(Overall: D) - This small pop up cafe in the heart of SoHo brings some classic rice balls from Japan. The flavor options were quite elementary -- I opted for two of the more interesting ones, eggplant miso and spicy tuna, and felt like there lacked a spotlight in Japanese cuisine by building a depth of flavor, which these two concepts did have. The rice balls also lost its texture as the seaweed is not crunchy. Supporting small businesses is a plus, but said business needs to find an edge either in pricing, vibes, or the food, none of which I felt this pop up really excelled in. I have come here at least 3 times this year. At first I was nervous because it's a "pop-up"; I thought it would disappear but it's still going strong, so yay! I almost missed it the first time trying to find it. It's a small little outdoor area, kind of like a courtyard, attached to the Soho Park beer garden. There's a couple of picnic tables which somehow I was always able to snag a spot each time I visited and wanted to have a seat.I am always on the hunt for an onigiri joint and this cute little spot doesn't disappoint. I love that it's fresh, hand-rolled, no frills, and WARM too! I've tried so many varieties (kara-age is generally my go-to) and LOVE that they offer the spam musubi, but my favorite might be their bacon and egg flavor because it's SO NEW YORK. They even have "onigiri roll" versions which I haven't tried yet because I can never pass up the traditional shape options. The only thing that would make this place better was if they served Ramune soda as a drink as well! I hope this "pop-up" remains!

We got the spicy tuna onigiri and spam musubi - super tasty! The rice is really good and warm. The spam couldve used a little salt but still really good. Super easy bite to have with a beer, and obviously super quick. Great snack in the the summer, and into the fall.I love that it's homemade - the lady was very sweet, and it adds to the experience. There are seats to sit in even if you don't get a drink from the bar!

I came on a weekday evening and they were already sold out of some onigiri. They were making more salmon onigiri though so I was able to get one of those. The person behind the counter was very friendly and the interior was very cute with seating. I got the spam musubi, karaage chicken, and the salmon. 3 onigiri was just the right amount for a meal. My favorite was definitely the spam musubi! I wish the karaage chicken had something else to make it more flavorful.

I was walking by and I stumbled upon this sushi pop up. I ordered a Chicken Norimaki sushi roll. It was delicious. The pop up looked cute and I felt like I needed to stop in and check it out. The service was great they had the sushi rolls ready to be eaten. 10/10 experience

We wanted to stop for a quick bite to eat during our soho shopping adventures and Yelp told me about this little pop up nearby. I liked it so much and it was so easy to eat on the go that I went back the next day. The salmon was probably my favorite, but the spicy tuna was pretty tasty too. My daughter's friend also enjoyed the chicken roll and my friend said the eggplant miso was also tasty (although pales in comparison to a similar type of place she visits in Hawaii). Great for lunch or even a snack if in the area!

Pretty solid spam in soho to grab and go - only complaint is that the outside location had many flies while we were eating there

This pop-up in Soho serves tasty, budget-friendly bites that hit the spot without weighing you down.Spam Musubi. The crowd favorite! Savory spam, subtly sweet tamago, and umami nori--each bite is a satisfying experience of multiple flavors.Salmon onigiri. The classic. Salmon is tender, lightly seasoned, and pairs perfectly with sushi rice and nori seaweed.Miso eggplant. For vegetarians! The tender flesh of the eggplant soaks up the savoriness from miso so well.Don't miss out on the Ume Sparkling Water, with its uniquely tangy and refreshing flavor--a perfect refresher to cleanse the palate between bites.

This popup just opened up in April and is currently opening between Tues to Sun 12-7pm with fresh handmade onigiri by a lovely Japanese lady. NYC is HURTING for homemade, casual Japanese goods where it is everywhere in LA and Onigiri Tanakaya is here to fight that and I'm so thankful. The onigiri was super fresh -- MENTAIKO NORIMAKI ROLL- my favorite, and don't really see this -too- often but the inside was soooo buttery and savory and delicious. I almost ordered another one to go on my way out but alas a boy is trying to be good with his indulgences. SPICY TUNA was enjoyable, the rice was the perfect texture. One of the few places to get handmade onigiri fresh in NYC - if you're a fan or just wanting to try it for the first time run don't walk!
