Tabata is a little japanese izakaya restaurant, they don't serve raw sushi, all cooked options. They had a few sushi rolls however they are all cooked options. I went with hubby for dinner and we ordered a ton of food! We got for apps: boiled spinach (note this is a cold dish!) with bonita flakes, karaage chicken, hamachi kama, agedashi tofu and we shared a main dish of Chicken terriyaki (which came with rice and miso soup!). I realize after the fact that this was WAY too much food for 2 persons. We ended up with so much leftovers. Overall, the service and food was excellent! We would absolutely return!

Solid option for the UES but obviously didn't compare to other places in NYC For apps, the octopus legs were covered in a nice tempura batter, although I wished the batter was lighter and octopus pieces chewier. The soft shell crab was well seasoned but not as fresh since parts were fishy. For ramen, I was impressed at the noodles. They were al dente and remained chewy throughout my meal! For the Tabata ramen, which featured a coconut chicken broth, I liked how it was a hearty, savory soup but a little too fusion-y for me when I wanted something more traditional. The chicken pieces were super tender nevertheless. The lava men ramen was essentially a tonkatsu ramen but spicy. It definitely brought the kick, along with a good mix of bamboo shoots, scallions, and woodear mushrooms. It is on the saltier side. It's a cozy little store with a good amount of seating. Food came out at an ok pace, despite how busy it was on a weekend night. Would come back if I was craving Japanese on the UES!

I think the photos say it all. This was a delicious and affordable meal! We tried so many dishes an they were all amazing. The karage might or been my favorite and my least favorite was the eel fired rice, non the less still very good!

Ramen broth was very flavorful and rich and the noodles were the right texture. Pork belly skewer was a little lackluster, as it was tough/chewy and was a little too gamey. Takoyaki was replete with filling and a modicum of octopus.

Ramen was good quality; different from what I usually order (broth had a pretty prominent sesame flavor, which was a new experience for me) but tasty. Gyoza were yummy, thought the yakitori wasn't anything special though.

Wonderful ramen spot on the Upper East Side. Got the beef ramen and the broth had so much flavor but was not too rich. Great service and the drink specials were a nice plus. Really fair prices too. Recommend.

Great spot for ramen! There's a variety of options on the menu. There's a lot of seating inside which is always appreciated, too. I would return. Service is friendly.

Neighborhood spot that I was really looking forward to trying. Unfortunately was a bit disappointed. We had yakitori and the udon. The yakitori was fine. Nothing too special and a bit heavy on the teriyaki sauce. The udon was a generous portion but too salty. The broth probably came from a mix. Other reviewers raved about the ramen so perhaps I just ordered the wrong items.
