I've been here a few times now, and I can guarantee that this is the perfect spot for a simple, hearty meal. They also take reservations, which aren't difficult to get. The interior is small, cozy, and brightly lit with a bar-style seating, giving a relaxed yet intimate vibe--great for a laid-back meal with a date, friend, or alone. The menu is straightforward, offering just two dishes: kimchi mandoo and dweji gomtang. Fyi, both are pork-based. The kimchi mandoo was tasty, but the star of the show has to be the gomtang. The gomtang is a lightly, perfectly seasoned pork broth with rice and tender pork slices. You can top off each spoonful of the meat with gochuji, a mildly spicy chili paste that melts effortlessly in your mouth to complement all the flavors of the dish. The portion is reasonable, but you can add extra pork for an additional $8. Overall, I highly recommend this place. Delicious food, friendly staff, and quick service. And, if you're looking for a round 2, the speakeasy George Bang Bang is hidden right behind the restaurant.

A restaurant with a single item on the menu is rarely ever bad, and Okdongsik is no exception. The gomtang is warm and homely, perfect for a cold night or a morning hangover. The flavor is light and clean, with lots of delicious meat. It's a bit one note, but essentially nothing overcomplicated.I ordered the gomtang with extra meat, and while not visible in the picture, there's a mountain of meat hidden in that bowl. Great value, with more than enough food to leave you satisfied. The service is good- seating is snug with a single counter, and you can see the chefs busily working behind it. A casual, busy atmosphere with a little bit of excitement added by the speakeasy hidden in the back of the restaurant.

I think i would say a 3.5 star, but yelp does not have this option.a casual homemade lunch spot in K-Town, after my Korean co-worker raved about it. Famous for their soup over rice, I was excited to give it a try!The restaurant has a cozy vibe with only bar seating, which adds to the casual atmosphere. We decided to try both the cold soup and the regular soup style. The waiter was super helpful, providing clear instructions on how to enjoy the dishes. While I found the food to be okay, it was slightly lacking in flavor compared to other Korean spots in the area. It definitely felt healthier, which is a plus if you're looking for a lighter meal. My co-worker, however, rated it pretty good, so it seems to be a hit among those who appreciate traditional Korean flavors.Overall, if you're looking for a healthier lunch option in K-Town and don't mind a more subtle taste, this place is worth a visit!

Amazing. The soup was excellent, and the dumplings were among the very best in the city.

One of the best meals I had in 2024, actually in my life. The Gomtang was insane. Such a clear and clean broth with so much depth, they could tell me they cooked this broth for 2 weeks and I wouldn't question it at all. I'm not a huge meat person but I did devour the pork in my soup. Every bite was insane, I added a little bit of the fermented pepper paste into each spoonful to make the perfect bite. The kimchi mandu are a MUST order, the filling is so flavorful and substantial. Wrapping is very thin, best kimchi dumping in nyc! All seating is counter service so it is busy and service is fast. I really enjoy counter seating, I love to see everything being made and with such a small menu, you really get to see everything.

I totally agree with other Yelpers that "comfort" is what comes to mind at Okdongsik!! There is only 2 things on the menu so you don't even need to pick. My favorite part was actually their fermented red pepper paste cause it complemented the pork really well! Loved how the soup was very hot but it didn't have that much flavor besides the black pepper. Wish there were more green onions. I think it was also a little too much rice for me but my partner enjoyed his meal thoroughly! The kimchi mandu featured a thin and chewy dumpling that encased a spicy, well-seasoned tofu/pork filling. The store itself is minimalistic and only has bar seating. Hooks under the seat and on the walls are available for your jackets. Overall I enjoyed the meal but for the feeling of comfort, I would have preferred to eat this type of food in the comfort of my home?

Just an all around perfect experience. I enjoyed the cozy yet polished atmosphere. The pork soup was delicately seasoned, and I definitely felt full at the end. The kimchi mandoo was pretty good. Most people around me ordered 1-2 orders of it, but I may actually pass on it the next time since the soup was already quite filling for me. The radish kimchi was also pretty yummy and the staff were so kind about replenishing. One of the other diners ordered a couple jars to-go. The jeju tangerine ade was very refreshing and not overly sweet. I'd love to try the green plum ade next time. The staff had such great teamwork and provided warm, efficient service.

Deliciously packed Mandus and really hearty gomtang. There is a decent amount of meat in there too which was tasty with the spicy sauce. The place only seats about 10 people so the vibe is very warm and intimate. You are seated around the the chefs so you get to see their craftsmanship. Would be a good comfort place if it wasn't so hard to get a spot.

I'm not really sure I understand the hype behind the restaurant but definitely make sure you get a reservation beforehand. I can appreciate a limited menu and they offer two items- Dweji Gomtang and Mandu. The service and ambiance is quick and counter-based so if you are expecting to sit here long and chat then this might not the place for you. I liked the speed at which menu items came out but I found the food itself to be kind of underwhelming. The Gomtang felt like it lacked complexity in flavor and then also the kimchi mandu just tasted ok to me. The rice was super filling and I had trouble finishing my meal as it just felt too carb-heavy to me without any variance. Overall, it wasn't terrible, I just didn't find it to be fantastic.

Okdongsik is amazing!!! They specialize in two things, gomtang and kimchi Mandu which is what we got. They also serve kimchi and their kimchi is nice and fresh. I love that they have a specialized menu because you can really taste the quality in these two dishes. The gomtang is light and fresh but you can also taste the depth of flavor. The kimchi mandu is huge and great to share as an appetizer to start. The ambience of this restaurant is great as well! I like how intimate it is but a reservation is definitely needed because of this. The service is good because the chefs are preparing your dishes right in front of you so you can request whatever you need. They also seem to have a speakeasy in the back which I passed by while going to the bathroom! I hope to check that place out next. Overall, okdongsik is a 10/10!
