The quality of Sushi is really high. I would compare it with Yasaka (and you don't have to travel all the way to 72 street, which is a big W). Both omakaze and sushi deluxe proved to be fantastic. Overall, great food and amazing service. I would suggest that the restaurant should use different tea cups: the current ones are too hot outside to hold them. Sincerely recommend to everyone who enjoys sushi.

December 20, 2024 - Food was good but unfortunately a cockroach crawled up my leg mid meal. Then another one up the servers leg. The restaurant response: "don't freak out, it's a water bug it happens from time to time". Ok so you have a cockroach infestation... and a health code violation.. and that's the apology?! Didn't take anything off the bill and we still paid full price. Will never return and this place should be shut down by a health inspector.

We did the omakase of Japanese sourced fish and it was a stellar experience. The service was friendly and attentive. Each course was thoroughly explained, artfully presented and delicious. It was our first visit to Sushi Katsuei and won't be our last.

Sushi Katsuei has some great options for affordable omakase including the $65 9 piece and handroll set. If you're at the table, they'll bring you the sushi 3 at a time. Every piece was excellent imo excluding the uni which is just because I'm not a huge fan of uni. Reservations are a bit tricky because you have to call or send them an email via the website. There are some small menu differences between this and the original Brooklyn location (Brooklyn has a king crab roll which is lovely).

I tried both the Park Slope and now the West Village outpost and I think this is a pretty wonderful sushi establishment, especially for the price. Tonight my pal ordered the omakase and I ordered sushi ala carte, but when they brought out the plates they spaced it for both of us 3 pieces at a time. They also dressed my (non omakase) nigiri with yuzu kosho, salt and lemon, ponzu, soy, etc., which is very unusual when not ordering omakase. Each piece of nigiri had a wow factor. It was really very good. I had dinner at Sushi of Gari last week with the same friend who dined with me tonight; we both agreed we preferred Sushi Katsuei.

We had a reservation at 5:30PM but arrived half and hour early. The host greeted and seated us immediately. Our server was great and warm , he gave us really good recommendations and we enjoyed it . I personally think this is the best omakase experiences I had. The fish quality was fresh and amazing. We ordered sushi omakase and sushi and sashimi omakase , everything was so good we had to ordered more . We also ordered the oysters , omg it's so good and creamy!!! This is place is not fancy or any high class looking restaurant but definitely a great place for date , gathering or just enjoying fresh and excellent sushi!! We will definitely come back again !!!

I had high expectations for this place due to the reviews but it was decent. The fish wasn't very fresh but the rolls were good.It was my friends birthday and they didn't do any birthday sake shots or anything special at all (normally omasake places are the best for birthdays) so that was disappointing .This place is overall decent.

Dined here once solo and found that the menu steers pretty strongly toward the premium omakase options. I ordered two apps and the basic option and --man-- was it basic and a waste of a dinner slot. I returned two weeks later with friends for the proper omakase experience. It was delicious and I really enjoyed myself. One thing I didn't like was that the way they asked us if we wanted add-ons confused the less savvy diner at our table, who thought asking if we wanted "more" was just a part of the experience. File it away as naivety, sure, but nobody should ever not be on the same page when the add-ons can cost as much as an entire dinner somewhere else.

If you're looking for a sushi spot for a special occasion, this is the place for you. The omakase experience is around $130pp. If you're able to get a space at the sushi bar - do it. The chefs are so nice and explain every piece of sushi! The service was also amazing. We were able to order a couple appetizers, dessert and even had a few more pieces of sushi. What I especially loved about this experience was the no-limit sushi bar experience - we were able to sit, eat and enjoy the experience. I can't post more than 10 items as pictures - but each piece was more delicious than the other!! So amazing! I especially loved the salmon belly and the chutoro - we got 2 extra courses. Loved every part of this experience.

Pretty darn delicious. I had fun practicing my limited Japanese with our waiter. We actually saw a JAL cargo box getting delivered during our meal- so yes the fish is flown in fresh from Japan. Everything was super tasty and the dassai 39 sake was superb. The only dish that was a little disappointing was the karaage chicken- not much flavor. If you want authentic Japanese- go here!!!
