looking for another time to come back. What a wonderful experience, this might be one of my favorite restaurants in Manhattan!

Came in for brunch on a Saturday around 11:30 and only had to wait for 10 min for a table for 2. We ordered the phat Thai with short rib and the breakfast sandwich. The portions were on the smaller side for the price which is why it's not 5/5 but the phat Thai was really flavorful. The short rib was really tender as well. The breakfast sandwich is definitely one I'd recommend and it comes with a spicy tamarind sauce. I really prefer this Asian fusion bfast sandwich to Win Son's. I would definitely come back to try other options! Service was fast and efficient and the ambiance was fun.

I find this Thai restaurant to be highly overrated and overhyped. It's puzzling how popular it is because, frankly, I don't see the appeal. Here's my take on what I tried: * Tom Yum Soup: Bland and watered down. I expected bold, spicy flavors, but it was disappointingly mild. * Crab Fried Rice: Mediocre at best--bland, with nothing to set it apart. I've had far better versions elsewhere, and the accompanying sauce didn't enhance the dish. * Khao Soi: The crispy noodles with curry were just okay. Nothing memorable or worth coming back for. * Panang Neuh: The braised short rib was a letdown--dry, tough, and lacking the tenderness you'd expect. * Banana Thai Rum Pudding: Overwhelmingly sweet. Definitely a pass. * Coconut Sundae: Decent. There was a lot going on, but it was enjoyable overall.Overall, the experience was underwhelming, and I wouldn't bother returning. It simply didn't live up to the hype. Highly disappointed.

--Location/Parking--Located SW of East Village area of New York. Easy to spot with the long lines wrapped around the building.--Ambiance--I came to the spot because of tiktok and I wasn't disappointed. The décor took some inspiration from Thailand. The space is tight, but that is sometimes expected in New York. I like the light inspiration taken throughout the restaurant and the server and bartender said the dishes name with the correct pronunciation. I ended up getting a spot near the bar because of the limited seating.--Service/Staff--The staff did a great job in recommending dishes that had an authentic taste and correctly pronounced everything correctly. I wasn't disappointed in any dish.--Food/Products--Order the larb and noodle dish. Not disappointed at all and had an authentic taste just like it was made in Thailand. Fries I order on the snack section was lightly covered in Mussuman curry and peanuts. Highly recommended by the bartender. The fries did not come out soggy at all and the curry was a great starter dish.--Capacity--Limited spacing. That is why there is a 1.5 hour wait that wraps around the building. Not a bad thing but shows how good the food is.--Overall--A good romantic spot in New York, I would only go back with a small or medium size crowd.

Thai Diner is currently one of the most popular restaurants in the city and I was thrillllllled to be able to give it a try. I must say though- for me, it didn't quite live up to all of the hype. I tried the curry fries, Thai tea French toast, and the Thai diner egg sandwich. The highlight for me was the curry fries- I wasn't sure what this would look or taste like but I was so pleasantly surprised with how they melded these two classics together. A really solid choice for an appetizer! As for mains, I thought that the French toast and egg sandwich were just okay. I found the French toast to be on the dry side and really would have appreciated some syrup along with the two condiments provided. The sausage that came in the egg sandwich was juicy and flavorful but I found the Thai basil in the sandwich to be overpowering. Another con to be unfortunately was the wait. Thai Diner does not take reservations and getting a table was toughhhh. Be prepared to be walking around the neighborhood or waiting outside until your table is called. If you're lucky enough to get in, please give it a try! I'm excited to see how this place and its menu develop over time.

Do not understand the hype of this spot. Think it's more fusion than authentic Thai. Tried their popular dishes like disco fries, thai iced tea, crab fried rice and khao soi. Disco fries were the best for sure and also def fusion.Thai iced tea - way too sweet and not strong enough in tea flavor.Disco fries - curry + fries. Yummy but very watery towards the bottom.Crab fried rice - literally Chinese style fried rice, where the rice is a bit dry and very garlicky. Was surprisingly disappointed with this dish.Khao soi - creamy and very heavy. Better than the fried rice though. This tastes like the curry that I tried making at home though and I am not Thai, so interpret as you will. Not 2 stars because service was decent and staff are nice. My basis of understanding Thai food is that I grew up in SEA and used to visit Phuket multiple times a year but maybe that's not the type of Thai food they're going for.

I've been meaning to go to Thai Diner for a while, but have always been deterred by hearing about the long waits and difficult-to-get reservations. Therefore, when my friend told me she got a reservation for 2 at 9:15 am on a Monday morning, I was very excited despite the early time. The restaurant was cozy and relatively empty at the time. We ordered the thai ice tea, thai ice coffee, kai soi, George's egg sandwich, and their well-known Thai tea babka French toast. Everything came out relatively quickly with the drinks coming out first and everything else soon after; we were barely able to fit everything on the table! All the dishes looked delicious, especially the kai soi and the colorful French toast. My personal favorite was the egg sandwich. The exterior is roti and the inside is filled with avocado, egg, and bokchoy. Although I've been told that Thai Diner is known for their French toast, it was only alright for me. I did love the touch of the balls of dragonfruit and the beautifully piped Thai tea butter, but I don't think they added anything to the French toast. The kai soi was very flavorful and I actually found it to be a bit salty, but if eaten with roti, it should be manageable!I would consider coming back for lunch/dinner and I would recommend stopping by for breakfast once, but I personally wouldn't come back again for the same meal.
