This is some of the best sushi I've had in my life. Granted my experiences are limited to Hawaii, California, New York and a few other spots but this place blew me away. Just sit down and enjoy the show. The chef will prepare for you an omakase meal that will blow your mind. Every intimate detail is handled here and your mouth will explode with all of the different flavors. Where's all the food? Slow down sailor, one piece at a time and it keeps coming and coming until you're left wondering when it will stop. Once it does, they will kindly ask you if you want anything else. I am sad to say I don't remember all of the pieces our chef prepared but there was definitely a salmon, a yellowtail and a wagyu. This place wins the prize of being my favorite sushi, and a price that doesn't break the bank too! Ambiance here is spot on and the intimacy of it all is beautiful. I will definitely fly here to New York from San Diego just to eat here again.

I love the omakase here! For around $100, you get 3 small appetizers, 10 pieces of nigiri, an uni and sea bass rice bowl (my fav dish and so much uni) and a hand roll. All the courses were amazing and so fresh! I told them we were celebrating a friend's birthday and they got us a small mochi ice cream. They would have gotten us something more if we weren't a tad late!

Overall was a decent experience, $85 for 15 courses , fish was fresh but only thing is rice was little hard which took away from the experience. My favorite was actually the first dish trio appetizer. It was a quiet night as I went on a Tuesday , staff was nice and attentive. I think would have been a better experience during the weekend with a bigger crowd to make it more lively.

Sushi Kai is a solid omakase spot under $100pp and a great addition to the west village. For $85, you get 3 small appetizers, 10 pieces of nigiri, an uni + ikura rice bowl, and a hand roll. All of the courses were super fresh and expertly prepared. They do accept reservations for the sushi bar, and if you want to order a la carte they ask that you just walk in (there are a few tables set aside for a la carte ordering). Note that each seating is reserved for approx 1 hour! Some notable pieces were the otoro, shrimp with foie gras, and scallop with caviar.

Ive been to tons of budget omakase spots and this spot is definitely towards the bottom of the list... if it is your first time trying omakase, head to Sushi by M for a much better experience. The service was also not too great -- the hostess was not the most welcoming. The trio of appetizers we started with was a bit strange, and most of the sushi pieces were not super high quality and some definitely felt a bit slippery. The scallop piece was good, but probably because it was torched. The quality of the uni and caviar was also subpar. And the most important part of the meal, the palate cleansing ginger, was like fire to the throat. Did not taste super fresh at all. We added a piece of otoro at the end just to makeup for the lesser quality tuna we received in the omakase. At $85, you can definitely find higher cuts of fish elsewhere.

What an incredible omekase experience! Everything from the quality of the fish, to the amount of courses, to the service (chefs were friendly and attentive), to the pacing of the 60 min experience was absolutely worth it. There is only one table (which is a U shaped bar), so everyone gets a view of the magic happening by the fantastic chefs. Some of my favorite bites of nigiri included the raw shrimp with foie gras torched on top (absolutely divine) and the scallop with butter and caviar. All were incredible though and really couldn't wait to see what came next. There was even an A5 + uni towards the end of the meal (as well as a medium fatty tuna; o-toro that was like butter)The overall experience definitely felt well worth the price ($85pp w/ currently BYOB while they wait for liquor license). Will be tough to go to other omekase spots in similar price range from now on!

My partner and I were looking for a date night in the area, and after doing some research, found that the popular East Village Sushi Kai just opened up a location in the West Village! We were excited to find that there was still some space left in the 7:30 seating and quickly booked our spot. We walk in 10 minutes before the experience started and were met with a very welcoming atmosphere. As of right now, Sushi Kai is currently BYOB, so we brought a bottle of sake, which they immediately offered to chill while we waited for the meal to start. On to the food... which was absolutely amazing. Each nigiri was composed in the most indulgent yet delicate manner. Overall, the balance of flavors within each nigiri was incredible. My favorites were the wagyu, the smoked scallop with caviar, and the shrimp with foie gras. That said, I really enjoyed each bite of this meal. The service here was very attentive - they continually refilled our waters (and sake that they had chilled). The pacing of each nigiri was perfect, allowing time to thoroughly enjoy each bite while also building anticipation for the next.Sushi Kai is definitely my favorite omakase experience to date, and I'm really looking forward to returning soon.

So so so good!! I loved all the courses. It was 15 courses witb 3 appetizers, 10 nigiri, a handroll and an uni don. The chef explained every piece. I'm usually not a huge uni fan, but this place was the first time I thoroughly enjoyed the uni!

Good time here last night! Loved the horseshoe shaped sushi bar, great for people watching. Service was so warm and friendly - they even sat us a half hour early when I made a mistake about the reservation time. Lovely progression of sushi/sashimi. It's true, many pieces were torched and/or had very flavorful sauces or garnishes. If you are a purest, that may be a problem for you. We thought they were delicious and were more than satisfied when the final hand roll arrived. Reasonably priced and with no corkage fee (I think). We will most certainly be back.
