perfect ambiance and menu for an intimate special occasion dinner! i've been to their other concepts so this was a new, special treat. it has more chatter (obviously depends on the other patrons) and is more relaxed compared to other omakase experiences.some highlights were the scallop with lime and truffle salt, shrimp with yuzu tobiko, and sea bream. my only criticism was that the otoro piece would have been better untorched.the service was great as expected, and they even gave us a special extra course for our anniversary :) highly recommend!

The only omakase I've had in the city that I genuinely thought was worth it. The omakase is $78 PP and is a 60 minute experience. They don't skimp out on the amount of fish per roll and my favorites were the otoro and the toast with foie gras truffle uni bite but honestly I enjoyed almost all the bites. The only thing I will say is the appetizer was super whatever and the last piece, the "dessert" was just tamago which I didn't care for. I think if they replaced the dessert with something else it would make the omakase feel more complete. My husband and I were also celebrating our anniversary and they were super sweet and surprised us with a little sushi tower! I've been to more expensive omakase places and I felt the quality here was better. Definitely give it a try!

Sanyuu West has been on my list of NYC restaurants to try for over a year! I first saw their viral, extravagant omakase take out boxes all over social media. I made reservations for two a few days before and they were easy to secure on RESY. The seating was intimate - 13 seats. I saw they were preparing the appetizers for the next group of 17. The nigiri started off light and it got more and more luxurious and rich through the meal. I really enjoyed the marinated salmon roe, sea bream and yellowtail! It was also fun to watch the chefs meticulously create each nigiri. Here's what we got:Crab and uni with pickled cucumbers Sea bream, yuzu lemonHamachi yellowtail ginger and scallionKambachi amberjack Hakami blue fin tuna, chili crispToro caviar with gold flakesSweet shrimp yuzu topico Scallop with lime and truffle saltSalmon roe yuzu zest masago Shima aji striped jackWagyu uni toro toastSalmon with foie gras truffle toroUnagi sesame sauce and fried potatoToro handroll Sweet tamago

As a Californian, I always have to eat at an omakase place when visiting New York. Overall, this was a very intimate setting with at most 20 seats around the bar. The entire process did feel a bit rushed by the chefs, and the first few fish that we had was good, but for 15 courses a lot of it was just seemingly random pairings and there was no menu to follow along exactly what we were eating. I paid just short of $100 for the meal - for the amount of options there were in NYC, I would suggest maybe going somewhere else for a cheaper price and a less rushed environment.

Catching up on reviews. Though I didn't get to sit inside, I'd love to do another review on Sanyuu West the next time I come to New York. The omakase box was delicious! My boyfriend and I grabbed them to-go and sat at the nearest park to eat them as fresh as possible. All the pieces melted in my mouth, the flavor melding and paired nicely. I definitely feel like in hindsight that it is on the more expensive side for what it was.I will note that when I called in to place an order for these 2 boxes, the gentleman on the other end was a bit rude sounding. He told me that they weren't selling any boxes nor were they open. I decided to pass by to see and was able to place an order with the same gentleman. Not sure if there was some miscommunication, but I'm not letting this interfere with my next visit! I hope to dine with the chef next time and have the full omakase experience at Sanyuu West soon!

This is definitely an omakase place I will be back at! Great bang for your buck, we paid about $90 for a 15 course menu. We were left feeling quite full and each piece was surprisingly good! We weren't disappointed at all. The fish portions are also generous. The interior is clean and has a slightly upscale vibe to it but not pretentious. Service is fast, we were in and out in about 75 minutes. Overall if you are looking for a good quality omakase place that won't break your bank, I would recommend coming to Sanyuu West.

This is my rating after considering everything only because I am a person who does not like sushi. Now many of you may say why would I ever take a recommendation from someone who doesn't enjoy sashimi. Well because I am the person who can detect even the slightest fishiness and I will tell you straight away if the fish was good or not One thing that I have to complain on is that our chef was not it. He not only rushed to put pieces on our dishes but a lot of our pieces either fell over or nearly fell off our plates. My piece of ikura spilled over because of the way he placed it on our dish. Not only that but I have never found myself reaching over just to take a bite of my piece. All of us nearly dropped every single piece because of the layout. Now to the important part the omakase. I will tell you there are better places with better pieces for a better/ same price. The pieces here are simple and nothing to rave about, most of the time we didn't even know what we were eating because our chef mumbled and the omakase menu was not even in order. The fish was decent, nothing too fishy except the uni. I never liked uni but this didn't do it for me. I did really enjoy all the tuna pieces we had, but that's about it

This omakase restaurant in Chelsea does take out omakase box for $69 and it was worth every penny. It's super fresh and simple but good. It was perfect to grab and eat if you don't have the time to sit down for their omakase dinner.

Pretty solid place for omakase! You get 15 courses for $78. I like the pacing of when they give you each piece and I was surprised by how full I was. I wish they had more cocktails though cause I'm more of a cocktail girly than beer/wine/sake.
