I hate to say it but SHUKO was a huge miss. . It was a bit weird experience from start to finish. Servers were kind, if a bit over-attentive (we did go on an off night (monday) but we were literally the only diners the whole time - think they closed the restaurant after we left). The food was really the problem-- NOTHING stood out or had that deep flavorful or eye opening moment to justify the price. They hit the trendy "expensive" ingredients like wagyu, toro, uni--but without creativity or anything that would justify the price. The milk bread/ caviar course was good, but nothing else gave that kind of experience. It felt disappointingly ordinary.Would hope shuko would re-think their menu entirely and maybe offer diners some more surprises/ excitement if they hope to keep competing in a city where every other day a new sushi temple is launched.

this place has such a weird vibe. like tell me why they were playing jeremiah and other hip hop artists in a what's supposed to be a romantic upscale atmosphere also the bar seating is a bit cramped. helps that they check ur jackets for u. i was super full by the end but loved the dessert the most. everything was very balanced and thought out in terms of flavor and texture so i really enjoyed but def come hungry!!!!

At $270 a person, this omakase was good but nothing that really stood out. The whole experience was about a 3.7stars. The most exceptional part of the meal was the service and ambiance. The nigiri itself was about average. There were a couple pieces that were really fishy and I didn't really enjoy it much. I feel like the nigiri itself was a bit on the smaller side as well. The rice was perfectly seasoned though. I really enjoyed the caviar/ tuna appetizer that was served with Japanese milk bread toast. It was flavorful and in my opinion was one of the most balanced courses out of our entire meal. Our last sushi piece was a handroll that consisted of pickled cucumbers and shiso leaf. I would've preferred to end the meal with a different piece as the shiso and pickle was such a strong flavor, I felt like all the built up to this last piece was disappointing. Most omakase places tend to build up to pieces that are stronger and richer in flavor so this was quite the opposite. The barley ice cream with sea salt and rice crackers was a perfect way to end the night though.Service itself was exceptional. The staff was super attentive and constantly folding napkins/ refilling waters/etc. This place is perfect for a romantic date/ anniversary dinner. Unfortunately my date took me as a first date when I wasn't even hungry so I felt like I couldn't truly appreciate the vibe. On top of that, their price listed on Resy was about half of the bill we received so we were in for a shock. If you're going to impress someone, this is the place to go. If you're going for food, there are probably better options out there.

If there is one hill I am willing to die on, it's that omakase is an industry plant. Unless it's an ultra special occasion, why on God's green earth would you spend $270 per person for sushi? I know $270 is upscale omakase, but still why would you pay $130 a head? The sum of the parts just don't add up, and there is no way you're going to like everything the chef gives you... I mean if you're paid like that no shade. I'm not pocket watching don't worry. We decided to hit Shuko ($270 a head) for a work celebration. Not my choice, obviously. Upon arriving, the only thing that denotes it is the restaurant is a cute little yellow flower right by the door. As the door swings open, you enter a beautiful, authentically Japanese space with an elongated bar with some classic hip hop hits playing faintly through the speakers. We were walked to our seats at the counter and this is one of those places where they push in your chairs for you like you are a little kid. But at $270 a head I was letting them do all that lol. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! The $270 show began, as the chef whipped out his Kiritsuke Blue Steel knife and began cutting this fish like he was a world class samurai in the Sengoku Period. He is honestly an artist. Art takes many forms, but this has to be right up there with the best of them.Caviar is so overrated to me, but this caviar on top of toro tartare with a small piece of milk bread made me eat my words. It actually had me audibly saying "OH MY GOD."As the rest of the sushi came piece by piece, it was undeniably phenomenal with the standouts being that piece of fatty tuna along with the wagyu. But I mean at $270 a head it better be phenomenal. $270 a head before drinks... for $270 I could probably buy some..... nvm. Before I wrap this up, I need to shoutout my boy Salvador as he was keeping my plate of ginger FULL. At places like this I always try to get as much ginger as possible, as I need my get-back. $270 on me? Well Imma eat my body weight in ginger. My guy Salvador would not let my ginger plate be empty. Y'all need to give Salvador a raise!!In closing, I hear you: "But Johnny, if you loved it so much how is it an industry plant?" Great question, my dear reader. Easy answer:Was this experience worth $240 more than a platter of sushi from 295 Mercer or a Trust Me from Sugarfish? Absolutely not. Not even close... but I guess if you really want to flex up on somebody or you have an unlimited bankroll, then why not come here?IG @jnov_Tiktok @jnov_reviews

What a meal!! I was treated to it so I didn't have to pay the high price tag but it was delightful. The service was amazing. Each dish was carefully prepared. We upgraded the toast to include more toro, Uni and caviar. Wow. There were 16 pieces and dessert. I loved it all. I will remember this meal for quite some time. It's a small place and feels intimate. The door isn't marked. Like a speakeasy! Highly recommend this if you love sushi.

Bomb diggity! This was my second time here. While I ate with a friend the first time, the second occasion was eating solo. While the food is not inexpensive, it lives up to the hype. Sushi is fresh and the service is attentive and educational. Both the sommelier and the sushi chef did a great job in walking me though the menu and guiding me meal.

By far the most expensive yet fulfilling experience at a restaurant that I have ever had. As soon as you walk in its breath taking from start to finish. Went in for my girlfriend (now wife) birthday and was sooo good. They even wrote a card wishing her a happy birthday. It just kept coming ! the food felt like it would not stop (i think 30 dishes - this was pre covid). Every bite was a amazing (the range and different styles was an explosion of taste) . Once in a life time dining experience as the price is quite high. ice cream was amazing and home made!. Apps and the fish were beyond this taste realm. Service was immaculate. Everything down to the table setting and utensils was spot on. If i were to open a restaurant this would be it.

This place has declined a bit over the years. The omakase is fine, but truly not that memorable (can't remember a single thing I had that stood out?). What's really disappointing is the wait and the service level. We had a reservation on a week night and didn't get seated until ~45 mins later. Guys, we have to work the next day to afford these prices! When I expressed to the host that we were running very late, she just shrugged. At these price point, that's not the right answer. Please do better.

I think the place has lost a bit of its luster since it opened 7-8 years ago. The hype and originality has passed and now it's a place for bankers and those that want to be seen. Having said that, the quality of the fish is still high, the portions are generous, and we thoroughly enjoyed the wine list and sake we ordered. For those looking for a more traditional omakase experience, I'd recommend elsewhere like Ginza Onodera or Kanoyama. The ordering of the nigiri was also unconventional as well: they served toro early on in the meal when heavier pieces are usually saved for last. This place is fun, the toro + caviar toast is delicious, and it's a more laid back place versus stuffy traditional edomae sushi places. Best to take your gringo friends who can't tell the difference . Multiple sushi chefs churning out nigiri, so there won't be too much pleasantries. The bill will set you back, but you'll leave having a great time. Music is on point.

Good lord, this is one the best Omakase I have ever had. It's slightly on the pricey side at $270 a person, but every piece of fish was really outstanding. I sat at the sushi bar and the meal took 1:45 or so. I had a $12 Japanese lager with my meal. They have an excellent selection of Japanese whiskies, but those prices match the food price and I don't love paying $25 to $100 for an ounce of whiskey no matter how good it is.My favorite pieces were as follows:1. Chutoro2. Wagyu3. Barracuda4. Horse Mackerel5. Scallop6. Salmon RoeMany other good pieces but those were my favorites. Service was impeccable and they kept the fresh house made ginger coming (I ate 4 servings of this). The small bite of ice cream at the end was a nice palate cleanser. One other thing, there is no sign on the door and I walked past it twice trying to find it. That's just part of the adventure I guess.
