Food is not good and definitely not fresh. Ambience is very dark, can barely see anything. Service is ok. We ordered the sashimi platter and the fish was dark and old. The curry katsu was dry, the curry sauce tasted ok but ordinary. Drinks were ok. I had the lychee martini, even though the portion was teeny tiny for $10 happy hour, it tasted ok but not too much alcohol.

Temperature of the place inside is warm like 80s .... outside 88 degrees (should put ac on) Take a while to get serve ... the place is empty and still waiting around 10-15mins can't picture when it's busy ... Bathroom is small. The seating is definitely very comfortable Food is good taste but a little pricey . Total is $88 without tip yet.

I wasn't a fan of the dim pinkish lighting throughout the restaurant. Nor was I a fan of the blue/green lighting in their gender neutral bathrooms. On a Friday night, seats were easy to come by. Food arrived relatively quick. I enjoyed the Arnold Palmer drink and the Canal bowl. The seaweed salad was all right. Definitely in the pricier range. Would probably go somewhere more affordable next time.

Celebrated a fantastic bachelorette party at Shinsen, and it was nothing short of amazing! We had the pleasure of reserving the private room in the back, creating an intimate and festive atmosphere for our celebration. The ambiance in the private room is a mood-setter - black walls, dim lantern lighting, and striking red dragons adorning the space. It felt like we were transported to a chic Japanese haven, setting the perfect tone for our night. The addition of a bar and speakers in the room was a thoughtful touch, allowing us to keep the party going. Our group indulged in an array of delectable appetizers, including the must-try gyoza, spring rolls, and chicken karaage - all perfect for sharing and starting the night off right. The sushi that followed was not only delicious but also a feast for the eyes, beautifully plated and showcasing the chef's artistic flair.A huge shoutout to Tony, the owner, who added an extra layer of fun to our evening. He ensured that we were well taken care of and that every moment was filled with joy. The service, overall, was incredibly friendly, making us feel like valued guests throughout the night. As the evening progressed, we were treated to the sounds of a live band in the main area after 9 pm on a Saturday. It added an extra layer of entertainment, making the night even more memorable.

Very underwhelming experience. Was meeting up with my siblings for lunch and we wanted sushi so chose this place since it was nearby. With the heatwave going on, they had only 1-AC on when they had 3 throughout the place. You can barely feel it. Staff was very friendly and seated us at a table closer to the AC that was on. The food... not that it tasted bad or horrible, but it's not good. We were hungry so we ordered a lot of food. The kara age (fried chicken) app was very battered where you don't taste or have much of the chicken. The way is it was seasoned didn't taste right or authentic either (also looked really orange-y in appearance). Gyozas was a bit burnt. Salmon skin salad was ok.The gyudon (beef and onions over rice bowl) was pretty "mehhh" as well. The beef was too thickly sliced and overcooked (not soft and tender as it should be). The sweet soy sauce that it's supposed to be simmered in tastes watered down so it lacked a bit of flavor. Yoshinoya, the fast food chain, makes better gyudon. The sushi! I stopped eating after having a couple of bites of the sushi we ordered. It was rice heavy on the rice-to-filling ratio, and the rice isn't done correctly. Sushi rice should be seasoned a bit with rice vinegar and salt and then cooled down a bit before used to roll sushi. The rice tasted unseasoned and too hot to roll sushi with (it needed to be cooled down first) against the raw fish. My siblings and I were all quite unsatisfied from this lunch. And after spending over $250 on it... we could've/should've gotten something way better for the price we paid.

I've had Shinsen's Uni Ikura Bowl on my food wishlist for a while, but was disappointed to be presented with a bowl that fell short of the photos I saw.- Uni Ikura Bowl ($48): I've dreamed about this bowl for a few months now and expected to shell out for it but I was disappointed that there were only 4 pieces of uni. The color of the uni was not particularly appealing but taste was still good (not the best). Hard to go wrong with uni and ikura but definitely felt like it was too expensive for the amount I got.My friend got the Mulberry Bowl ($44) and felt similarly about the value. Overall, the ambience was fine (and the karaoke-ers in the back room were amusing) and the food was fine, but the search continues for a more satisfying donburi bowl. Tip: Bring cash! There's a 4% surcharge if you pay by card.

The nastiest uber eats order I had. The fish was spoiled that I had to spit the food out right away. That sour, fishy, spoiled taste is just lingering in my mouth. I hate to say it was nasty but damn it was nasty. I would stray away from sushi places like this. Obviously the fish is not fresh. I already feel my stomach hurting now. The delivery was super late too for some reason so the hot appetizers were practically frozen. 0/5 if I could.
