This is not my first time at this restaurant and I loved it as much (if not more) than before. Ambiance is absolutely stunning. Any of the pictures you see barely do any justice to this place. Most definitely a restaurant for a special occasion, if you're looking for one. Service is fantastic. Staff is super attentive and definitely on point. Food - Star of the show - simply wow! I know the Chilean sea bass is mentioned quite a bit but serious, an absolute must try. This shush would turn anyone into a fish lover. So incredibly tender and perfectly seasoned to make this melt in your mouth delicious. The scallops were amazing as well, another must try. I seriously want to go back just for that sea bass. We went for my husband's birthday and they brought a giant fortune cookie filled with half vanilla & half chocolate mousse. Soooo good. Perfectly crispy and light. Delicious ending to an amazing dinner.

On Valentine's night, we stopped at TAO Uptown before heading to our Hamilton show. I had dined at the downtown location three times before and had great experiences, so I expected the same at the uptown site.I ordered the 8 greens fried rice, and after taking a few bites, I bit into something hard. To my shock, it was a screw! A metal screw! Never in my life have I encountered anything like this. I informed the waitress, who promptly removed my meal from the table and apologized. The manager came over shortly thereafter and said our meal would be covered. However, I couldn't finish my meal because I was so freaked out. I realized I could have choked and died on that screw, and there was no follow-up on how it ended up in my rice.I am extremely disappointed in TAO and pray this does not happen to anyone else at this location.

Loved TAO while in town!!The service was so great, we had multiple people waiting on us that made sure we were always taken care of. It is SUCH a cool restaurant, the vibes and decorations are and a must see. We went for lunch on a Friday and it was not too crowded at all, we definitely did not need a reservation. I got the lunch special and it was a ton of food and all soooo good for a really reasonable price!! The vegetable rolls and sauce were amazing

We have been to Tao Uptown a few times and the food, ambiance and service never disappoint - even after 14 years! We were excited to take our family here for the first time and the decor is always the initial stunner. The lush moody tropical feel is unique as is the multi story stone buddha statue! Our waitress was the epitome of a gracious professional, inquiring about and following up on food allergies, checking in frequently and seeing to it that our plates and the table were refreshed often.Amongst the many dishes we enjoyed, a few were standouts: Chicken Gyoza, Pecking Duck Spring Rolls (that's right!), Hot Edamame, Spicy Tuna Tartare, Diver Sea Scallops, Kung Pao Chicken, Filet Mignon Pepper Steak, and the Triple (yes!) Pork Fried Rice.Four stars instead of a five star review for the outstanding but noticeably high sodium content courses. Highly recommended for a special night out.

I have been coming to Tao Uptown for over ten years. I have also visited Tao in Las Vegas. Tao is a solid "fancy" meal you can count on. While there are more upscale options, this gets the job done at a relatively "affordable" price for something higher end.The restaurant is huge with two levels. There's a bathroom downstairs staffed with an attendant. I do not think there is any way to access the bathroom other than the stairs. The orange chicken has always been good, but since I am now a vegetarian, I recently opted for the Veggie lo mein. It was good but nothing special. The Taotini is a solid drink choice if you like something sweet and refreshing. We had the vegetable egg roll which comes in 4 large pieces. Very good especially with the spicy mustard.Tao used to include rice with the orange chicken but we were annoyed to find out that they no longer include rice with the chicken and you must purchase separately. So my boyfriend wound up ordering rice alongside his chicken. This feels like a lame "shrinkflation" tactic. How much money does it cost to include a cup of rice in the meal? Rice costs next to nothing to make.Dessert here is always nice, especially if you get the giant fortune cookie. I've had it many times - but it is not something only two people can share. It's way too big. I recommend getting the fortune cookie with 4 or more people.I opted for the fortune cookie ice cream instead which was quite good.Service is always spot on, throughout the many years I've been coming to Tao. I've never waited long to place an order, receive water etc. There is always someone nearby ready to take action.I always come here with a reservation out of habit. I assume just dropping in may lead to a bit of a wait.It is kind of a drag to see young children in here and it seems to happen more frequently every time I come. It's surprising to me parents would spend this much money on food for a kid who will probably eat half and then abandon the rest. Seeing kids in here makes me feel like I am at a McDonald's and not a higher end restaurant.I also notice a lot of tourists coming here. It kind of cheapens the vibe a little bit, making Tao no longer feel like something special or "upscale".Nonetheless, it has remained a solid choice if we need a consistent, reliable meal in the midtown area.

Really cool ambience and great service! TAO is a chain but apparently this is the "OG" location. They have a huge Buddha statue indoors which is very unique. Feels like you're in a different world. Tried their vegetable chow fun, kung pao chicken, and miso glazed sea bass. The flavors are definitely a bit Americanized but tasted great! My favorite was the chow fun, which was very filling. Minus one star since I felt that the entrees were overpriced relative to portion size (sea bass was $50).A fun spot for a night out!

The ambiance and service A++! The food was cooked to perfection. Between the appetizers and the entree, I was stuffed. I had a martini flight. You were able to select 3 different or 3 of the same. Lychee was my favorite and on the stronger side. My only regret was not saving room for dessert.

Today's visit was a little annoying. I sat at the bar upstairs (usually I use the one on the lower level) the bar staff upstairs short Asian or Japanese girl served me, she was attentive but flat personality so I didn't feel a need to engage. The guys downstairs are really nice. Food: I ordered the hot and sour soup; good as usual. Branzino: this was my issue, it comes with just a garnish of some type of shredded cabbage or something. When it arrives I was shocked at the portion, as they butterfly the fish and you get half of it, instead of the whole fish as I am use to from other restaurants in the city. It's grossly overpriced at $42. I ordered jasmine rice to go with it because it was so small (photo shows how thin it was). The girl said she would talk to her manager. Fine, so 30mins later she arrives with a chocolate dessert as a compliment for the fish, but never asked me if I ate chocolate or dessert. lol like I don't want to be rude so I ate half of it. I'm not a dessert person, so this didn't make it any better. I'll steer clear of these type of dishes at this restaurant.

I recently celebrated my birthday at Tao Uptown in New York, and it was an unforgettable experience! The atmosphere was vibrant, filled with great music and energy, making it the perfect backdrop for a celebration with friends. The staff truly stood out; they were incredibly kind and attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed for a fantastic evening. We ordered the lamb chops, which were juicy and tender--absolutely a must-try. The miso-glazed Chilean seabass was equally impressive, buttery and fresh, melting in your mouth.Overall, Tao Uptown provided the perfect blend of delicious food, attentive service, and an electric vibe. I couldn't have asked for a better way to celebrate my special day!

Great food in a trendy, energetic environment. Went to TAO Uptown on a busy Saturday evening and had a terrific meal.Started with the Peking Duck Spring Rolls, Shrimp and Scallop Spring Rolls and the Rock Shrimp Lettuce Cups - all solid.Followed with sharing the Miso Glazed Chilean Sea Bass (nice sized portion), Chinese Sausage and Shrimp Fried Rice (great combination) and a Rainbow Roll - all excellent. Our server Jonathon was very friendly and helpful.Great place to go especially for groups to share a number of dishes.
