I've been to China many many times for my business dealings. Among these trips I've have visited quite a few of China's provinces.Szechuan Province (being just north of the Myanmar Republic) was always my favorite culinary stop; their cuisine is known for its spiciness that has come synonymous with chili peppers, peppercorns and bean paste. These mouth numbing ingredients make this cuisine my favorite.Tonight in the East Village section of Manhattan I experienced some of the best Szechuan a food of my life, including my trips to China!Szechuan Mountain House not only had absolutely the best rendition of this fare, but their presentation of this food was artistic.I was blown away by this dinner; and I'm pretty un-blow-away-able [sic].We ordered:* Swinging Pork Belly - was this wonderful pork threaded with cucumbers / it was the best presentation if ever seen* Dumplings in Chili Oil - mouth numbing without the burning heat - wonderful * La-Zi Chicken - chopsticks absolutely necessary for this terrific dish* Grilled Beef Ribs - what can I say / crazy good* Szechuan Fried Rice - best I've had* Stir Fried Long Beans - classic crunch * Osmanthus Rice Ball - dessert without the sweetness - Great Every one dish was better than the next. It just kept on coming.I will not come to New York without one dinner here every trip!

This is a special post because Szechuan Mountain House is a place full of heartwarming memories and food My first date with my boyfriend was here on 2.14.24 and of course what better way to relive our memories than to go back to this restaurant to eat some delicious food We got green spicy bass and the peppers were no joke! I loved how it was spicy but it wasn't the spicy that was painful. It was just the right amount of tingle. The fish was tender and soft, just like my heart Lobster Mapo Tofu was something we got both last year and this year. I just love how they give you so much lobster and tofu! Once again not too spicy I took it almost all too go last time because we were so nervous but this year we finished it! Green Pepper Beef Tripe had a nice amount of spice as well and it made me want to pour the seasoning on the rice! so delicious For veggies, we got sautéed eggplant and chinese long beans this time, but last year we got sautéed Chinese long beans. Both amazing vegetable choices. At the end, they gave us TWO complimentary Polaroid pictures because it was Valentine's Day the servers were so sweet making this holiday extra special!

Our January Date Night happened to land on Lunar New Year, which happened to land in Szechuan Mountain House. This place has been on our list for some time! My wife was able to book a reservation in the middle of the night when she woke up for no apparent reason. Service is impeccable and atmosphere is nice. We happened to be placed along the wall, but the covered places (you'll see what I mean) are where it's at! We ordered all the stuff I'll tell you about and asked if that would be a good amount of food for two. Then we asked about string beans, and she said no - too much food. (We took most of the chicken and tofu and half the dumplings as leftovers.) Swing Pork - Fun and yummy. Not very spicy - recommend and will order next visit!La-Zi chicken - Mostly picked out the chicken and did not eat the millions of peppers. Had one bite with it all - yummy! Too spicy to do that for the whole dish. If you love spicy pepper, this dish is for you. Happy to have tried it; won't be ordering next time. Dumplings - Delicious and good way to break up heat. Recommend, probably would try something else next time, but no regrets!Ma-Po Tofu - Very tasty and spicy. First time having this dish - others said it was a good version/standard representation. Enjoyed - will try something else (unless dining with vegetarian friend.)Szechuan Style Fried Noodle - outstanding - mild spice level. Some of the best we've ever had. Definitely will order again. May dream of them. Peach Rice Wine - Yum, yummy, yum yum. A+ Probably too tasty. Sweet Druken Jelly - Saw it recommended in other reviews. Good for soothing flaming mouth. Interesting and fun. Would try another dessert next time. Complimentary tea is fantastic! Really good experience. Looking forward to next visit - hoping to try some organ dishes on this vast menu. Enjoy!

This place was packed on the weekday for dinner. We were a group of 5 that was kinda of crammed into a 4 person table even though we had made a reservation for 5. We tried the cold jelly noodle appetizer, signature fried spicy chicken, mapo tofu, pork belly, stir fried potato and the beef ribs. The cold jelly noodle were in a nice spicy vinegary sauce. The chicken was crispy and had a good spice. Mapo tofu was classic. The beef ribs were a bit bland- would pass on this next time. Service was quick as they have a 90 minute seating limit. Overall a good Chinese restaurant for some spicy food.

Beautiful decor and excellent service! Upon entering you'll find a pond filled with gorgeous koi! Youll feel teleported to ancient china. We came here on Saturday without a reservation for lunch around noon. No wait for a table for our party of 5My friends and I ordered several dishesThe menu was like a love story to from traditional cousins to modern take. So many options, perfect for those that love Szechuan cuisine My favorite was the cauliflower dish.

Very yummy and authentic place! Warning - the food is very spicy (which is to be expected), and there are very limited options for truly non-spicy food. The place is also frequently packed, be prepared to wait! However, there are lots of things to do nearby on st marks to pass the time. The food itself was grea! Very flavorful and authentic. The interior was pretty small, but they manage to seat a lot of people. The food also comes out at a reasonable time. Would come back!

I believe it's a newer place , but I've heard good things and was able to try to out . It's right on St Marks and they have a koi pond in the waiting area. I was there for lunch and it busy but not busy enough to wait for a table. The food is delicious and the service and vibe here is nice. They do have non spicy options but the spicy food is the way to go. Delicious. I will definitely be back.

***Spicy Approved, Great Service, So Delicious***If you're craving Szechuan food, you got to try this place! The spice is so delicious and just the right level where you can still enjoy the food and your mouth hasn't gone numb. I couldn't get enough of it. Reservations are recommended; we came here on a weekday and it was pretty packed.
