Had a great meal here, starting with the olive yaotiew and chilled tofu. I didn't love the tofu but the rest of our table did. I regretted not getting the tartare. The scallops were tasty, and come with a lot of vermicelli so can be shared. The lobster sticky rice and crab noodles were fantastic and I would highly recommend both! We also got the duck breast which came with pancakes, peking style, which was good, and sugar snap peas which were great. Dessert was a mango custard type dish which was odd but grew on me!The service was very friendly and quite quick, and the decor of the restaurant is great. There's a lot of open space, although squeezing 5 into a booth was a little tight.

Food was great, but pricey for the portion. Would not recommend bringing whole family / parents unless you're a tourist. This is a spot for a small group of friends or date night. Everything was really good, I don't know where to start. The waitress was friendly and helpful on deciding the amount of dishes to get for our group of 7. The Yaotiew was good, but the "lop churng" jam aka Chinese sausage was delicious; sweet and savory. My fav dish was the lobster sticky rice. The chilled tofu was divine; the duck breast was extremely tender as well as the chicken; chili crab noodles were creamy and had decent chunks of real crab meat. The veggie dish was expensive for the small portion, but it's okay since we were here for the experience and everything turned out well. I'd recommend trying this place out.

I was so excited to try Phoenix Palace, after I tried Potluck Club and loved it. My sister and I brought our dad here, eager to show him new takes on Cantonese food that might inspire his own home cooking adventures. The decor and menu here pay homage to Chinese culture. It felt like I was dining in a trendy, modern banquet hall. Sadly, they did not have a menu in Chinese so my dad was not able to peruse. Our waitress was amazing and very helpful with guiding our selections. We chose the Beef Tartare, Olive You Tiao, Salt and Pepper Cuttlefish, and Mussels with Pearl Noodles.Steak Tartare: 5/5 Hands down the best dish of the night. The patty of tartare sits comes with a generous side of krispy rice crackers. You spoon the tartare topped with scallion onto the rice cracker and relish the heavenly aroma of sesame basking the melty beef. The asian pear added a subtle hint of sweetness. This was my first time having steak tartare but I'm fairly certain the chef nailed it!Olive You Tiao: 3/5The first thought I had when I bit into the you tiao was one of betrayal. Those who are familiar with you tiao recognize its iconic crispy, willowy texture that just begs to be dunked into a bowl of porridge. This doughy version reminded me more of a soft bun. The use of olives and pairing of a lap cheurng jam stood out though! The you tiao itself lacked flavor but the sweet lap cheurng jam delivered! I worked out a system for eating it after spilling some of the precious jam on the table. I ripped the you tiao in half partially, spread the jam on top of one piece, then sandwich the two pieces together. We did appreciate how this dish wasn't that expensive though.Salt and Pepper Cuttlefish: 2/5This dish was really disappointing, and even my dad, forever an optimist, remarked that the cuttlefish was soggy and lacked flavor. Having had salt and pepper squid before, I dug into my first bite with the expectation of strong garlicky, scallion flavors with crisp and crunch. The dish fell flat on both aspects. The cuttlefish was soft and chewy and the heirloom tomato jam didn't really mesh well with the salt and pepper flavors. Overall, the dish lacked flavor as well. Mussels with Pearl Noodles: 5/5We enjoyed these mussels and the unique pearl noodles, which are bouncy and chewy. The mussels were sweet and succulent. My dad thought they were perfectly cooked as well. The portion size was also decent for the price. I had really high expectations for the dishes after visiting potluck club and loving the food there. I thought some of the dishes here were very innovative with their fusion of Cantonese ingredients and American cooking styles. Service and ambiance were also spectacular but unfortunately the execution of the dishes were not to our liking.

This place is amazing. I will admit, when we first arrived I was a bit skeptical since the menu was quite limited and we were looking for a traditional Chinese restaurant in Chinatown, however, the food and service did not disappoint us one bit. The drinks were unique and very tasty and all food items were delicious. Our waitress was super friendly and helpful, providing great choices for us to try. Next time we visit NYC, we will definitely return and will also try their sister restaurant. It was a great experience and we left the restaurant very pleased and full. The salt & pepper cuttlefish was exquisite and the Duck Breast was sooo good. A must try for a different take on traditional Chinese food. If you're in the area and looking for something different that will elevate your pallet, this is the place. The decor is very modern, glad we gave this place a try.

Great space and ambiance that services some modernized Chinese cuisine that will definitely intrigued your senses! You have to get the Olive Youtiao as it's something different and great to share. I also liked the Tofu and Duck as well. Great to get a couple of dishes and split with a small group. Service is helpful to and can recommend the right portions as well.

When I heard potluck club owners opened a sister restaurant, I was dying to try it. It has the same retro feel as potluck, but Phoenix palace's menu feels slightly more elevated. We started with the youtiao and I was addicted to the lop churng jam. I could spread that stuff on anything! The duck had a nice crispy skin and cooked perfectly, and the scallop with vermicelli had a nice sear and was so sweet. I also love all their unique beers and natural wines. Service is always top notch.

I'm a big fan of Potluck Club so was very excited to try this place. Overall, I enjoyed the food at PC more, but I definitely think this place is worth checking out. The vibe is very similar to PC: trendy, fun, plays hip hop music. This would be a good place to do a group dinner before going out. However, when I went they did not have cocktails, just sake. Food: I split the below between two people:-Olive Yaotiew: I would take this over normal bread & butter every day. -Salt & Pepper Cuttlefish: pieces are pretty big. This was good, pretty standard.-Lobster Sticky Rice: I enjoyed this, but if I only ordered one larger main I would opt for the chili crab noodles because I thought it was more interesting and flavorful. -Chili Crab Noodles: this was the best thing we ordered. Portion size is quite large. Very flavorful!

Was super excited to try here, after loving Potluck Club! The concept is very similar - including the indoor layout - in that the menu offers more sharing dishes, recommended at least 1-2 dishes per person, with some beverage options as well. For a group of 4, we ordered 5 dishes:1) Chilled Tofu - nutty sauce with a hint of the shiitake mushroom; great to cool down and start the palate 2) Olive yaotiew - was super excited and curious of this one; thankfully the fried dough was not too filling and super savory 3) Salt & pepper cuttlefish - this was by far my favorite; leans more on the saltier side but the fried cuttlefish was perfectly soft and tender and the sauce was a great pairing 4) Lobster sticky fried rice - was actually pretty mild in flavor but still with large chunks of lobster, reminds me of scorched rice5) Chili crab noodles - super flavorful and umami, reminds me a bit of Buldak Carbonara, loved the texture of the noodles 6) Water spinach - mild side of veggies to balance everything out

Very unique take on modern Cantonese cuisine! The yaotiew is a must! And the salt and pepper cuttlefish! You can't really go wrong with anything on the menu. The interior design is great as well so it's a fun spot for dinner with friends.

Side note: Shoutouts in particular go to Victor; my waiter for most of the night; whom I had both a good discussion with and also gave some good recommendations.I went to this restaurant on Friday recently after work. They were pretty crowded and was going to be much more crowded later it seems and they said that I (as a solo diner) could have a table as long as they had it back by 7:00 which was fine as an hour was more than enough to try their dishes as I was planning on ordering both my appetizer and entree at the same time. I would say the restaurant is a bit less loud than their sister spot Potluck Club and I almost preferred the atmosphere here and the food I had was tasty with some faults. They have a more unique drink selection compared to most Chinese spots (outside of the cocktail places) and I went with a beer I've never had before from Korea from a brewery called Magpie called the Jeju Rice Lager for $10. Listed as a crisp beer flavored with local orange and tangerine from Jeju Island, it was tasty and it definitely had some tangerine flavor in the back and I would recommend it.I knew what I was getting as my main dish so I asked the waiter what they recommended for an appetizer outside of the cuttlefish due to a presumed allergy. He recommended either the beef tartare or alternatively the Chilled Tofu. I went with the latter and it was excellent and the best dish of the night. For $12, it came with spicy sesame, mizuna, soy pickled shiitake, and cilantro. The portion size was large with a good size piece of firm tofu on the bottom which had a nice texture. The sesame paired well with the tofu and the spicy kick reduced the nutty sweetness and my favorite part of it was actually the pickled mushrooms which added an extra bit of flavor whenever I ate one of them (I'd almost like more of them in the dish.) I would recommend this heavily for a group to split. My main dish was the Chili Crab Noodles for $35 listed as egg noodles, tomatoes, and yellow garlic chives. They recommend you mix the dish together which is definitely necessary as the garlic chives help reduce the sweetness of the sauce. The sauce itself could have used a bit more spice as it was definitely more on the sweet chili end (with the tomatoes adding to it) and I should have probably asked for chili oil as discussed later with the waiter when he asked about the dish. Outside of sweetness, there were tiny pieces of crab in it and unfortunately there was a piece of cartilage in there which has a plasticky texture. I would recommend they add some of the tomalley or alternatively the crab innards/tamale to the dish to add more crab flavor as the sweetness is overpowering or just well tone down the sweet chili flavor. Outside of the sweetness, the noodles had a wonderful chew to them as expected for egg noodles. In short, this was just alright with a bit too many faults to recommend though I like sweet chili enough that I finished it.I would have probably given this place an upper 2 or low 3 rounding to a 3 if I just ordered the noodles. However, the appetizer was excellent, the portion sizes were great for both dishes, and the service was excellent. For those reasons, this place sneaks barely into a mid 3/4 category. I prefer to a good extent their original spot but I would still check this place out. I've also heard very good things about the lobster sticky rice and would probably get that next time as my main or stick with a bunch of appetizers (perhaps the tofu along with the steak tartare and olive yaotiew/youtiao) as they both seem more creative and more flavored.
