This place is a hidden (?) gem. It's been around for four yrs or so apparently. The place is quite big with a nice long bar. They pretty much do all and every Japanese izakaya food from sashimi to oden to katsus. And surprisingly they do them all very well. The sake list is very limited and at least 200% marked up. Like a 200 bucks bottle retails for around 65 to 70. Their premium sake list boast your average bottles like Dassai 23 or the Blue version. The Blue is cheaper by the way and used to retail at like 30 bucks when it came out a couple of years back. Now apparently they decided to mark it up significantly (probably because they were losing out on the Dassai 23 market with people just opting to buy the Blue). The service is Kyoto chic. If you know you know. Most servers speak Japanese and seem to have a polite front but not a warm welcoming vibe.

Great restaurant with a very nice ambiance. The service was wonderful. We got there slightly before 5pm for dinner service. We made a reservation ahead of time and reserved the carving tuna bones. I was a bit worried since at the time of my reservation they said the tuna may not be available. The staffs were super polite and the chef was patient with me in explaining the food he was preparing. It was nice to have that kind of interaction. You can tell he took pride in the meals he prepared for us. Food wise - Tuna was fresh for $28 and it was fun carving it. Sashimi platter was nice too and the umi tasted some sweet and creamy. We also got the grilled squid and that was tended that came with a very sauce (it almost tasted like shrimp head - turn out it was the internal parts of the squid) equally delicious if you are into that type of flavoring - which I enjoyed. Then we had the udon with a creamy sauce (they were nice to split that into two bowl for us) - I really like this..the pink foam was great..did not know what it was but the experience and texture was amazing to me. Last we had the pork katsu sandwich- pork was thick and soft - sweet and crispy. Out of all the dishes this was probably one I would not get again because I wanted something different. We then ended the night with the match pena cotta and crem brûlée. Overall wonderful dinner and will come back to try the hotpot intestine.

The food is authentic. I wouldn't say anything was wowing, but things were well prepared and classy. Service is good,.though it could be a bit more relaxed. Definitely make a reservation, as we walked in when they opened but they were definitely on us about leaving on time (even gave us a last call for food)

Amazing izakaya in nyc with great sake choices and authentic Japanese food! We ordered quite a few dishes because the portion sizes were small.- Hot pot with intestines: 9/10 (great creamy broth and good intestines)- Fried oyster: 10/10 (sooo good. The oyster was crispy on the outside and soft in the inside.) - Rice in cold broth: 10/10 (this was my favorite dish. The sauce was perfectly salty and the sashimi was good.)- Salmon sashimi: 7/10 (decent but the portion size is small)- Daikon and beef oden: 10/10 (solid oden with good broth)Vibes were casual and service was good. I'll definitely be back when I'm craving good sake and Japanese food!

Greetings from California! I was recommended here through Instagram and was not disappointed. My partner and I ordered the mentai udon and the blue fin tuna rib. Starting with the mentai udon, the sauce was so creamy and the noodles were perfectly chewy. The udon was a 10/10 and savored every bite. The bluefin tuna rib was an unique experience. I had never experienced such and it was delicious. It was fresh, had a rich ruby red color and easy to spoon off the bone. Even eating the raw fish itself didn't have too "fishy" aftertaste but the soy sauce addition provided a perfect saltiness. In regards to allergies, the employees were very accommodating and understood cross-contamination of ingredients. They provided sufficient warnings of shrimp cross contamination which was really considerate of them. Now reservations-wise, my partner and I were not particularly aware of such until we had read the reviews. Thank goodness we read the reviews as the website and yelp page were not super informative on whether it is walk-in or reservations-based. We called 1-2hrs ahead and were lucky to get a 45min slot.

It's an intimate izakaya vibe with long bar seating and one or two tables in the back. Loved all the food I got here - the tuna rib, pork katsu sandwich and mentaiko udon. Pro tip - make sure you request the tuna rib when you make the reservation because when we asked about it, they made sure to check. The tuna rib was interesting to eat with us scraping the meat off the ribs and definitely an experience. You can also ask them to crack it open (extra cost). The katsu sando was surprisingly crispy and moist and flavorful - my fave item from the whole meal! I would love to come back and try the rest of their menu!

Delicious sashimi. Highly recommend the red snapper.Ambiance is traditional japanese -- bar style or tables. Service is standoffish & snobby but professional & efficient. Excellent choice for Japanese in midtown east.

Okatte Tanto serves up some of the best izakaya in NYC. I came to try their bluefin tuna sashimi that you can scrape right off the bone. Okatte Tanto is a Japanese izakaya in Midtown; this place is truly a hidden gem. The tuna rib is so fresh and it's only $28 for the medium and $32 for the large; don't forget ask them to crack open the spine after you're done for that marrow. They serve a limited quantity of these per day so I recommend coming early or calling in advance. They have an extensive of izakaya foods that are all incredible, I tried the intestine hot pot and it was so fresh, tender and delicious, full of veggies and hearty bone broth. This spot absolutely needs to be on your NY bucket list
