Dining at Okonomi is not just about enjoying a meal--it's a deeply immersive journey into the heart of Japanese culinary traditions. From the moment you step inside, you can feel the dedication to authenticity in every detail, from the intimate setting to the careful presentation of each dish. Their commitment to mottainai cuisine--a philosophy that emphasizes minimizing waste and utilizing every part of an ingredient--is not only environmentally responsible but also elevates the dining experience, ensuring that every component of a dish is thoughtfully prepared and bursting with flavor. The highlight of the experience is undoubtedly their signature ichiju-sansai set meal, a beautifully balanced combination of one soup, one protein, and an array of seasonal vegetable sides. Each element of the meal is carefully curated to create a symphony of flavors and textures, with fresh, locally sourced ingredients playing a starring role. The miso soup, rich and umami-packed, provides warmth and comfort, while the grilled fish is perfectly cooked, bringing out its natural sweetness and depth. The accompanying vegetable sides add vibrant color and contrast, enhancing the meal with delicate pickled flavors, earthy greens, and subtle touches of sweetness.Beyond the exquisite food, the entire experience at Okonomi is one of thoughtfulness and mindfulness. The attention to detail in both service and preparation creates an atmosphere where you can slow down and truly appreciate the artistry of Japanese cuisine. Whether you're a longtime fan of traditional Japanese food or someone looking to explore something new, Okonomi delivers an unforgettable meal that leaves you both satisfied and already anticipating your next visit.

Absolutely loved my experience at Okonomi! They have Japanese breakfast in the morning and ramen at night. It's a small 12-seat restaurant so I would recommend making a reservation. I came for lunch on Saturday for their breakfast menu and I got the larger set (there are only two options) which comes with two extra vegetables, which I thought was worth it if you are deciding between that and the standard. Today, the fish options were swordfish and mackerel - I would recommend the latter if those are your options since the swordfish was too dense for me. The vegetables were all delicious - I had what seemed like brocollini in a wasabi miso sauce, pickled radish and apples in a yuzu marinade, a squash with some soy/sesame paste, and egg tart-like side, and miso soup. Would recommend getting the onsen egg addition to add to your rice as well. The food was delicious, the staff was super nice, and the space was so intimate and cute. My favorite Japanese breakfast I've had in the city :)

Quiet intimate setting. It's a quality neighborhood spot for Japanese breakfast, and definitely worth a visit if you happen to be in the area. The place is very small, so I highly recommend planning ahead and grabbing a reservation, as walk-in accommodation will be difficult due to the small space.

Fantastic spot. I first learned about Okonomi when walking around the neighborhood and stopping inside to ask about the place. You must get a reservation well in advance, as the restaurant only seats a few tables at a time!! The menu changes but some items remain the same throughout the year. The tunakotsu was a first for me, as I have never had fish-based ramen. The texture of the tuna was almost identical to chasu pork, and I was also impressed with the flavor of the broth. I will definitely be back, as the experience at Okonomi was incredibly comforting.

One of my girlfriends wanted to try this place out so I suggested we go during one of the holiday weekends.Oof, Okonomi is worth that hard resy to make. Though breakfast was so basic, it was SO good. Okonomi focuses on enhancing the natural flavors of the fish & veggies being served - a true homage to Japanese cooking. With that being said, everything was delicious without all the additives. Needless to say, my friend & I finished every last bite.It might be a bad thing that Okonomi isn't too far - I will for sure be back for more!

Found this place on social media and needed to give it a try! I was attracted to the clean and fresh look of the dishes. This craving came suddenly so I just walked in without a reservation, and was seated with 15 minutes! I think I got lucky coming in on a Wednesday afternoon during lunch time haha. Off the menu, I got the "Standard Set" with a white fish soaked in sake (they also have a miso fish and salmon). Then I got the add on of the egg you can mix into the rice, which was amazing! I recommend getting the egg add-on. Such a great experience!

Food: I heard about this place randomly while searching for Japanese breakfast options. We were able to grab the last reservation on a Saturday morning. This 12 seat restaurant reminded us of Japan. One of the best plates of food I've had since coming to Brooklyn

LOVED my experience at Okonomi!! I made a reservation around a week and a half in advance and was super excited for the Japanese breakfast. The restaurant is very intimate and cozy. There are four bar-style seats in front of the open kitchen and two additional tables for four. Our meals were perfect, and the presentation was also superb. They were sold out of the fish collar option (our reservation was at 1:30pm), so if you're hoping to try that, you would need to snag an earlier reservation. I'm not normally a tea person, but the hojicha they provide was so fragrant and wonderful with the meal. The fish of the day was a miso-glazed swordfish-- it was AMAZING!! The fish was very buttery, yet didn't feel overly heavy. We had pickled radish, cucumber, and a tamagoyaki for our sides. The tamagoyaki was PERFECT. It was so smooth and custardy. We had the onsen egg and ikura add-ons as well, and they paired perfectly with the rice. One qualm I had was that the rice was a bit soggy, but it was still enjoyable. The miso soup was great as well! I felt like the three-side set (Sansai) was the perfect light breakfast.Service was also a 10/10. It was fun to watch the chefs in action, and the hostess/waitress was very nice! Exceeded my expectations with the intimacy of the dining experience, service, and overall food quality.

Solid spot. Definitely would come here again. Small spot with limited seating I recommend making a reservation. Had a prefixed menu with traditional japanese breakfast. They don't have ramen anymore since the new year but Very satisfied with the quality of everything and portions. Typical williamsburg pricing about $35 per person and solo dining friendly

Best breakfast I've ever had in my life. Get all the add-ons!!! You will not regret it. I've wanted to come here since forever and my friend got us a reservation one morning. They had 3 fishes of the day for us to choose from, and we chose salmon belly. IT WAS COOKED PERFECTLY. The onsen egg with ikura was delicious too. I ate all the rice with them (and I usually don't eat that much rice)! THE BEST.
