One of the great things about living in New York is that you have so many restaurants at your fingertips, especially Italian restaurants. The downside is that, having so many choices, your standards are higher. I first learned of Roscioli's existence in 2018 through its Rome location, when I was bummed that I couldn't score a reservation when I visited Italy. So I was pretty excited when I heard that Roscioli was coming to New York. The food here is...fine. There are hyped restaurants where the food matches (or exceeds) expectations; there are hyped restaurants where the food fails to live up to expectations. At Roscioli, it's solidly in the middle. The food is decent, but it's not mind-blowing. Service is very friendly. The space is tight (in a cozy way). The bread and olive oil was good, and the almond torte for dessert is a solid way to end the meal.

I really had high hopes for this place but was pretty disappointed during my last visit. I made a reservation for the last round of lunch service on a Saturday. The place was packed and after checking in with the host, I was waiting awkwardly by the door for what was 20-25 min before being seated at the bar seating in front of the kitchen. After ordering, it felt like eons for my food to come out. I nearly finished the entire bread basket by myself (which was actually good) while waiting. Sitting by the kitchen, I could tell the service staff was visibly overwhelmed/stressed and the kitchen was busy. I don't think it's my place to make assumptions but the prix fixe lunch menu seemed to put a huge burden on the kitchen and appeared to be what most people in the room were there for. My reservation unfortunately was for the a la carte menu. Make sure to note this when making a booking for lunch! My carbonara felt like the last thing the kitchen made before barreling into prepping for dinner service. The carbonara was not that great surprisingly. The sauce was gummy/not velvety and the flavor was one-dimensional. I will say that the suppli and the tiramisu were quite good. The tiramisu was genuinely one of the best I've ever had but unfortunately not good enough of an excuse to return. The wait staff were super apologetic throughout the meal and comped my dessert because I had literally been there for two whole hours. I wouldn't usually have minded but it was my last day in town and I had places to be.

Decided to come here while planning my trip to Rome and got excited there was a location here! Restaurant is very small but had the pleasure of eating at the chef's counter. Service was outstanding and I'm always intrigued to see the kitchen chaos! Started with burrata and prosciutto which didn't disappoint! They have 4 types of bread with 2 very distinct olive oils for dipping. They treated me to a fried artichoke while I waited for my main course. My main course was carbonara which was delicious but a little too peppery for my liking. It was nice to try an authentic Roman style carbonara instead of the heavy cream Americanized version. Will definitely come back here and try more of their pasta options!

I came here for the tasting menu with the wine pairing and the food was really solid! I liked the variety I got with the tasting menu between different pastas and lighter sides and appetizers! The wine pairing was also really nice to have and elevated the experience for sure! The staff was really sweet and they went into detail for each dish as well as where the wines were sourced and how they're produced in the different regions! The tasting menu is offered downstairs to the side of the main entrance and the ambiance was nice! There were wine bottles everywhere and books! It felt like I was in someone's wine cellar in their home!I would like to go back but for the full menu and ordering a la carte!

One of my favorite Italian restaurants in the city - a simple menu with the freshest ingredients. Limited seating but it lends itself to a romantic and intimate setting, perfect for any date night or dinner with close friends. We had their Cacio e Pepe and Amatriciana pasta - both amazing. The burrata and prosciutto were some of the best bites we've had. Radicchio salad is refreshing as a palate cleanser but just okay compared to Don Angie's chrysanthemum salad. Can't wait to return!

I had heard mixed reviews about this place so already had tempered my expectations. That being said, if I could buy their bread basket to go, I would likely do it multiple times a week. (And first round is free! which is astonishingly rare in the city.) Otherwise, solid food, butter and anchovies were good, simple, but not mind-blowing. Pastas similarly fine, but the flavors didn't punch me in the face by any means. Best thing (other than the bread) was probably the carpaccio - complex flavors but needed a little more of the spread to really hit every bite.

Solid Italian spot with classic dishes that are well-executed.They start you off with their complimentary bread basket, which gives you like 4 different kinds of bread. There is a sourdough, focaccia, fruity raisin, and nutty bread, perfect for every occasion. There are also two different types of olive oil, a stronger spicier one and a lighter creamier one. The bread basket alone is a course and culinary journey. Then the burrata and prosciutto. They actually give you a good portion of burrata unlike most other places which is good. However, they still give way too much prosciutto, there ended up being too much left. The Cacio e Pepe and Amatriciana are also good, classic pastas. The cheese sauce in the Cacio e Pepe is rich and creamy and salty and peppery. The Amatriciana sauce is creamy and tangy from the tomatoes, and the guanciale was rich and crispy. The pasta were cooked al dente, may a tad bit too hard.I was not a fan of the tiramisu. The cream was overly sweet. There was almost no coffee soaked ladyfinger taste, so two of the most important components of the tiramisu were misses. The cookie crumble on top was a nice touch however.Overall, solid dishes and amazing bread basket and olive oil variety, would go back indeed!

Feel so grateful to have gotten an A La Carte reservation at Roscioli. Heads up, you book through Resy, the restaurant requires a $2.50 non-refundable deposit per person upon reserving. I managed to grab a 5PM reservation at opening and had to line up to get seated. The interior is super cozy and inviting. It feels like you're eating in a fine grocery. You can buy items at Roscioli - including olive oil, prosciutto, sauces, etc!We ordered the burrata with sundried tomatoes, cacio e pepe, amatriciana, meatballs chicken and tiramisu. To start though, they bring out complimentary bread and olive oil. The cappelli olive oil was high-quality and had a grassiness to it.Burrata was super fresh. Tasted even better with bread. Cacio e pepe was so light and creamy. Amatriciana had amazing pockets of guanciale and the sauce was nice and bright. Meatballs are the only thing I thought were OK, they came with polenta. And last but not least, don't forget to get the tiramisu. It is absolutely DIVINE. The best tiramisu I've ever had. Comes with this delicious dark chocolate situation - yum.Would come back for just the cappelli olive oil, amatriciana and tiramisu alone.

Roscioli is one of the best Italian restaurants in the city. At street level is the a la carte menu and down the stairs at basement level is their tasting menu. The a la carte menu and service was excellent - each dish was explained and the staff was attentive without ever feeling overbearing. Bread - some of the best bread in the city. 4 different types of bread are included. The two different olive oils provided are delicious. The first serving is complimentary and filling. If you want a refill it's worth the $8.Radicchio, Senape, Pinoli E Fiore Sardo - phenomenal salad, favorite dish of the meal.Carbonara - a very rich, filling, delicious pasta dish. As stated on the menu Roscioli cooks its pasta al dente so expect a firm pasta with some crunch, which IMO is the best way to eat pasta.Polpette Al Suco Con Polenta - 4 meatballs served on top of polenta. Simple and great.Reservations are a lot easier to get these days at Roscioli making it a great place to dine at without the headache of trying to secure a table.
