Chef Oyama-San's omakase always delivers what we want. You can sit at counter for intimate experience or sit at the table with your friends to just have fun time. It still is one of the affordable, authentic sushi restaurant left in NYC.Highly recommended!

Sushi Ryusei is a hidden gem and an underrated treasure among omakase sushi restaurants. It has quickly become one of my top favorites. The fish is impeccably fresh, prepared with simplicity and precision, allowing the natural flavors to shine. Every piece was an absolute delight. The pricing is incredibly reasonable for the quality and quantity of sushi offered, making it an excellent value. I can't wait to return for another unforgettable experience! LOVED! :)

Omasase is reasonable price at high quality. We feel variety of omakase is limited and some sush look similar. Quiet authentic ambience and can have a real experience. Service is slightly slow as we needed to ask for more tea to be filled. Overall, it is pretty good. The melon they served last was amazing as they probably got it from Japan. It is not regular melon we find in the usa.

Oh man what an incredible time my mouth and I had here! Came here in a group of 3 celebrating a birthday and left full and happy. The dining space is semi intimate with most of it being the bar area. It's dark and the ambiance is sophisticated but still friendly. Our server was always around and polite and explained everything thoroughly. We came in on a Sunday during happy hour for drinks where all drinks were half off!Food: we got the 15 piece, 140$ omakase and it was an adventure through and through. The fish was perfectly seasoned and the portions of rice were just right. My favorites were probably the BBQ toro and the ebi(shrimp) with caviar. The fish in order were: Japanese snapper, horse mackerel, cod, toro, orange crab, ebi with caviar, Uni with caviar, barracuda, striped Jack, golden eye snapper, Alaska sake salmon, abalone, white eel, bbq toro, and sea urchin. Oh + a spicy scallop hand roll at the end which was excellent!I almost wish they had some pieces of sashimi in there but this was an extremely filing and satisfying meal. The three of us had a blast and even made new friends at the bar! I think sushi Ryusei has a good balance of quality and price when compared to the other sushi spots of equal caliber. Worth a stop for sure!

Fantastic. What's not to like from this authentic Japanese run sushi house. My son and I opted for their top tier option. At every turn, at every bite it excelled. The service was impeccable. I don't think my sake glass ever became 1/2 full. Thanks for a great meal.

Got the 15 piece omakase here which is $140 and it was an amazing experience. My bf and I made a reservation for 5:30pm and it was so peaceful in the restaurant as it had just opened. It definitely got more crowded throughout our meal. We really enjoyed the peacefulness so we would def book another 5, 5:30 or 6pm slot.Fresh fish, beautiful presentation, the chef explained what each dish was when he served it. We didn't feel rushed at all and the servings were nicely spaced in time. The uni from Hokkaido was especially amazing and the toro was so good. I love omakase experiences because sometimes we're served fishes that we normally wouldn't order ourselves so it's always a new experience. Reminded us of our omakase experience in Japan and it was such a nostalgic dinner. I have recommended this to friends looking for omakase in NYC. The restaurant is also in a less touristy area so it's peaceful walking there too. So glad we found this gem!

We just had the most memorable dinner at the Sushi Bar. We had the 10 piece sushi Omakase. Every single course was delicious. So good, in fact, that we'll be getting the 15 piece next time. The head chef is welcoming and gives a lot of thought to each course. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

I write to express the most complimentary opinion of Sushi Ryusei as a class act. Like other Japanese restaurants that have flourished since raw fish became acceptable to Western palates, the business is not cheap. Scholars have studied how within ethnic cuisines settle at specific price points, associated very much with their culture origin and not other factors; yes, there are some cheap Japanese venues and also expensive Chinese ones, but the difference is what has caused some entrepreneurs to open eateries of a heritage not their own, such as the many Japanese places with Chinese proprietors. In other reviews, I have opined against correlating ancestry with expertise. That is obviously objectionable if it is explicitly negative, and it ought to be regarded as a dangerous claim even if it is ostensibly positive (oh, that must be authentic because the chef is X and many of the diners are X). I have no idea who owns Sushi Ryusei. I can attest that it is excellent, with an ambiance that would not be unusual on the other side of the Pacific Ocean.I wish to highlight what is on the menu: shirako. That is a delicacy. If you have tried uni, ankimo, and fugu, and even if you are partial to natto, you might not know shirako. Or you'd have difficulty obtaining it. It is milt. That is a euphemism. It is fish sperm, and I believe the storage sac. You can watch videos of how it is harvested. After the fish is slit open, the whole organ falls out in an elaborate tangle. It is creamy and subtle and faintly fishy. I doubt you would want to eat it if you were informed in advance of exactly what it was. I cannot recall seeing it offered, even in New York City or Los Angeles. It's here. Try it.

Another delicious pickup up order. Tonight I picked up salad with ginger dressing, shrimp tempura dinner and spicy tuna roll with cucumber. The food was ready on time. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. The inside is always calm, clean and sexy. Thank you again!
