It looks a little thick in this photo but the perfectly flakey crust is in perfect proportion to the filling

**CASH ONLY**Visited this bakery as part of a mini Chinatown snack crawl and the roast pork buns were perfect. They made them fresh and hot for us - definitely worth the wait!Taro bun (eaten later) was also good, and the sweet topping bun was amazing. Need to return for a pineapple roast pork bun, because they were sold out when we visited on a Monday afternoon at around 2:15 PM!

Old school Chinatown bakery. One of the many bakeries that keep the heart of Chinatown alive. The baked goods are legit and there is no pomp and circumstance. We have been scouting for amazing egg tarts our whole NYC lives and these are the best right now. Now $1.75, just a week ago it was $1.50 for one.Probably due to the bird flu / egg shortage. The other gem is their mango mochi balls covered in coconut flakes. There is fresh mango in there! And it is gigantic. Priced at $1.50.The sponge cake is super moist and soft. It is a on the pricier end at $2.50, but also gigantic. The place is super small, so go in and out.

Egg tarts!! Super cute little bakery. Service is great and most importantly, the bakery goods are yummy and fairly priced. 1. Egg tarts: perfect texture that melts in your mouth! It's so hard to find good egg tarts and this made it! 5/5 stars I've2. Coconut cream bun & pork floss bun: both buns were so soft! Only thing is, I fish they didn't skip out on cream for both of them. 4/5 stars I'veI definitely recommend and will be back for the tarts! xD

Very small chinese bakery I have passed by so many times and never thought to pop in. Cash only much like many of the other bakeries in the area. I went in around 1 or so on a weekday and it was just me in there. Grabbed the pineapple bun which was $1.50 and inhaled it on my walk around the neighborhood-- it was delicious! Already planning to be here lots in the coming months.

This is a small bakery with limited seating, I think there's like one table. We ordered the cheesecake and pineapple roast pork bun. The cheesecake was like a soufflé cheesecake and I wasn't a fan of it because it was very bland. There wasn't the classic cheesecake flavor you'd expect in a cheesecake. It was pretty light and airy like a sponge cake though. The pineapple roast pork bun on the other hand was delicious. The bun was nice and chewy, the pineapple flavor was strong and the pork was sweet and tangy. Even though it had meat in it, it tasted like a dessert, more sweet than savory. 10/10!

Pleasantly surprised by this tiny bakery on Chrystie St! I went in the morning and my pastries were fresh and warm! The Portuguese egg custard tart ($1.75) had a smooth rich filling that was closer to my ideal egg tart than anywhere else I've tried in NYC (I prefer the Macau style over the Portugal style). The pastry crust was very flaky. My dad recommended the pineapple roast pork bun ($2) to me the night before so I figured I'd give it a try, too. The pineapple top crust was delicious, although the paper liner on the bun was stuck fast to the bottom. The roast pork filling was great! Not too sweet with decent chunks of meat and not super fatty either. And it was bigger than I expected! These two items definitely made for a hefty breakfast. I'd come again!

The bakery is very small but the staff is very friendly. This is my second time to come shop here, it's a recommendation from a friend. Cash only. The egg tarts are great very tasty, my toddler loves the triangle cake, it's so milky and soft. The price is very reasonable. I definitely will come back here next time. And the prices are a little bit cheaper than San Francisco

Ahhh, my new favorite pork bun in NYC! I got a pineapple roast bbq pork bun to share with a friend, walked a couple blocks eating it, and had to come back to pick up four more to share with my sister / freeze. They reheat from frozen great after 1 minute in the microwave. The filling here is especially good, and I appreciate the savory pork balancing out the sweet topping! The normal pork buns and pineapple buns are also great--such plush bun and tasty filling / topping!

Tao Hong bakery has been added to my must-visit list in NYC. Everything about the experience really impressed me - certainly the bakes but also the warm demeanor of the ladies who helped me. I got an egg tart, roast pork bun, and red bean pineapple bun. I'd give all of them 5 stars!!The stars aligned for me during my visit and everything I got had just come out of the oven. Thank you to the friendly ladies who proactively told me what their freshest bakes were! Omg the egg tarts were some of the best I've ever had - a creamy custard filling with a beautifully flaky crust. I'm still thinking about it! The roast pork bun was really great as well, with a nice amount of actual meat. I feel like so many places skimp or have a lot of fatty cuts in it, but theirs was not like that at all. I didn't have the red bean pineapple bun until the next day and it was still delicious. That cookie top was excellent!Don't sleep on this spot, it's phenomenal!

Super friendly staff. Went in for a cookie and left a whole a whole bag of goods. The cashier recommended the egg tart as it just came out of the oven and, I must say, it is one of the best in the city! The walnut cookies are the bomb. And the coconut jelly thing was nice too and not too sweet.
