We heard of Mari.ne Handroll through an Instagram reel and decided to visit when we found ourselves in the area. The inside of the location is minimalist & clean and our server was kind, making sure were were happy with the food and answering all of our questions. We ordered the Shrimp Tempura to start followed by the 5 Handroll Set and Mushroom, Yuba, Curry Kabocha, and Crab handrolls. Complimentary hot barley tea was also provided which was delicious and warming on this cold day.The Shrimp Tempura surprised us. The shrimp was lightly battered and expertly seasoned. The shrimp was so flavorful that the Wasabi Aioili isn't necessarily needed, but is a welcome addition. Similar to the Shrimp Tempura, the handrolls were so flavorful on their own. Four sauces are available for customers to use, but I didn't reach for them. Handrolls have a lovely textural component to them, with chefs serving one at a time, waiting until you've completed the prior handroll to ensure each is fresh and doesn't go soggy. The standard side of pickled sushi ginger included daikon radish and celery, which were appreciated additions I haven't seen elsewhere. For me, this is a definite revisit.

# Overall:Mari Ne handroll is an interesting experience. There's some handrolls that didn't land for me, but I'd still be interested in coming back to try other rolls.# AmbianceThe space inside Mari Ne Handroll is what I would describe as compact. All the seats are countertop, so you do end up sitting close by to other people. You can see the chef prepare the handroll in front of you before they place it next to the pickled ginger. # Food and DrinkFatty Tuna HandrollThis handroll was a solid handroll to start off with, no strong fishy taste.Shrimp HandrollThis handroll disappointed me. I didn't expect the shrimp handroll to be cooked shrimp or the handroll to have guac inside. The concept just didn't land with meScallop HandrollOn an older menu, there was a handroll set with a scallop handroll. However when I looked at the menu, that set no longer existed, so I simply had to choose my own handrolls. This roll was definitely the best handroll I had from Mari Ne.Crab HandrollThis handroll was the original reason I wanted to make a custom set of handrolls because it wasn't part of any sets that I saw on any menus. It was a good handroll too, same tier as the fatty tuna handroll.

I enjoyed the high quality hand rolls and unique experience.I tried the 5 Handroll Set and was impressed by each one. My favorite was the fatty tuna, but all of them had fish that was very fresh. The Janchi Guksu is a great way to end the meal, and it was perfect for a cold day. It's nice for one person or to share with two. It's fun to sit at the counter and watch the chefs make your hand rolls one by one, and it feels very cozy since seats are limited. I definitely recommend a try!

When I think about the meals I've had this year and dining at Mari.ne is one of them. It's a hand roll counter situation (15 seats total). Reservations are a must. It's not far from Bryant Park so easy to get to using public transportation. The fatty tuna still lives rent free in my mind. The confit spicy tuna... mind blowing. The soju cocktails were strong and so delicious (we didn't even realize they had booze until a few sips). The fish broth soup!! I could eat it everyday honestly. I was so full towards the end of the meal because we got the max amount of rolls in the hand roll set. I would suggest going with the 4 rolls if you plan on getting soup and appetizers. I already have plans to go back here it's such a chill vibe and I always love watching my hand rolls being made in front of me. This is definitely a place to check out if you like sushi.

Hidden gem in midtown for Korean-Japanese fusion handrolls! An offshoot from Mari, so you know it's good. Small spot, so might be rough getting a seat, but totally worth it. The fish is super fresh and delicious. Don't forget to use the side sauces they're all so good and compliment the rolls very well.

Solid. Dropped by on a Friday at 1pm with reservations to meet a friend and it was packed. The seating format is intimate, about a dozen seats at a sushi bar. White walls with brass hardware and glints of marine turquoise in the menu backing, pale green tinted glass lights. Natural earthen shades of serving ware. Reservations surely recommended during peak times. The menu is simple, order drinks, apps, hand rolls. I went with 3 hand rolls--salmon $6, scallop $6.50 and spicy tuna confit $6.50. I enjoyed them all--the nori was crisp and light, the seafood was fresh and each flavor profile distinct. As other reviewers have mentioned they lean toward marinated/sauce driven seafood filling rather than purely seafood forward rolls. I thought they did a good job balancing the flavors so the sauces didn't totally drown out the flavor of the fish. And the seafood to rice ratio was generous for the size of the roll. The salmon was diced and marinated in what tasted like a shoyu/soy sauce base, the scallops with mayo, the spicy tuna with spicy mayo and a bit of Japanese pickle for crunch. I love me some raw scallops and was glad these were tender and sweet, no sand. The spice level of the spicy tuna was pretty PG. My friend had eaten here before and recommended the Janchi Guksu $9.50 - a bowl of thin rice noodles in a fish broth with yuba (tofu skin), seaweed, chopped green onions, a side of kimchi and spicy sauce--as an add-on so we split this. It was light and simple, presented beautifully. By 2:15pm the restaurant had mostly cleared out. I appreciated that the staff was friendly and attentive by checking in occasionally though never rushed us. If there's one thing to add maybe that the price point is higher than your average casual lunch spot though within the general range of NYC sushi prices. Overall a positive experience and would consider coming again if I was in the area.

I ordered take out so I can't speak to the service or interior, but I will say the packaging is very cute. The packaging also keeps the seaweed fresh and crisp as there's a panel separating it and the fish. The rolls themselves were just ok. Nothing wow'd me or stood out. The fatty tuna roll was good, but the rest were just alright. I will need to come back and see if it was just an off day.

Loved sitting at the bar at MariNe Handroll with Holly K before attending & Juliet nearby... Sometimes you just want high quality food but not a long sit down meal and this place offers just that!Service was friendly and fast and I loved watching the sushi chefs prepare our handrolls. We both went with the five hand roll set and I enjoyed each and every one. I love salmon roe, so I ordered an extra handroll with that and loved that one too! They also offer vegetarian handrolls, as well as a limited variety of appetizers, and they have a variety of sauces at the counter for you to choose from. I liked them all but would recommend they offer guidance on which to use with each menu offering. All in all, I love this concept and would love for them to open one closer to my home in Phoenix. If you're in the area and seeking a quick, delicious meal before a show on Broadway, you will not be disappointed with MariNe.

Such a neat concept! We were looking for dinner before heading over to a show and MariNe was perfect. It worked out so well since it's fast and delicious. You don't have to worry about the food taking forever to arrive or getting held up with the kitchen. We went early and since it feels like no one eats early in NYC it was probably even faster. The five hand roll set definitely feels like the way to go here. I didn't love the scallop one, but that's more just a personal preference. It's hard to pick a favorite, but I might have to go with the fatty tuna, the spicy tuna was great with the crunch as well. I liked the variety of sauces they have at the counter for you to choose from. Service was friendly and its neat to watch the chef make your hand roll. A great option before a show if you are headed to Broadway.
