We had a table booked for 8:15pm on a Friday night and on arrival almost every table was full and there was a vibe in the air. My friends were running slightly late, so I sat at the bar for a drink while waiting. The bartender was extremely friendly and helpful, and gave some great menu suggestions ahead of the meal.Once seated the friendly service continued. We did have to order quickly due to our late seating and the kitchen closing, but I didn't mind. We shared everything below:* Caesar salad - for me was a little over dressed and could have used more than 5 croutons - but I always want more croutons so that's a personal preference. The croutons that do come with it are large and delicious.* Yellowfin Tuna Sashimi - great flavor on this and a little kick from the wasabi* Garlic Mashed Potatoes - excellent. Super creamy, not too overpowering with the garlic * Truffle Mac & Cheese - this is a heavy Mac and cheese, glad it was shared between three of us. It was delicious, but you only need a small serving.* Broccoli - it was garlic broccoli, nothing special.* Gotham Rib Steak on the bone - I was slightly underwhelmed with this, but again was personal experience my dining mates liked it.Overall, I would come back when in town. I love the old steakhouse vibe and service here and it's worth an experience.

I've been meaning to try this spot out for YEARS. As the oldest steakhouse in NY it warranted a try.Anyway, had 8:30 reservations on a Saturday night. We weren't seated until 9:10pm. Pretty busy and they do not rush or expedite your experience at all.Service once seated was great ! We had a very professional server that was quite knowledgeable bout the offerings.Loved the Chef's bread and the calamari. Everything else was okay. The lobster Mac had minimal lobster pieces and the burgers were a bit overcooked- MW instead of Med as ordered.Glad I tried it but I'm not clamoring to get back.

This is one of the oldest steak houses in nyc.I do not know if i would come back again.Steak is good, but not spectacular. Lobster mac and cheese, could be much better. Capital Grille's is way ahead.Did not expect to sit upstairs, i felt like forced to.Facilities are limited.Very small front end, not easy to recognize or at least you have to know the restaurant is there.Staff is not very knowledgeable about food or wine.Overall poor experience

This place was on my top 10 steak house bucket list and it didn't disappoint. It screams old NY which I love and appreciate. The food is delicious, the service is very attentive and no empty seats. Prepare to see some gruesome scenes at the near tables as some people enjoy their meat extremely rare otherwise, enjoy!

Unpopular opinion on this longstanding steakhouse: I hate to say it, but I'm not a fan. Many rave about it as their favorite, but for me, it falls short of the hype. I started with an Old Fashioned, which was decent but light on the alcohol. I ordered the filet mignon, but it was slightly overcooked and a bit chewy. The accompanying sauce was underwhelming. As for the crème brûlée, it lacked the rich custard texture I was hoping for. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it or return."

My dad, mom, boyfriend and I came here for dinner around 4pm. The inside is dark and elegant. Upbeat music (maybe coming from the casino?) was playing. We ordered the meatball, stuffed scallop and the crab cake for apps. All very delicious - I liked the crab cake best. Large chunks of real crab. For my entree I tried the Chilean sea bass. It was buttery, flakey and delicious. I liked the crispy onions it was paired with. We ordered a delicious side of asparagus, brussel sprouts and mushrooms. Everything was really good - we were so full! The tequila old fashion was delicious. The Chardonnay was just ok. Our waiters were very attentive and kind. Was a lovely dinner, just needed a nap after!

Came here for my birthday and made reservations. Not too large of a restaurant, but its old school classic, charming decor makes it favorable. Located in the Chelsea area, it's Old Homestead Steak House. Great service but I did feel the place felt understaffed. They do not offer complimentary bread. We had the NY strip and Ribeye. Both steaks were cooked to our liking and seasoned so well. Instead of ordering side dishes, we shared the spicy Thai fried calamari, which was sweet and savory.

After more years than I care to think (20 +), the Old Homestead has lost none of its charm or excellent skills with food - if anything, it gets better each time I visit. Special occassions or just to feel special when you are with that special friend, you cannot beat Old Homestead. There is not a bad choice on their rather extensive menu or wine list.PS - thank you Henry for taking the pictures and thank you, Donna, for joining us for a Photo Op. - Joe Albanese
