My fiancé and I came here to celebrate our birthdays and we had the tasting menu at the Odo lounge. We also chose to add the A5 wagyu steak with uni and this dish was the highlight of our meal. The steak was so tender and packed with flavor. The uni complemented the wagyu and made the dish even more savory and buttery. If you choose to add on a dish, let it be this one! The meal was filling and every dish tasted great and not too heavy. The lounge area is a bit dark but felt more relaxed and had comfortable seating. They also brought out some sweets for our birthday with candles which was really nice!

Food: 5Decor: 4Service: 4Came here for lunch. Overall, a great meal and would definitely come visit again. 2 Michelin stars in 2023. The entire Kaiseki was delicious and consisted of Soba Noodle, Chutoro, Ikura, Charcoal Grilled Duck, Lotus Root Tofu, Shima Aji, Chawanmushi, Anago, Tan Tan Noodle, Sea urchin, and some others. My favorite was probably the uni opening dish and the noodle with Wagyu rice set. Abridged Lunch Kaiseki is $145 per guest. Service was very good although they forgot about a wasabi preference and quickly corrected.

Came into here for a dinner reservation for a party of 2. Service felt very professional, less leaning on the friendly side, for better or for worse. Food-wise, I left the establishment feeling very underwhelmed for the price point (265/pp+tax+tips) and considering the fact that it has 2 Michelin stars (at the time of writing this review). While each and every dish tasted and seemed very carefully thought out with flavors and combinations, nothing particularly stood out to me, which is very disappointing for the caliber of restaurant this should actually be. Came in very excited, but left very disappointed.

SO and I visited Odo last week to celebrate her birthday and were pleased with the results. The eclectic tasting menu comprised of sashimi, soup, soba, grilled and fried items. They offer a nice selection of sparkling wines and sakes...we enjoyed the Dassai Blue. The establishment was clean and the service was prompt and professional. A bit pricey, but definitely a nice spot for a special occasion.

A delicious 2 star Michelin experience with a wonderful dark, rich atmosphere and pairings of great flavors. Everything tasted organic with earthy tones. If you're a fan of Japanese food (cooked), you will love Odo

Food was not fresh made. Only put on the plates in front of the guests. We do not pay $150 per to eat left over food. Still hungry leaving the place.

I recently came here for a double birthday dinner celebration for my wife and our friend, and we were all excited to experience this 2-star Michelin restaurant.Finding the restaurant was a bit tricky, as there was no signage outside except for their sister restaurant, whose hostess kindly pointed us in the right direction next door. Once inside, we waited in a small, intimate bar for the host to greet and seat us. Later, I learned that the restaurant is designed as a speakeasy, which adds a charming, hidden element to the overall experience. It's also a kaiseki, a form of authentic Japanese fine dining, which I was eager to try for the first time.We were seated in the chef's counter where we saw the chefs create the dishes in front of us which was an awesome experience. We started with a mocktail (for an additional charge), which paired wonderfully with the seven-course meal. Most of the dishes were beautifully crafted, although I enjoyed some more than others. The menu leaned heavily on seafood and vegetables, which I appreciated, though there was one standout dish featuring duck (the only non-seafood course). It provided a nice change of pace from the otherwise similar flavors that dominated the evening.Despite noting in our reservation that we were celebrating two milestone birthdays, there was no acknowledgment from the staff, which was a little disappointing. While not essential, a small gesture would have made the experience more memorable, especially since it was one of the celebrants' first time at a Michelin-starred restaurant.Overall, some dishes were exceptional and made with high-quality ingredients, while others felt a bit too "homey" and didn't quite justify the price tag. This was my first experience with kaiseki, and while it was a great introduction, I'm eager to explore other kaiseki fine dining options to further expand my understanding of this unique culinary style.

TLDR: Favorite Kaiseki but easily top 5 fine dining in NYC, period. If you're looking for that special splurge meal and you like Japanese cuisine - you've found the right one.Odo has went straight to the top of my splurge list. Chef Hiroki Odo puts together a kaiseki menu that will wow you, regardless of how many fancy meals you've had.I've been twice now but both times were insane, the last one I might have liked even better. What I love is that even though both visits were not too far apart, there was really no overlap in the meal. Kaiseki focuses on the seasonality of ingredients and that means the menu changes with what the chef decides to showcaseOur first visit was a crab-centric meal which was part of multiple dishes. Grilled crab, crab with the innards, an insane tonkatsu, wagyu shabu shabu and crab claypot rice. Our second visit was not as crab-forward but it was equally enjoyable. My takeaways from that evening were the spiny lobster fritter, soba with dried anchovies/caviar and the smoked trout rice pot. One thing I love about kaiseki is if you're still hungry - you can always refill on the rice. No more tastings without enough food! This is one of those places where I am itching to visit again. Everything is top notch from the food, beverage program, service, etc. Even if they were not the holder of two Michelin stars - I'd still come here. Odo, is excellence.

My favorite kaiseki in NYC! Instantly transported to Japan whenever I'm here. Chef Odo and Bryan are the best and always make me feel so welcome. I come here regularly and have an amazing time each time. Highly recommend this spot for a special occasion, date night, family meals -- anything where you want to impress. The odo lounge and gallery are also amazing and worth a visit.Amazing seasonal ingredients from Japan and food is always so fresh, tasty, and memorable. This is actually the #1 kaiseki GEM in NYC -- reminds me of amazing meals I've had in Japan. Consistent delicious food you definitely should come!

I arrived a bit early for my reservation and as such had a seat at the bar that hides Odo at its back. The bartender was excellent and so were her drinks. A great start to the night and I hadn't even reached the chef's counter.Odo's dining area is an intimate contemporary space that pays homage to traditional Japanese design. The counter seats 10 and has an open view into the kitchen where you can see Chef Odo and his staff work. The menu rotates quite frequently, and dishes are executed at the highest level. Each delicious and with enough variation to keep things interesting as he takes you through the Kaiseki. Portions are well managed so that you leave pleasantly full. The dishware used for service is very unique and beautiful which further enhances the experience. The only warning I have, is that those more versed in Asian flavors/cuisine may find some dishes, while delicious, lacking the wow factor you may expect from this type of dining experience as certain menu offerings take inspiration from traditional homestyle dishes. On top of the food alone, there is an exquisite selection of rare sake, whisky, and wine to choose from. They also offer flight pairings for a beginner friendly tasting experience. Feel free to ask Bryan, the maître d', questions as he is very knowledgeable on all aspects of the menu. On to the counter service. This was the only element I left feeling a bit disappointed about. There was a single maître d' who was stretched quite thin which negatively impacted the pacing of service. Additionally, he seemed to display favoritism for certain guests--not something you want to see at a shared counter in a starred restaurant.Fortunately, Chef Odo's exemplary cooking was able to save this visit to a 5-star experience for us. I would certainly give Odo another chance and I definitely recommend others give it shot if they are able to snag a reservation. This is one of the best Kaiseki experiences you'll find in NYC for a relatively tame price.*Quick tip: Odo can be a bit challenging to find the first time. Look for The Gallery and you'll find the entrance at the back of the bar just to the right.
