I'm not sure how I've never reviewed Marlow & Sons, as its been my longest-standing go-to cafe in South Williamsburg. Operated by the same owners as next-door Diner and She Wolf Bakery, Marlow & Sons transforms into a cocktail bar in the evening, but during the day serves eclectic sandwiches and pastries. My favorite option is the Spanish tortilla, which is generally hard to find in NYC, filled with chunks of potato that melt in your mouth and paired with a light mayo.

Marlow & Sons has quickly become one my go to spot in the neighborhood for coffee/pastries/quick lunch. You can tell all of the ingredients are super fresh which makes a big difference. My personal faves are their sandwiches - most are either served on focaccia or a fresh baguette - the scuttlebutt is seriously one of the best takes of an egg salad sandwich that I've ever had. Prices are definitely fair given portions too. 10/10

I'm starting out with four stars, but if I tried it a couple more times, it might rate five. I'm working with limited info. This is essentially a sandwich and coffee shop. It's the other half of the Marlow business, called Marlow & Daughters, which is essentially a butcher and bread shop.Based on the sign that says sandwich arrive around 11, sometimes 12, I assume the sandwiches are made at the other shop and walked the few hundred feet to the next shop. They don't appear to be warmed or prepped after delivery, which was a bit of a bummer. That being said, I had the Scuttlebutt, which consists of eggs, pickles, olives, capers, herbs, feta, and pimento mayo. I am not an olive fan, but could not taste them and didn't see them. So either they weren't there or I didn't notice. The sandwich was quite good. Ingredients fresh, flavors were great. Bread was crunchy. I had debated the ham and cheese, but the fact it was a cold sandwich and not toasted on side made me go for the Scuttlebutt. The staff was helpful and gave me their recommendations. The outdoor seating area is super nice with plenty of space to enjoy the outdoors. Low key.

What a chill little bar this is. The ambience is low key and they have lights dimmed it is in the back of a coffee shop. I am rarely in Brooklyn I came here for a fundraiser event last weekend. You can order food in the front I got a ham and Swiss sandwich which was a decent size and pretty good. Our bartenders we had were fantastic very accommodating and nice. The drink they made us for the event was a spritzer which was very refreshing and tasty too. I would come back here and check out other cocktails they make.

just walked by Infront of this coffee shop. We saw a man was eating outside food. (+ coffee from here) when I was there with my friends, we were told not to eat sandwiches from outside and leave. (Of course we spent $30 total.) Then a blond woman (straight hair till the shoulder) told us to leave with angry face and nasty attitudes. We saw her at the front cashier/barista area without hut - this is a violation!) it made us very angry walking by Infront of this store. we now know that she's choosey Who's coming in and let them eat. what is call? D......n!

There was nothing redeeming about my breakfast. Putting aside the very bitter cold brew, the food was equal parts gross and confusing. Brekkie sando = stale, burned English muffin holding in overcooked eggs, tasteless cheese and dollar bill thin ham. Wife refused to eat her white fish toast after forcing down two painful bites. And then there was a third sando...we didn't order it. Somehow we were charged for it but decided to try it rather than send it back. Beets, capers, olives, onions and pickled (?) peppers on soggy focaccia....for breakfast! The above and two waters = $53. Value! Skip this clown show

A darling spot in South Williamsburg that somehow I'd never heard of. Marlow & Sons is part grocer, part bar, part restaurant, and I'm here for all of it.So, the location is a little difficult to get to if you don't live in the area. It's about a 1/2 mile walk from the closest subway stop (Marcy Ave), which is not too pleasant if you visit on a hot summer day like we did. There is also not too much going on in this area, so there is little to see on the way. But on a day with nice weather, I still think it's worth the trek.We had a reservation for dinner on a Wednesday night. It was surprisingly empty when we arrived, with only a couple tables occupied and a handful of patrons at the bar, but I appreciated the personalized attention and the relaxing ambiance. I tried a couple of their cocktails, which were delicious and unique. For food, we had the oysters ($18/6), smashed cucumbers ($9), peas & string beans ($16), brick chicken ($33), and grilled bluefish ($28). Everything was really, really tasty, but what really took me by surprise was the peas & string beans, which was so, so flavorful. I also really loved the broccolini in the brick chicken dish. Full disclosure: Marlow & Sons is not cheap, despite its appearance that suggest a cozy neighborhood joint. Dinner and drinks for two ran us $160 before tip. The food here is of very high caliber, which partly justifies the price tag, but just be aware that a meal here will likely cost you a pretty penny.

it takes a real sociopath to (1) put mayo on a sandwich that has ricotta cheese on it, (2) not note the mayo on the little sign with all of the ingredients on that sandwich, and (3) include mayo on the list of ingredients on the sandwich next to it.the hot cross buns sucked too! tasted like cleaning fluid.
