Really nice restaurant, clean but tables were pretty close together. Service was okay sometimes they were really on it and other times not as much. But overall good service. The sushi was really good, the fish was so fresh. Everything else was a bit underwhelming. The crispy rice was the most underwhelming, it was tasty but nothing special. The seaweed salad was unexpected and not the standard seaweed salad but very tasty.

Sushi Seki is, hands down, my favorite sushi restaurant (that isn't pricey omakase) in NYC. If you want an amazing sushi dinner that is high quality yet won't break the bank (less than $70 for a sushi dinner), I HIGHLY recommend Sushi Seki! I've been to their Chelsea and Times Square locations, but have yet to visit the original UES.The fish tastes so fresh, the rice is perfectly cooked/vinegared, and there is great variety. The restaurant is perfect for those who like traditional sushi (this comes from someone who has lived in Japan!) but also for those who prefer some with a more western/creative flair (although you won't find Philadelphia, Dragon, or other crazy rolls here). Their salmon with torched tomato sushi is a MUST. Their famous spicy scallop hand roll was a bit too oily for me, but my husband loves it. I'd rather save my stomach space for their fatty tuna that just melts in your mouth and their fluffy tamago (egg custard) sushi. They also have great edamame and even have hijiki seaweed salad, something that is super hard to find here in the states! It seems like in the last year or two the size of the sushi has gotten slightly smaller, but that could just be me wishing there was more. The staff is always so friendly, and their sushi chefs are the real deal--I conversed with mine in Japanese. It is always super packed, and be sure to request the sushi bar specifically if you want it. If not, they have some nice tables in the back. It's good for a date night or a night out with friends. Thank you, Sushi Seki, for being consistently amazing!

Went on a Monday night with adult kids to celebrate new apartments and jobs. To my surprise it was crowded...A Monday night at 8 pm ( good sign). We are feeling adventurous and order the omakase... chef special menu. We chose the Sushi-only which was 12 pieces followed by a hand roll. WOW! Tuna, red snapper, salmon, fluke, uni (spelling?). Of course, Don't use soy sauce, not needed. Such interesting seasonings. I only gave it four stars because the service was a little slow at the start. However, once we put in the order the food came at a nice tempo. I'd go back. A Special experience. Oh and on our way out we found a big crowd next door waiting for the Gotham Comedy Club. There is also a very good movie theatre on same block (according to my adult kids). Could be a nice date night. Chelsea Hotel is also there...looks like it might have a nice bar. Oh if I only didn't have work in the morning! Wow!

This place is probably the best sashimi I've had In nyc. I went here with a couple friends and as soon as we walked in we were awes by the beautiful wooden interior. The real star is the sashimi in my opinion. The salmon has a nice char and it just tastes amazing. I would highly recommend that and their Hamachi special!

Service was very slow and the omakase was overpriced - you could eat a 2 Michelin star omakase restaurant for less than what they charged. The value was just not there.

*** 3.5 Stars ***It was good, but the Omakase was way overpriced compared to other, better Omakase experiences that I've had. While everything was good, there wasn't one piece that really blew me away. Usually when I have Omakase each piece is an experience. We had a good time and it was a lot of food, but I was surprised when the bill came out compared to the quality and mix of sushi that we had. Probably stick to the more basic items on the menu here.

$80 for the amount of sushi that fits in my palm. What. A. Rip. Off. The smallest sashimi pieces and smallest 6 piece rolls I've ever seen!!!! I added Avo and exchanged a cucumber (Naruto) instead of rice roll for the tuna and it came out to $23 for those small six pieces LOL For someone who eats sushi a few times a week I've never felt so robbed. Mad I didn't order Nobu instead.
