Came here for lunch! The food was not bad but I would give it a 4/5. Two of the dishes were not as fresh (ie the sea urchin and another fish). The other dishes were fresh, presented well and came out in a timely manner. The service was good at 5/5. The staff was kind along with the chef. I was there with another and we wanted to share an omakase because we were looking for a snack and they allowed it.Not many people there on a weekday during lunch so the ambiance which otherwise might have been crowded was calm and sweet. It was just my table and one other of four at another. Ambiance was 5/5 for low lighting but enough to take photos.Would come here for lunch for quiet and dinner for a louder sound of human chatter. Great for dates or an intimate company meeting.

Solid. Quiet spot on a quiet street. It was almost disconcertingly quiet. I was the only guest for a while and the friendly hostess came by to make conversation. Food was about par. They're going more traditional, staying away from the luxuriously garnished bites that I call NY style omakase. They had a few uncommon bites like chicken grunt fish and pacific saury that were fun. A decent choice but maybe unremarkable considering the amount of options in the city. However, I would not wave people off if the style, location and price point works for them.

Sushi Makoto was AMAZING! It's an omakase experience, nice and intimate. We were the only ones during our time at 9:00pm. It was like a one on one. Our sushi chef was very informative on the quality of their product. Chef has a passion for omakase and it shows. Fish was very fresh. Loved the wasabi root. Highly recommend.

For $120 and 15 pieces, this sushi restaurant is delicious and not a bad deal given other higher end places charge $300+. The fish they serve is standard, but they make sure you get crowd favorites like toro and uni. My favorites were the Shima Aji, Saba, and Akami. It's a solid place, but don't expect special or rare delicacies. The rice was decent, but not the mouth feel like the higher end spots. Given what you pay and the courses, it's a great option for a more casual dinner. Helpful staff.

Came here for a 15 course omakase ($120) at 9PM. It was a pretty intimate dinner and felt like we had our own personal sushi chef as it was only myself, my gf, and another couple who booked a reservation. The entire course took 90 minutes, which isn't bad. Seems like they improved on this considering the previous reviews that it took nearly 3 hours before. Love the ambiance as it is very bright, modern wooden finishes and subtile decorations here and there. The chef's counter fits 8 people and there's a few tables scattered around. The 15 course consisted of 3 appetizers, 11 sushi courses, and 1 dessert. The 18 course would consist of an extra appetizer and 2 additional sushi courses. Overall, I enjoyed the entire experience while also watching the sushi chef prepare the dishes. Some of the highlights include the Cherry Salmon, Fatty Tuna, and the Fatty Tuna Hand Roll. Water is refilled consistently. If you drop rice or sauce, a staff member will come and wipe it off before the next piece is served. For the main sushi courses, they will provide a book with a description or picture of the fishes being served, which is super helpful knowing what to eat. Only complaint I have was the uni that was served didn't taste fresh. All the other pieces were prepared great and fresh.

We had the best experience. The space was welcoming, calm, and beautiful. The courses were nicely paced. We never felt rushed. And the sushi and appetizers were delicious. Dessert was also super tasty. We'd definitely go back. It was such a treat.

We had the 15-course omakase, and let me tell you, this was THE best omakase we have ever had! The service was 10/10--just wanted to get that out of the way so we can really focus on the food, which was exquisite and out of this world. Every bite left us wanting more. All the courses went so well together and complemented each other. My favorites were the liver we started with, the aged tuna, the uni, and the crab soup!!! I couldn't ask for a better experience. Chef Ryan explained everything to us so diligently and was very helpful!! I'm speechless and can't wait to come back!!

TLDR: they just opened so definitely have a few service kinks to work out but the bang for your buck is well worth it (18 course omakase including 4 nigiri based apps, 13 pieces of sushi and 1 banging dessert). We will likely be back after they get their sea legs!SETTING: had a res for 7pm on a Wednesday night for Valentines Day, and rushed to arrive promptly. We got there at 6:58pm or so, and the seating before us was still going through their omakase course. We ended up waiting 30 full minutes pass our res time to even be seated. The restaurant is not that big it has about a 10 seat counter and four tables around the perimeter. There was nowhere to stand so there was a 20+ crowd around the door for the better of 30 minutes. Not a great start, and if it wasn't V Day we probably would have left.FOOD: we were finally seated and some more service issues began. For example, it took over 20 minutes for them to serve us a beer we had ordered. There were only 2 sushi chefs and 4 waitresses. There were some other chefs in the back of house but not serving at the counter so not sure what their purpose was. It was realllllly chaotic, and crazy. Then we began our meal, which was really good. The quality of the fish was outstanding and the rice was perfect but quite small. My favorite piece was the marinated tuna- it was so decadent and flavorful! Some of the appetizers need to be worked out for example the Toro Uni in this walnut cracker. The cracker overwhelmed the sushi so you could barely taste it and it was quite dry. The cracker was unnecessary. But every single piece of actual sushi was really good, and you can't get this kind of omakase for this price in NYC anymore.SERVICE: As mentioned above, the service needs to work itself out which I think it will with time. I would expect after waiting 30 minutes after our res to be seated we would get one piece of fish for free or something along those lines to show true hospitality. Which we didn't. But they did give me a beautiful bouquet of cloth flowers on the way out which was really sweet. And every server and chef was incredibly nice. They just need to stagger the seatings better, better anticipate busy periods, and provide some added hospitality to a bunch of disgruntled New Yorkers who don't like to wait for anything! VERDICT: the quality is worth it but prepare to be frustrated if it's a busy night and wait a while to be seated. I willll probably be back after they work these issues out!
