Let me preface this by saying I'm a fan of Wylie Dufresne (and the long shuttered WD-50, which was a beacon in the New York culinary scene many moons ago). His career trajectory has been curious: avante-garde Michelin starred cuisine followed by doughnuts and then pizza, food for the masses. Anyway, because it was a Dufresne stamped pizza joint, I knew I was going to love this place. Also, it's pizza. Even bad pizza is better than no pizza. I made reservations for 8:30 midweek- expecting a crowd, but I was surprised to see the restaurant more empty than full. A smattering of patrons at the bar. Hubs and I had the front section of the restaurant to ourselves. We ordered the potato chip salad I'd read so much about, one of the daily specials - the al pastor pizza , and one of their regular pizzas (the couch potato). The salad was good but I felt it was a little underdressed. The salt and vinegar chips were a nice touch, and the herbs, thinly shaved radish, and heirloom salad greens were fresh. I would have loved more dressing. The al pastor pie was so tasty. There was smokiness and light heat imparted by peppers (guajillo?) imparted into the tomato sauce. There was some sweetness (pineapple, I'm guessing) and the rich meatiness of pork. The couch potato was decadent, almost exactly like a classic baked potato loaded with bacon and sour cream, and dusted with some harder nutty cheese on top, alongside some scallions. This was tasty as well. Also, the crust of these pies were among the best I've had. Crispy, light, and pillow-ey. I'm not normally a crust girl, but I polished these up. I don't understand why this place does not have a line out the door. Good value for the quality. Friendly staff, clean, modern space - but hey, more pizza for the rest of us.

Came here on a Sunday to celebrate my kid's birthday and was shocked to see a large part of the staff, both front of house and back, visibly sick - like hard coughing, sniffling/sneezing, etc. Our server was so sick they looked like they were on the verge of tears. When I asked the manager about this, or some short, blonde lady who claimed to be the manager while seemingly doing nothing, she brushed it off and said it's that time of year. To the heartless manager I spoke with, the owners, and Chef Dufresne, whom I've followed and adored for years, what in the world are you doing? Is this a restaurant or a sweat shop? You all should know better than to allow sick staff to handle food and pass on their germs to us customers. If your staff gets people sick, that is criminal and the blame is NOT on your staff, but solely on you, the decision-makers. Please do better, as I'd like to eat the food of my favorite chef without the fear of me or my family becoming ill.

Wylie Dufresne knows a thing or two about putting together the right ingredients for the most unique and delicious flavor combinations, and now we get his big brain applying this sorcery to pizza. I never imagined the likes of garlic cream, dan dan chicken, or shallots to replace the usual pizza toppings. With the help of the brains behind Breads Bakery, Stretch Pizza is a longtime vision which started out as a pop up come to life with this full service, sit down format. I've now dined here thrice, including twice in their semi-private back room, and they've knocked it out of the park each time.I've been fortunate to mostly dine here with big groups, so I've tried a little bit of everything. I've enjoyed their chickpea fries, and shishito peppers as apps. It's hard to choose which pizza I like best-- it might be a toss up between the Nellie with shallots three ways: fried, roasted, and pickled, or the Danny Boy, a square slice with dan dan chicken, vodka sauce, cilantro, and scallions. The everything bagel pizza sounds good in theory, but was too unctuous and the flavor fell flat and no one at our table reached for seconds. For a gag it's fun to order their dorito margarita if they have it, made with the Doritos x Empiral liquer and crushed up doritos on the rim. I've now tried it twice for some reason and it tastes worse as it gets watered down by the ice. But it's still fun to get. A buzz is a buzz and it goes to the same place anyway. For my birthday, they customized the menu and we got to pick the apps, pies, and dessert that would come out, all served family style. There was plenty of food for all of us and then some. Definitely try the soft serve, it's one of the best ever.

Elevated pizza place that doesn't break the bank. Very good value. Meatball Sliders - the bread was good. Maybe I'm just not a meatball person. 3/5Buffalo chicken square pizza 3/5. Felt like it could have used more chickenOld Town - Mushroom, muenster, garlic cream, and pumpernickel. This was what made me realize that this place knows how to make pizza 5/5

The pizzas are great and come out fast and hot. Reasonably priced. You do need a rez or plan to eat at bar. Staff are amazingly friendly (for new yorkers) and helpful. Highly recommend the place and come with a full wallet. Drinks are a bit over priced IMO.

Stretch Pizza offers a variety of creative toppings, but at its heart, is a pretty traditional NY slice shop, even if the pizza comes served in the form of 12 inch pies. The classic pie tasted pretty much exactly like the one I would get from any of the old school corner joints. The best bite of the meal was actually the pesto mozzarella sticks. My least favorite bite was the "Stretch Sauce," which we ordered to go with our pizza crust and tasted peculiarly artificial.
